    I am so happy to have found your channel!!!! I seriously just today was thinking of dropping out of my program. I have had a lot of struggles come my way during schooling. I do so much better with a teacher verses just myself and a book. I have always excelled academically but never knew I needed that interaction with a teacher. Please please please don't stop what your doing. Your literally saving me!

    Hello I have been in the healthcare field for almost 9 years now. I am currently a Supervisor in Patient Access which consists mainly of Registering/Scheduling/Insurance Verification of the patient's appointment. I have always been interested in Medical Coding and would like to pursue a career in it. I was struggling about how to begin and now I know you and your courses are heaven scent. I just would like to say "Thank you" from the bottom of my heart. I have no doubt after looking at the first videos that I can do this!!!! Thank you again!!!!!

This is helping me write me notes as I am studying for my CCA and need to do my notes over because they were lost with my flash drive. Plus I must say that it is nice seeing another AA female in this industry which is something I have yet to see.

    Hello Coach! I had my first class on Monday. I am wondering what I have gotten myself into, but I have faith that, as you say, we will get through this together. I started at the beginning of your video's and have set a goal to do at least one or two a day. I'm also taking the online Dean Vaughn medical terminology course. I really want to get this but so far the coding piece sounds Greek to me, but I'm determined. I was exited to hear some of the things that you mentioned were discussed in class, so I felt ahead of the game. Thank you for all that you are doing!

    Hi, could you please tell me what is the difference between ICD-10-CM books, for example the draft set and the code set

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The draft set came out before ICD-10-CM officially came into play. We had the draft set 2 year prior to Oct. 1, 2015 as a guide to the ICD-10-CM codes. We did not know up to September 30, 2015 if the conversion was going to really happen but if it did, we had the "Draft" set available. Since Oct. 1, 2015, ICD-10-CM is now "Official".

    Hi Coach, I noticed some online training programs use electronic versions of these instead of physical books. Are the electronic versions harder to navigate?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Would you believe they are identical to the book? I like to make notes in my hard copy book and I am old school. However, the electronic versions are great too. I just couldn't ask students to purchase those and then keep it updated every year. If you have access, by all means, use it. In some versions you can even put your personal notes at the code.

    My current classes list Optum360 for their books (which are $125 a piece for 2016), but I have found that there is a sale on the AMA website for about $70 a piece for the 2016 ones. I am aware that AMA has teamed up with Optum in some respect (some online coding thing), but they still sell their books separately. I wanted to know if there was a difference in the information presented with each publisher?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. There is no difference in the classification system, however the books may be different in that one may have more pictures and additional definitions at the point of the code to assist with coding. However, the classification, ICD-10-CM will be the same. Also, whether the book is spiral bound or hard cover, etc. plays a role in different company book pricing.

    Since coding involves alphanumeric proficiency on the keyboard, my question is, how are keyboarding drills set up? Are you taught to type alphanumerically using the majority of the keyboard, or are you taught to use the number pad for numeric data entry?

    • @codemastercoach6636

      Interesting question because I don't know of a coding program that has typing included. I think we assume the student can already use either the numeric pad or alphabets.

    Good morning, I'm in the middle of buying used books from ebay and found some cheap ones, I wanted to know if I can get them books each being from different years or do they all need to be from the same year? I'm only going to use them here to learn from you. I'm barely at the beginning and so I just want to dig in and see if it's really right for me before I fully invest. 😊

    • @codemastercoach6636

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ICD-9 is totally different from ICD-10. ICD-9 can go up to 5 digits and ICD-10 can go up to 7 digits with alpha characters. So, I recommend getting the ICD-10 book. As for the edition of CPT, we have several new codes and several deletions since, so you will probably have difficulty with that book too. Sorry.

    What books should you use for medical billing and coding if you want to get your certificate and or national license?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ultimately, the ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS. But, the CPC does not require ICD-10-PCS because you code for physicians (CPT) and not the facility, which is what ICD-10-PCS does.

    As a beginner in my coding journey.. what books should I start with? CPT, ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS? Or HCPCS.
    Should I purchase the HCPCS later?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend the ICD-10-CM book. You cannot generate a CPT code without an ICD-10-CM code. For procedures, it will depend on where you code. So, if you code in a hospital you will use the ICD-10-PCS code for the procedures and for the outpatient setting (ER, Physicians office, SDS, etc.) you would use the CPT code. Not all coders use HCPCS codes. So, that is why I recommend starting with the ICD-10-CM code.

    I am planning to take the CPC test . which year of books should I purchase to take with me during the test?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are testing this year, you must bring the current year book. (2017)

      Yes you can but try to stay within the last year if possible. Codes change annually.

    Thanks so much for your videos, they've been really helpful. Please, I'm preparing to take the AHIMA CCS exam soon. However, I am a little confused on what books to buy. I hope to work in an outpatient setting for a short while then transition to inpatient. Which (set of books) do you suggest I buy:
    1. ICD-10 CM and ICD-10 PCS
    2. ICD-10 CM and CPT
    3. ICD-10 PCS and CPT
    Also, do you think I need the HCPCS book? Thanks a lot as I await your reply

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      VictorBanks Dika, you will need all three of these books.

    • @onyedikaumeanaeto6202

      CodeMaster Coach thanks for the prompt reply. How about the HCPCS book? Do I need it too? Also, do you think its better being certified as both a coder and biler?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      VictorBanks Dika, I don't know much about billing certification, so I can't answer that. As for the HCPCS book, because you are planning to sit for the CCS exam, you won't need it for the exam but you will need to understand what HCPCS coding is.

    Hello...I also find your videos very helpful. As a medical graduate I am interested in medical coding too. Currently I am in India but chances are there that I'll shift to UK in near future. In that case will this knowledge on medical coding would help me getting any job there? Please guide me.

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. They use ICD-10 there as well. Actually medical coding is a national career. The only difference is that the US finally moved to ICD-10 last year and other countries were already using ICD-10. But, we have finally caught up. An additional advantage is that coders work from home so even if you are in the UK or India, you can work for the US from home online.

      Hi,
      Do you do any online medical coding course for getting AAPC certificate so that I can start my new career?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you build a notebook based on what I am now covering in my videos, you are taking coding classes. I am in the process of building a medical terminology class and will be teaching all courses required very soon. Otherwise, I recommend checking out your local college to see what online courses they offer in medical coding. They vary so much that its hard to recommend one over the other.

    I love your channel! It's such a great review for me. I'm so excited about these practices however, I'm in the process of locating ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS level I & II books so I can follow along with these worksheets without searching for the codes online. If you know anyone with books to spare please pass their info. onto me. I'd be happy to leave my email, etc for help. Again, thanks.
