I was able to repair my steering wheel controls using this same process. Soldering surface mount components is difficult - I also broke on of the board traces, but was able to use a normal radial lead capacitor in place of the surface mount and get it all working again. Yes, crazy how a simple resistor can cause so many problems.
We’re did you get the new steering wheel. I like it better than the last one which was still nice.
