This is the perfect drill for anyone e who has lost their swing. This got my game back in the high 80’s. Everytime I went to the range I did exactly this only going half way to the top and letting my hips bring the power. Now I’m uncoiling hitting my 7 iron 160 yds. Thanks Paul again
Hi Paul, It never cease to amaze me how often I run into a hurdle or get stuck in my swing mechanics and you post a video that is exactly what I need to move forward. I am now using your body swing warm-up (1/2 backswing w/7 Iron - engage lower body - lose wrist - no arms) to start each of my practice sessions including before I hit the course. Thanks for all you have done for my golf game. Keep those tips coming - Joe in Seattle.
Funny, this does happen every now and again with people. Same thing happened with this lady the other day. Sounds like you are on track. I like what I'm hearing so please keep doing it. Really loosen up and you will be amazed at the results.
Hey Paul. We have conversed over the years and you have helped me get better. I just could not “get it” until I found my swing. Once I starting swinging back and forth with very low tension and let the club find Its own arc I then became aware of what the swing should feel like. I think this feel is essential to getting the powerless arms you suggest. Once I got the swing, turning off my arms was much easier and the body positions became a natural extension of my swing. My body reacted to the swing and improvement became much easier. In my case the position information wes not
I literally just had the same revelation. Last week I figured out how to loosen up my netrual grip, arms and wrist. This week I learned how to snap the club at the bottom. And literally yesterday I learned how to actual use hips to create power. It seems so simple now but I struggled with the using hips for power for years!
Ive watched 100's of hours of videos, read several books and spoken to many people about the swing and it wasnt until i found your series that i finally had the "AHA" moment. Thank you for making golf more enjoyable. Im not a bot or paid commenter just a hacker who appreciates the videos
For years I've been adamant with the notion that we all could play so much better with a 3/4 back swing. I play my best when I forget about distance and suddenly I'm in balance and I'm hitting the best shots of my life. I had several segments like this in my round this past weekend and hit some of the finest iron shots I can recall, with a shorter back swing. It's getting there, Paul. TY!
The shorter swing gets the body moving for sure. The problem is so many people hit with arms so for them to shorten it up is tricky because as I said in the tip it takes the power out of the arms. If you want to start shortening it I'm fine with that.
Hi Paul. This tutorial has transformed my golf and has been a lightbulb moment because it works, simple as that. I also realised on the range how many golfer were only arms, that used to be me, not any more, thanks very much.
Another great video, Paul. The Body Swing really does work. I have only been playing for a few months and can say that your techniques have changed my game greatly and all for the better. Thanks, Paul.
Hi Paul, thx for the great tips and tricks, after 1.5 years after starting I finally played my best round/game ever !! 45 points , 95 strokes ... hope to beat 90 really soon
Glad you see it. The hips are the key. That shorter swing forces you to use them though because when you have a short swing you lose the amount of time and strength to pull the club down to hit the ball. Just be careful not to get too short.
I went out today and hit the best irons and hybrids I’ve ever hit. I hit some good woods also, but the irons were right on. It’s coming and I’m anxious to get back out there. Thanks Paul.
Played my best round. Took awhile to get use to your concept. Also, I don’t get hit with severe tennis elbow anymore. Thank you for the free content. I watched your stuff since 2012. The coil and uncoil concept along with zero arms is still timeless to today’s game of golf.
Nice one. Starting to get it. Glad you are still following me. No pain in the arms is great. You've turned them off which is perfect. Keep at it. You are on track. Watch this: th-cam.com/video/cNhIyhi136E/w-d-xo.html

Thank you Paul, a fantastic basic lesson all high handicaper's and especially beginners should always start their practice session with. After a 24 year lay off due to illness playing off 16 after 3 yrs. Now at 62 I have returned, played 18 holes shot 100 on par 70 course and felt like the tin man from the wizard of oz and needed a chiropractor and I'm a reasonably fit gardener but nothing can compare too the bio constructional mechanics of the human golf swing as it doesn't happen in any part of your life so back to the drawing board . That was 7 weeks ago and luckily I found your golf channel at the same time and as a believer of the big easy arching swing I have improved immensely and I dont feel like I've been in a car accident afterwards, I'd also like to thank you for reinventing my hand grip positioning which is now more neutral and works, goes straight like an arrow ( a lot of the time anyway 😏 ). your club head awareness posititioning directly behind the ball at address advice was brilliant although this may sound stupid but most high handicappers just address the ball pull back and fire without knowing their flight path but the obvious loft angle at address prior to strike tells and reminds us which flight path the ball will be going with arms straight and correct stance and that along with concentration and your other tips has improved my game so much I shot that same course 90 this week gone, the thought process and muscle memory is coming back driven on by my enthusiasm of your lessons. When I was a child in the 60's my grandfather used to practice his golf swing in the garden using a yard brush which gave such a huge arching swing it looked as thought he was trying to throw the broom over the wall, you used to see this training technique back in the day in magazines but funny how it's never taught these days. By the way I'm using the amazing 2006 callaway big bertha Irons and all warbird woods, these suit a easy slow swing because of the weight as you know, they way a ton but amazingly balanced, defo a trolley job. Thanks again and good luck for the future Paul, to think its Christmas in a few weeks 👍and as a gardener would say ... Ho Ho Ho. Sorry.
Glad you are back playing golf and getting it. I have taught many people in your situation who took a break and are getting back into it. Anyone in this situation will hit with their arms when they get back into golf. This is due to human nature. I talk about it in this tip: th-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/w-d-xo.html Sounds like you understand the concept of not hitting with the arms and using your body. You have done this in the past so it's not too hard to get it back.
An additional benefit of the drill is learning the feel of hitting from the inside, which is also a more powerful way to swing. As a long time OTT victim, it helped me learn to turn off my arms and deliver the club with more compression.
Thank you Paul. I watched your video yesterday before heading out to play 9 holes. My game this year so far has been sad to say the least. After watching your video I was hitting the ball so much better, with power I didn't know I had; Thanks again and I've already shared the video with 2 others.
So glad you found me and are seeing improvement. It's not fun when you are struggling. Just keep it super simple into the future. The legs and hips are the power source not the arms. They are just hinging and rehinging (loose). Thanks for the promo to others. I need all the help I can get spreading the word and getting people to play better golf.
Went to the range today to try this, the first dozen balls were terrible but I stayed with it and then it clicked and I got the feeling of turning off the arms and just concentrated on just using the legs and hips. Holy shit I was amazed!! Thank you so much Paul!!!
Very good. Soo glad you stuck with. A lot of people will try something 3 times and if they don't get an amazing shot they quit. Now you see the power of the legs and hips please keep doing it. This will take your game to a whole new level.

Been working on your Body swing this last few days. Really works when you are not over doing it with your arms. So smooth. Lots of work to do. Been hitting off the mats with bare feet for ground forces purposes. Always good stuff Paul.
So glad you are working on it. Be sure to do daily practice swings too. Bare feet not so good cause you can do the touch the legs position. Be careful.
Thanks so much. Just see it differently then you will be able to play great golf forever. Legs and hips are the power source. You are on your way. Please keep at it by doing daily practice swings. No ball.
Paul - I did this on the driving range yesterday before going out to play - half swings with my 7 iron - using the lower body and found that I was hitting the ball as far as a full swing! Why? I was hitting the center of the club face more and there was less side spin on the ball as it went straight or had a baby draw - I then took this swing thought of a little shorter swing out on the golf course and hit some of the purest shots I’ve hit in awhile - and I did not sacrifice distance and in some cases hit the ball farther with each club with less dispersion- great lesson!
Exactly. You are starting to get the body moving which allows all sorts of great stuff to happen. Please keep at it. Just don't get too short and quick.
Hi Paul, Many Thanks for your very helpful tuition films. I am sure I have been guilty of mainly arms only swinging for years. I am sure that particularly now in my 70th year that including hips and legs (which to me feels counter intuitive) is going to help me greatly on direction and length. I wondered if you could give me greater insight as to why static legs hips with little or no weight transfer is usually so destructive and unhelpful. Thank You. Roger, East Sussex. England. UK.
Glad you are getting it. You just have to start seeing results. If so, you will keep doing it. The problem with hitting is: the harder you hit, the tighter your wrists, the slower the club swings, you end up doing a chicken wing narrowing the arc, casting, sending it over the top and manipulating the clubface. Your body is an axis. The club is mass. If you are hitting with arms you are moving the mass before the axis and in physics that is never going to work. This will give you the visual: th-cam.com/video/KlffJzbskmM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/gJOq_LO6oRg/w-d-xo.html
They are connected to your body. Fire the hips and your arms aren't going to stay up there forever. They will follow. I know some tesch move the arms and body will follow. Isn't everyone already wracking at it with their arms? So why is their body not moving? Kids don't do that. They have minimal arm strength. With minimal arm strength you can't pull the club down so you use your body. Turn the arms off. Loose wrists. Power it withe legs and hips.
Great lessons great teacher, great videos, great easy golf swing I will change my swing accordingly to this videos. I have a question: The speed you move your hips will affect the distance you will make with the club ?...or the distance is a combination of things...hips, club head lag, wrists . Am I going to see soon the results of my hips moving correctly, or it will take sometime? Thanks
Thanks so much. I appreciate the support. Glad you are going to work on it. Think of it in 2 pieces. You have the arm unit. This is the arms, hands and wrists. The wrists are the hinge. It's hinges and re-hinges. A hinge in life is loose so you need loose wrists. This arm unit is attached to your body which is coiling and uncoiling. Coil and set the hinge. Then instead of hitting you uncoil the lower body. This allows the arms to follow. You get the power through how fast you can uncoil and how loose the hinge is. So if you only fire the lower hard/quick you will hit pushes. You need to couple the lower with the release of the club. Watch this one to understand the timing of it: th-cam.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/w-d-xo.html
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks, the swing you teach is the swing of pro. I know low handicap players, and they hit 25O 27O , with TOTALLY no effort, wish I had know your teaching lesson before.
For sure. I prefer shorter versus longer. Most people who do too long a swing pull it back down with their arms so it gets them hitting. Seniors are another story. I like them longer and loose as a short backswing is going to be tough for them to get any power because they typically don't fire the lower very fast. If you feel you can fire the lower half decently then you will be okay with a shorter backswing.
@Paul What's wrong with a "super short backswing?" If you are rotating, using your body and are able to strike the ball consistently, isn't a "super short backswing" (maybe 2/3) going to be more repeatable (and easier on the body) in the long run?
You can use a short backswing if you want. It's just most people cannot generate the power. Think Jon Rahm. See how big he is? So how hard he moves at it? Can the average person do that. Nope. I demonstrate a short backswing and literally in 2 balls my body is hurting. I go up a little longer and I can swing easy and get the power. So up to you what you want to do. Give it a try. If you feel it works and you don't have to swing out of your shoes then keep doing it.
I don't have this on here as I don't give everything away. I do it give away if you sign up for my free samples here: www.paulwilsongolf.com/freesamples It might not be the first lesson I send out but be patient and you will get it in a day or two.
Hi Paul. I have had TBS package for awhile now (6 years). I have really worked hard to practice without a ball every day. I do have some physical limitations due to flexibility. To get my belt buckle past the target my left foot is moving. I fear I am losing torque due to this. I have noticed am improvement at the range already by doing my best to touch the knee and touch the head. Any pointers on left foot would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It's okay for the left foot to move as you turn. You like it planted as you hit the ball of course then if it twists open more that's fine. Mine does that. If you are having trouble you need to feel the weight on this foot but not leaning left at the top otherwise you will send it over the top. Watch this one: th-cam.com/video/98O9NiasUNM/w-d-xo.html
Great tips paul. I have followed you for years now, lm 71 and when it goes wrong, normally me trying to play like im 31, i go back to what you have said so often and guess what? Im coming of the course with more points then the 31 year olds
Thanks for the continued support. I appreciate it. Keep in mind the main reason you will lose it is hitting too hard. So as soon as you do immediate go down to swinging at 50%. This will get the arms out then increase the body for more power. Watch: th-cam.com/video/cNhIyhi136E/w-d-xo.html
I feel the ground and have been using the ground since I was 15 years old. I still remember the day. 50 yard gain instantly. th-cam.com/video/ZiIbTW14Was/w-d-xo.html I don't do this so much anymore as I have had right hip pain for about 8 years. It's getting better now but worried it may come back if I fire too hard. I teach 8 downswing triggers. You need to find what works for you. Also do this: th-cam.com/video/7z5eUcSwlSk/w-d-xo.html I have tons of other leg and hips drills on the channel.
Hi Paul, Just trying this in my back garden with an air ball and a wedge and sometimes hitting a bit behind the ball.. Any hints on why or how to avoid this? Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧🙂
Glad you are doing swings at home. Daily practice swings is the best way to work on it. Here you go: th-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/hAZyQXoIGac/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the tip, Paul. I am 61 and picked up golf about 1 1/2 years ago, my driver goes 180, 200 at the best. Like everyone else, I try to hit with my arms. Using your lower body is the key, it's in my head. It's not easy. 😔
Well you need to keep that thought and get good at it. Master this first: th-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/w-d-xo.html That will get you to stop hitting with the arms. Once you can do that you need to start firing your legs and hips to get power as they are the power source. Also, do daily practice swings at home. Once a week is never going to get you there. I have tons of hip drills on the channel now. Watch some of them and start doing them daily so you get good at using your legs and hips.
Where? Going back or through? If going back, turn out your right foot a little more to allow it to turn back better/easier. For the through swing you really need to roll onto the tip of the back toe. Too many people are flat footed as the swing through putting pressure on this hip. Here is a tip I did on it: th-cam.com/video/ibkTQCoxUaA/w-d-xo.html If you still can't get through it then maybe you have to play a push or push fade. The lack or rotation is going to get the ball starting right. So you would be aiming left to keep it in play. The wrist need to be super loose. This is the shot Freddy Couples played and worked out well for him. Sometimes physical issues need to adjust the movement to accommodate what the person is capable of doing. I'm fine with that because really the loose wrists are the key. Watch this and see if this would hurt your hip: th-cam.com/video/O9jr3G1FF6M/w-d-xo.html
You can certainly keep doing it. If you are not hitting it all that far then I would suggest lengthening it. There are many ways to get you to turn more.
You can watch all the bunnies on TH-cam for golf instructions. It’s all gobilly goop. This and that and all confusion. This guy, however, makes freaking sense. Just watch him, look how easy he explains everything! Just listen, watch and ur game improves!
Well thanks. Since lesson 1 I always thought "fast and easy." It has to be easy and you need to see results fast. This was over 31 years ago so I kind of have a head start on most others.
@@paulwilsongolf Paul, on downswing, when should I be releasing my wrists? I am flexing going back but maybe releasing too early cause I continue to hit irons behind ball and not getting a divot.

NICE !!
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Thank You.

Glad you are getting it. You just have to start seeing results. If so, you will keep doing it.
The problem with hitting is:
the harder you hit, the tighter your wrists, the slower the club swings, you end up doing a chicken wing narrowing the arc, casting, sending it over the top and manipulating the clubface.
Your body is an axis. The club is mass. If you are hitting with arms you are moving the mass before the axis and in physics that is never going to work. This will give you the visual:

Ok gonna try this
This is tricky but great to get the hips firing.
Hi Paul others teach use arms and shoulders how do you use the transfer weight with the hip turn kindly advise thanks for your help Jack
Watch this one to understand the timing of it:

@@paulwilsongolf Thanks, the swing you teach is the swing of pro. I know low handicap players, and they hit 25O 27O , with TOTALLY no effort, wish I had know your teaching lesson before.
Would I be able to use the shorten backswing swing on course if I get enough distance with it? It seems to help me stay more consistent.
@@paulwilsongolfThanks! Would you be able to make a video demonstrating this drill with driver?
Probably not. Not sure anyone will watch it. Just do short backswings with driver. Not sure what else to add.
Please post your ‘touch knees’ drill video. Thanks
I don't have this on here as I don't give everything away. I do it give away if you sign up for my free samples here:

It might not be the first lesson I send out but be patient and you will get it in a day or two.
Actually in the meantime work on this:

Watch this one:
th-cam.com/video/98O9NiasUNM/w-d-xo.html
great video !
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Paul, great video. Am I right in thinking you start downswing by lifting your right foot and then fire your hips?? Thanks
I am firing the hips which is pulling the right foot off the ground. I am not trying to lift it.
@@paulwilsongolf thank you Paul
Great teacher teaching people how to hit an object that is just sitting there while they’re staggering all over it .
Thanks. You would think it would be easy but as you know it's not.
Watch:

Paul
Are you using ground pressure with your hip turn
Barry
I feel the ground and have been using the ground since I was 15 years old. I still remember the day. 50 yard gain instantly. th-cam.com/video/ZiIbTW14Was/w-d-xo.html
I don't do this so much anymore as I have had right hip pain for about 8 years. It's getting better now but worried it may come back if I fire too hard. I teach 8 downswing triggers. You need to find what works for you. Also do this:
th-cam.com/video/7z5eUcSwlSk/w-d-xo.html
I have tons of other leg and hips drills on the channel.
Hi Paul,
Just trying this in my back garden with an air ball and a wedge and sometimes hitting a bit behind the ball.. Any hints on why or how to avoid this?
Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧🙂
Glad you are doing swings at home. Daily practice swings is the best way to work on it. Here you go:

Thank you so much for the reply.. Will be trying this in the morning
Master this first:
th-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/w-d-xo.html
That will get you to stop hitting with the arms. Once you can do that you need to start firing your legs and hips to get power as they are the power source. Also, do daily practice swings at home. Once a week is never going to get you there. I have tons of hip drills on the channel now. Watch some of them and start doing them daily so you get good at using your legs and hips.
Any swing tips if you've got a right hip problem and restricted movement in that area?
Where? Going back or through? If going back, turn out your right foot a little more to allow it to turn back better/easier. For the through swing you really need to roll onto the tip of the back toe. Too many people are flat footed as the swing through putting pressure on this hip. Here is a tip I did on it:
th-cam.com/video/ibkTQCoxUaA/w-d-xo.html
If you still can't get through it then maybe you have to play a push or push fade. Watch this and see if this would hurt your hip:

Thanks, Paul.
Your tips are very helpful! I will keep you posted how I do.
@@paulwilsongolf thats brilliant really appreciate the reply. Will give this a go 👍
I think the hip turn is the most important part of the swing
That is a huge piece for sure. One of the main differences between pros and ams.
i can only do a super short back swing . im not flexible at all !
I am just letting my wrist be super loose. In no way am I trying to release them. You should watch this:

try showing this movement slower and how to do it if your new at this I'm a 11 handicap and all arms too much work
Not sure what a slow mo video of my doing this drill is going to show. It's a drill. Just do short super short swings. If so, you will feel your legs and hips start powering the swing. If you want to see my swing in slow mo watch my last 2 tips.

Your video for seniors to swing long in the back swing. With this video you contradict your teaching by swinging the club shorter. I'm confused.
It's a drill and not everyone is a senior. Try it. Get the hips moving then lengthen it.
