Great story time! Fellow coder here, CPC & CRC I took a course with the CODE master coach for my CPC. She was the person who made me realize I didn't know my guidelines. I can still hear her voice in my head, LOL
If anyone is interested, I'd recommend AMCI coding institute. They break down their guidelines, unlike anyone else on this planet! No BS! You will pass on the 1st attempt. I passed on my first attempt😊
    Happy Coding!

I became certified (CPC-A) in 2018 but never found a coding job. I work for a hospital now doing pre-certifications and really want to try again to find a coding position. The problem is I pretty much remember nothing from my certification course & feel like I need to self study just to get familiar again. Would you recommend the AMCI course for my situation? I’m not sure how to get myself where I need to be in order to find a beginner coding job. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! 🙏🏻

AND YES. Take the AMCI course they'll whip you in shape real quick. I LOVE THAT GROUP OF WOMEN AND YOU WILL TOO. HCC and Risk Adjustment Jobs is where I got my start. They definitely seek CPC-A they love entry level coders. Alright I'm done LOL

@iamshe3275, who is the CODE master coach? Can you share their info. Are they online? I am interested in getting my cpc certification, but I'm not sure if it's for me. I was thinking of starting with a billing cert instead, where theres more openings i def dont like billing. I've worked in it before. I want a semi cpc course to test it out before committing lots of money for the actual course. How long was your course?

I am looking to obtain the CRC at this time and the YT videos don't necessarily mention CRC cert, so I'm not really sure what I should be studying. Do you have any insight on that @iamshe3275?

I work as an outpatient coder for the hospital in my community. I have been coding for 25 years. I went thru a certificate program at a community College to get started. My advice to those looking to get into coding is to know your anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology. In most hospital settings you will be coding utilizing the 3M encoder - which is a computer program. It has all of your coding references for review. Learn coding guidelines! Coding is evolving with electronic medical records and now AI. So the more you can familiarize and learn all of these basics the better off you will be. At the end if the day, it's all about accuracy and productvity.

I took a certificate program for medical coding and billing a long time ago. For the final exam you had to take the test to get certified which I did and passed. Upon passing I thought I was certified but come to find out, the school lied and it wasn't true. Frustrated, I did not schedule the test to get certified because I didnt want to sit through that test again (which I should have). I went on to get my BA in Health Administration but I always wish I would have got my certification. I'm now currently working in technology as a Product Owner and Business Analyst but part of me question if I should go back to get certified in medical coding and billing because I'm an introvert and love doing work where I don't have to speak to many ppl. Thanks for making this video, it's inspiring!

I am right now doing self paced medical coding using some online resources. I enjoy reading the reports and trying to match the codes as accurately as possible. It is challenging but with the resources im finding (Alison for the certification, Bucks and AMCI for the instruction. I have a background in teaching so learning how to learn this isnt a challenge when you know what to do. What is a challenge is figuring out how I will get a job in the medical records or billings department. I worked as a CNA in the 2010s for a yar or two but I was raised by a nurse so I am familiar with medical terms, anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology terms, Need to brush up alot on that! The way compliance is set up now, I would not recommend taking courses or classes on your own unless you have absolutely nothing else going on in life or you have an awesome support system. Knowing the guidelines, modifiers and add on codes is must. This is not an easy field of study and it is accompanied by many grey area's in which an auditor will try to mow you down with what they consider perfection according to their own sense of perfection/ specifity pertaining to ICD 10 codes. Make sure you understand medical terminology, pathophysiology, and the meaning of medical necessity.

They were listening to whatever.they.wanted. Coming from call center jobs it looked like HEAVEN to me. I’m doing a refresher after being out medical coding for years. I notice a lot of these comments of people having a hard time finding jobs. I had that issue. many employers I talked to said to get my nursing degree and I’d be more marketable as an employee since nurses know procedures, anatomy, patho, etc.
I got my BSN. I want to do coding so I don’t have to wear out my body and sanity picking up extra bedside shifts.

@@charlotterichie7815 hey hey! Books I recommend:
▪️AAPC CPC Study Guide (if you can find more study guides that’s great to check those out too!)
▪️Optum 2024 Coding Desk Reference for Procedures Manual
      ▪️2024 CPT Manual by AMA
▪️2025 ICD-10-CM Expert for Physicians Manual by Decision Health
      ▪️2024 or 2025 HCPCS Manual
The reason I say 2025 for ICD-10 is because the yearly renewal for ICD-10 codes is 10/1. Since we’re close to that date you’ll have the newest updated copy.
For CPT the yearly renewal is January 1st so you’ll be able to use the 2024 for the rest of this year and next year if you plan to take the exam next year.
HCPCS manual it doesn’t matter what year 2024 or 2025 because you’ll only be asked like 3-5 questions on the exam with this book.
