      That could be a long list. :) A tc electronic 1210 would be cool (though I do actually prefer the 2290 for chorusing). A Lexicon PCM-style reverb unit would be awesome (with processor power these days, they could probably do all the algorithms from the 41 to the 960 in one pedal). A Yamaha SPX unit would also be cool. How about the MXR Model 126 Flanger Doubler? The Scholz Rockman rack units as pedals would also be cool too. Okay, I'll stop now. :)

    Deep modulation was also available in the original 2290. There was a RAM option and a fast trigger option available. One of these added the deep modulation option with an EPROM Firmware update.

    Great sounding delay and has a lot of versatility. A little too much menu paralysis for your average guitar player. I like simpler stuff with knobs. I'm using the flashback X4. It has a 2290 with modulation on it which gives me the vibe of this pedal but it doesn't get close to all the versatility. But I can get most of the metal and rock delay tones that I need Plus I pair it with a UA Astra. At some point I'll get the Starlight. My drummer works at UA. Great video as always You're playing as phenomenal. Very good demo It's obvious you've had the original and you worked this new one flawlessly. Your video on this is the best one out there I have seen a couple. Thanks again and have a great weekend 🔥🤘

    In case you ever wonder if your demo videos have any influence on people when they are shopping for gear, let me assure you that they do. I did buy this pedal based mostly on what I heard in this video, and just purchased my second one. The sounds are as you would say...GLORIOUS! (That includes the SCF in front of these for the width).

    • @harleyhexxe9806
      @harleyhexxe9806 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeonTodd Why not? I figure I'll run the SCF for the stereo wide, then the 2290s in series after that. The first 2290 will give me all the chorus and flange effects, then go into the second one for the delays and panning. This will work with my MP-1s.
      With my MP-1 Classics and MP-2s, I'll remove the SCF since these both have stereo effects loops, and set the chorus in both for wide, with no rate and adjust the depth. In theory, it should sound killer!

    The DSP engineer Asger Lundsgaard Hansen and the rest of the tc electronic product development team knocked this one out of the park for us! If you're reading this and work for tc electronic, and helped to develop this pedal, congratulations on the remarkable work.
    Fabulous sounding pedal demo Leon. This is my personal favorite video of yours yet, except for perhaps the ones of you and Troy sharing secrets and truths from down under!
    The pure clean comparison at the end is where the main differences can be marked. The rack unit is brighter with a sharper/harsher attack. The spaciousness and dimension of the pedal is remarkably close to the rack unit and in some ways, the smoother response and expanded filter possibilities of the pedal add versatility. If one were trying to sound exactly like The Edge, I do believe they would need the rack unit to get the exact percussive attack. I personally prefer the pedal now because of how it integrates with my other pedals on a board setup and with the stereo input, I can use it in ways that I could never use the rack unit. It's got a super wide stereo image which can be really great bonus at the end of a stereo pedal chain.
    I'm putting in a request for a video where you compare the 2290 P to the Strymon DIG, Fractal 2290 modeling, Eventide H90 Vintage Digital Delay, Boss SDE-3000D, in addition to any other digital delays of repute you may have lingering in the wings.

    I never owned a 2290, but I did play through them in a studio several times. This pedal makes me want to get one and try it out in my W/D/W rig.
    I think an interesting comparison would be to put this pedal against the Roland SDE3000EVH pedal and see how they compare in terms of tone, performance and ease of use.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They both did a pretty bang on job of recreating the workflow of the originals. The BOSS expands on the original by turning it into a true dual delay, which I wouldn't have minded with this. 2290 Chorus and delay from the one unit would have been awesome!

    • @MrSpike7590
      @MrSpike7590 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have both and the SDE EVH pedal is an amazing dual delay platform where the 2290p is a single delay with more panning and modulation options. The other differences are the SDE EVH has more Routing Options and the Noise Suppression Circuit. I love both formats for obvious reasons and would hate to have to choose between them as only having one delay which is why I have 4 delays on my board. The others are a Strymon Timeline and a Free the Tone Future Factory that Uncle Leon mentioned in this Vid!!

    • @harleyhexxe9806
      @harleyhexxe9806 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeonTodd Thanks Leon! That's very helpful. The TC 2290 had the most pristine sounds as I remember it from the studio sessions I did with it. I never used the chorus in it as I recall because they also had the TC 1210 when I wanted to put some chorus on my guitar. That was another fantastic rack processor for chorus and flange back then.
      I do agree though, it would have been awesome to have dual delays in this one pedal.

    • @harleyhexxe9806
      @harleyhexxe9806 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrSpike7590 Thank you for the feedback! Personally, I wouldn't have any use for four delays in my rigs, but a dual delay for stereo effects would be ideal for me. As I mentioned to Leon, the 2290 had the most pristine effect on the original sound of any delay I've ever used, because all the others, including the Roland delays, did color the sound to some degree. Playing a stereo rig has been a lot of fun for me for several decades now, but I'm really liking the center channel with no effects at all these days. It just sounds better to my ears now overall. So, it comes down to this; Boss SDE, or two 2290 pedals? Hmmm.

    Rack / pedal is a bit night n day on the clean. I think the dirt tones hide it a bit, but there is some more dynamics on the top, some sparkle in the rack. I would be curious to see if a dynamic eq on the high mids set to expander might get you 99% of the way there. Spiff or FabQ3. Otherwise, a pedal 2290 is worth 4 on the floor . Was signal chain straight insert or gtr -> pedal > axe fx?

    The pedal is very close but the rack is still the king imho. The resolution and articulation of the rack seem a bit better in the test at the end. There is a bit of magic in those old 2290 units which is why they still command so much money.

    Great demo as always. From your clips at the end, the rack does seem to still impart a little more dimension to the sound, but there are definite similarities to be sure - perhaps it was the vintage crustiness. ;) I may have misunderstood a couple of things, so please correct me if I am wrong: You mentioned that the rack could not do deep modulation. It can. Not as obviously or as easily, however. You have to enable it via spec no 103. Of course, your comment could still be correct in that the pedal still might be "deeper". The other comment that I may have misunderstood was regarding tap tempo. The Learn button on the rack is effectively a tap tempo, albeit not on a pedal (although tc electronic did have the 0144 foot controller for the 2290 which did offer learn buttons). Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed your demo and review.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah yep you're right about the "deep" mod mode being one of the many "secret features" of the 2290. Time for me to re-read the manual! Regarding tap tempo, I should have clarified that there's a dedicated set of rhythmic subdvisions.

    Some incorrect info here. The DEEP MODULATION is an original feature of the rack unit. Fron OS V28.xx TC implemented a deeper modulation ratio as requested by many users; the original ratio was very gentle and didn't allow for the type of modulation guitarists were going for in the '80s. And no... modern technology is not really making the modulation depth better or more advanced. It's actually the opposite. Old delays used sample rate modulation so an ANALOG oscillator (LFO) would change the microvoltage of the converters to shift the sample rate. That was causing the detuning efx. Some delays can get extremely wild at that, namely the Lexicon PCM42. You can't do this with current algorithmic tech... so modulation doesn't sound as deep as back then.

      @@jupjuck And it's better be like that! For a new product claiming to be the same as one of the most important and unique delays ever made. Analog technology in early digital audio is not a minor detail. It's actually the main reason why those wonders have that kind of sound you can't get from current tech.
