i made my first beats using a Casio Synth & a Roland MSQ 100 (way back), went to the MPC 2000 XL, then the MPC 2500... that workflow with first the Zip Drive, and then the little disk with no memory capacity almost made me call it a wrap.. i got tired of GEAR always needing to be upgraded (killing the wallet) & started effin' with Fruity around version 7... it was murder on your computer's CPU, and back then before it became FL and the workflow got upgraded... it slowed me down too.. i did Fruity until around version 11, when i started hearing about Native Instruments.. did my due dill... & bought somebodies Mikro (off Craigslist - still got it in the closet) .. .& it blew my mind. It has everything, Sampling, Mixing.. Effects.. Expansion Packs with the DOPEST SOUND capability, Sounds that come already layered.. SOUNDS THAT BOUNCE.. NI's Sounds KILL AKAI's Crap, & Maschine allows you to incorporate 3-party EVERTHING effortlessly, which is a headache on the the MPC Live (i had a "Live" too, for a minute, get to that in a moment).. On Maschine, for the first time.. i was able to lay down vocals on my songs with no problem. One of my main problems with FL was that it was cool for making beats, but trying to freak vocals with it (back when i was using it) was a no can do... With Maschine its so easy to do anything you want.. & then they also have that app that i would bang out beats sitting on the toilet, and then upload it to my laptop and import it into its bigger cousin.. i would do tracks forever with no worry of how long i wanted to do thangs. Save sh!t on my computer.. & keep going.. HAH. Never looked back.. Last year i got curious about the MPC Live because it was supposed to be the Stand Alone King (ITS A LIE).. Sold it.. Apologized to my Maschine Mk3.. We reconciled... Hugged it out.. & i'm a lifer. It has issues.. NI keeps changing thangs that you love & you have to adapt.. but that's with everything. Now the workflow in Maschine is even mo' better, regarding how you can create your songs, and arrange them effortlessly.. Maschine is what I was born to use..
Banging out beats sitting on the toilet..I feel u lol..Maschine's workflow is pretty dope if your accustom to it..I konw cats that know Maschine like the back of their hand.
@@DyReckProductions Yeah man, i get a lot of inspiration on the toilet hahaha... But Maschine, it really was the MPC Killer... i know i went through 3 or 4 different MPCs before i funk'd with Maschine..

@Dyreck Production bro this was a great video. I always wanted to try the Maschine but to me it look hard to understand and being a mpc lover I thought at the time hip hop beats wasn't supposed to be made on a computer. These are some super dope insightful video
Thanks bro..yeah alot of folks was skeptical about machine at the time..Its a good thing u didn't try it u probably would never went back to an MPC lol..but akai stepped up there game since.
I'd like to see one of these videos for when a classic DAW came out. What was it like when Ableton Live or FL Studio (Fruity Loops) came out back in the day?
When I first started off making beats 5 years ago I was on the Maschine heavily. But once I used an MPC I couldn't go back to the Maschine anymore lmaoo.
Started with the mpc 500, then went to the Maschine MK1. Been rockin the the MK2 since 2013. As I type this, I've got the Maschine+ on the way. I love mpc, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Love the vids, man. Super dope.
I use maschine and love it. Just brought komplete ultimate and had to buy an extra drive for all the sounds. Also a 61 key komplete keyboard. The workflow is so Damm easy you can lay down an idea so fast. You got the software hardware combination it was sweet. I have a standalone but I still hook up the machine plus to the computer software
Love these videos so much!!!! I'm getting my first maschine mk3 this week Im so excited to make my best music with it. Keep it up! Hey can you possibly do a video about the SP-404sx and producers like dibia$e? Peace!
I’m really liking this series of vidz you got going on. After watching this one, I was over here like “man, what other OG samplers is out there that he hasn’t spoke about yet?” The only two I can think of at the moment is the SP1200 and the ASR10
@@shapeshifter404 and man I had a 50] back in the day. I like maschine and Akai so I had to roll with the MPC X and the maschine +. This equipment is awesome ! I sample from serato at times!
I had the maschine MK2 (because i'd used the MPC2000XL), I couldn't figure it out (because it also needed the computer---though here i am in 2021 mostly using Ableton & Launchpad X), and I wasn't heavy into making beats; I gave it away. I wish I had it again now I'm heavy back into beatmaking
I've been a Maschine user for about 8 years. Bought the Touch about 2 years ago & the MPC One when it released & I'm tempted to sell everyday. Maschine software is better to me & the workflow is unparalleled. MPC One is nice, but unless you plan to completely switch over IF you enjoy it's workflow, I wouldn't do it
Exactly same here. Few weeks ago I got my MPC live 2 and it's fantastic unit. There is no problems whit my MK3 but i wanna try Akai too. MPC Live 2 + MK3 + SP404A, i need all of them now and in the future 😎
I am maschine user but I'm still want newer MPC standalone unit because of its fat pad, mobility and MPC logo. In reality, maschine plus has far more better sound library in standalone mode but MPC pads still make me crazy for finger drumming on it.
Totally agree, I thought I'd replace Maschine mikro mk2 + PC with Standalone MPC One but after a week I had to return it, its just so uncomfortable to use compared to the maschine.
I came so close to getting into the maschine, but I got scared off because I didn't know anyone that was using it. Nowadays, it seems that everyone's using it! Awesome browser screen!
Mane!!! I never had mpc before, but I got introduced to maschine like 10 years ago. When I got used to it, I became another type of beast. I know how the mpc works and maschine has a nice work flow too. And yes if you know what you’re doing, you don’t have to stop. Give me 16 to 20 minutes and I got an entire beat going in song mode break downs and all. Maschine is real deal type and the sounds, my goodness. Really great shit. I use FL studio too and the pcm type sounds on fl isn’t that good. So at times I’ll use maschine sounds, bring it into slicex and make magic magic. I need to learn to sample on maschine. I like fl studio tho so that’s where I sample at
my my my how the tides have changed. Competition breeds champions...an Akai is a Champion. Came back strong with the all in ones...my akai force is a workstation killer...and NI killer whoooohoooo!!!!
MPC mistake I think was coming out with the REN rather than going straight to the X. And the fact that MPC didn't keep the updates coming for the devices really made Maschine shine like the star it was during that period it came out. However, as great as the Maschine is now, there is NOTHING compared to the Akai sound and that legendary swing. WORD!!
Yeah, I remember when Maschine hit the market... I was first in line, got it home and realized oh it’s just a controller... It’s a weak DAW, with midi hardware lol.. It’s just now flirting with the idea of being stand alone.. NI has work to do before they can be put in the history books..
I’m no Maschine user but I think they’ve made their mark. You may have not been impressed but there’s no denying that a ton of cats did switch to that device for a hot minute. That device was the first one I can remember hearing a number of cats praising it at the same level as the MPC.
The first beat machine I got to learn how to make beats. i was going to originally get a MPC 1000. the rep at guitar center put me onto the maschine. i was with them for 12 years. now i’m MPC Gang. Maschine is overpriced for a “stand alone” machine, that you still have to plug in… so for me i needed something portable. That’s when i got the MPC live 2
When i first got maschine mk1 it was so confusing trying to learn it coming from an mpc that i gave up on it for a few years. but i came back with the maschine studio and later the maschine mk3 and maschine 2 software and i actually like it now
When I bought the Maschine, I quickly moved away from it back to the MPC. As some as the Ren came out I bought it. So that theory didn’t fly for me. The MPC still has the best and most pleasant workflow in my humble opinion. That’s what I f* around with. (No pun intended, or did I).
You gotta remember to that MPCs were a little boring at that time. Maschine was instantly the go to unit because computer music was on the rise and AKAI got caught flat footed. Maschine was loaded with kits and sounds. You could pull up 100 kicks and audition/scroll forever on screen and in the unit. It was the “everything killa”. Nothing in the gear world could touch maschine in 09.
MPC was never boring. Matter of fact Kanye West was making sure you knew how hard an MPC could rock in those days. It was the flood of wanna be producers that didn't want to learn how to use equipment that flocked to the Machine because it put everything on EasyMode. The Machine does a lot of hand holding.
I was a die hard SP & MPC dude for years until my boy who worked at the local equipment shop in my area talked me out of coppin a MPC 2500 and to cop maschine best move I ever made im still using my MK1 .
Yes. I feel like a lot of people won't give maschine a shot because of the lure and history of MPC, and it's just a pain to learn new workflows. Don't get me wrong... both are great. I don't hate MPC at all, I have one and I loved it, but maschine just does it for me. At the end of the day its about what brings out your creativity, which is completely subjective.
Every instrument brings different areas of the musician (composer/producer) to the surface. You can love an instrument for a dozen projects and one day have a need to temporarily or permanently change direction. I see lines of MACHINES in pawn shops like books in a library lol
I never got into it. I tried the sequencer and couldn't understand it. Mind you I'm coming at it from a Reason AND a MPC perspective. I have respect for that series. My boy needed something new and I recommended it to him. I think the first version had just come out at the time.
I would put the Maschine samples in my MPC4000 and it sounded much more present and solid especially with the MPC sequencer.Took the Maschine back to the shop.Got the M+ now.Great but not totally convinced.Effects are amazing.
I never used an AkaiMPC although my brother had one. Maschine was my first. I tried to use an Mpc afterwards but I hated the work flow. I will be investing in the Maschine + next year though. I do prefer a standalone. I also am getting a Korg electribe 2 sample in the meanwhile
to try the workflow out, are second hand units of the MK1, MK2 still worth to buy / supported? I see units going around for around 100 euro's secondhand on auction sites, but if the workflow is shitty or the software side isn't up to par anymore, I'll pass.
Until the MPC Touch and now the X! I own a machine and machine + and akai touch and the akai studio one and the MPC X!!! I like all of them for different reasons!!!
Lol. I feel u. You got to keep it quiet on the 909..Alot of cats dont know how dope it was..You mess around and they will raise the price even higher on ebay lol.
I had the original Maschine on Pre-order. I was looking for something that made beat making and sequencing a simpler process. I had only owned the 2000XL at the time. I remember people hating on it before even trying it on the MPC forums ( they hate everything there anyway).I remember dudes roasting me for getting a Maschine. Well when the Maschine dropped it didn't just splash it made a tidal wave knocking the MPC's off the map for years. I found that to be funny but for me I was so adapted to the MPC workflow using the computer and a controller was foreign to me. I played with my MK1 for like a week then put it in the box for years before selling it. I just couldn't get into it personally. As much of a headache as the O.G. MPC's are they make you craft better music because they make you work for it. The Machine just gave too much. You didn't have to work for anything on that unit. It was all on easy mode. Even sampling was obsolete. No one thinks of a Maschine as a Sampler. They just think of it has a Midi controller which is all it is...but you get an MPC in your hands you got a sampling weapon that you know has made certified hits.
I bought Maschine when it first came out in 2009 or so. I probably had one of the first units int he states as my retailer screwed up and was sending them out way earlier than they were supposed to. I hated the thing for a good 3 months (the first few software releases were pretty bad), then one day I sat down and really started using it and literally knocked out 6 full songs fully arranged and ready to go in a week. I was like damn. Even till this day (I'm on the MPC/Force now) I don't have that same workflow. Even when I bought the Maschine Studio the experience just isn't the same. I'll never be able to recapture that magic again. Maschine 2.x is too different to 1.x.
Ok now i see you mentioned what i covered in my comments. I commented before i had heard all of the video! AKAI got lazy because they were the only one really popping even though i had the beat thang!!! lol people don't remember that!
Man i like these vids. I think after your "What had happened wuz" slogan you should throw in some type of musical riff, to add that tiny bit of drama lol
So yo based on the veracity of your other videos I can’t help but find this v compelling even though I’d decided in the past that Maschine wasn’t likely for me. Iirc there were two things about it 1) I had to use the computer for brains but I couldn’t use AU or VST3 plugins in its otherwise mostly-complete DAW software? I get that it’s not supposed to be the entire DAW recording platform, its equivalent to an MPC/MV/MC-x0x all of which you’d use inside something else 2) I got the sense that Maschine was good for ppl who didn’t wanna create their own sounds in synthesis, their creative sound design would be mostly from sampling and programming - I do my own drum programming, too, and I sample to build my own drum kits, but I seldom use a preset synth or keyboard sound (unless its like an acoustic piano or EP I can’t improve). I get that NI has an impressive catalog of really high-quality playable sounds but not only can I not afford any/all of that, I prefer to make my own using hardware synths which the MPC is happy to drive over MIDI ( and now CV, not that I’ve got into it yet). Idk, Maschine still sound superior than, say, a Live II for a cat like me? The 16 extra knobs w LCDs on the MPC X is extremely tempting but they’ve gotta do something about the lack of CV, like an external box that adds the functionality, as not only would the X’s add’l Q link controls be so perfect for the CV/gate 8 outs, I’d just get so mad knowing I paid so much more for an MPC that lacks that (and the internal battery & speakers of the Live II … they’ve REALLY gotta update the X, don’t they?)
Machine is nice..Real easy to learn folks love it..But if you really need CV in your workflow and you dont want to add multiple peices of gear than the MPC might be better for you. If you dont mind using Machine plus another peice of gear to help with the CV then you might be able to make it work.
it still had audio latency . . . . . it was NOT an audio card. The browser is dope. The sweetspot was the MASCHINE STUDIO with the big knob/screen. There are a couple of logos that are truly top shelf in all that they do: NI, novation, DAVE SMITH DSI, ELEKTRON.
I have both mpc and maschine and i use ableton for 15 years. Ableton is still the best maschine workflow is similair. Mpc is very limited i use old mpc for sound only i would never use newer mpc over ableton with midi controller. And i also Dj and connecting maschine to Traktor or serato is flawless while mpc is not for that stuff
Maschine took the MPC concept to the next level. If they had never come out with this, we would be using some rehashed MPC2000 style boxes instead of the Akai MPCX, MPC One. Competition really drives innovation!
You might be right about that.
This series has been so entertaining and informative, making this a required sub. Great work, my guy... This might be my favorite episode, too.

Yeah, same here!
I too get MASSIVE inspiration while sitting on the toilet 😁‼️
Oh, and did you see what I did there?
MASSIVE inspiration 😆😂!
Welcome to the creative toilet seat inventors club LMAO 😆😁!!!
Funny enough I had the Mikro before I got the MPC One
I miss maschine but the MPC was a great step up
Yeah akai started getting it straight by the time they dropped the touch..the ONE is dope.
I love my mpc one.
THIS is the one i was waiting for. LOL been a Maschine user for a few years now, and i LOVE it
Lol. I feel u.
Hey man, this series has really been getting me through quarantine! Keep it up dude!
Lol. No doubt fam.
I'd like to see one of these videos for when a classic DAW came out. What was it like when Ableton Live or FL Studio (Fruity Loops) came out back in the day?
Lol. No doubt.
When I first started off making beats 5 years ago I was on the Maschine heavily. But once I used an MPC I couldn't go back to the Maschine anymore lmaoo.
Haha same here. Started 5 yrs ago with the Machine MK3 and once I got the Live the Maschine is almost unused anymore
Yeah akai made a come back with the newer MPC's.
Same here
It can be hard fam. This controller spoils you. I was sooo against cuz it relied on the pc. Lol but man. sheez
I hope you promote your beats I would love to check them out!! 100
Started with the mpc 500, then went to the Maschine MK1. Been rockin the the MK2 since 2013. As I type this, I've got the Maschine+ on the way. I love mpc, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Love the vids, man. Super dope.
Thanks fam..And your right.. If it aint broke dont fix it.
Yeah the work flow was too smooth at the time.
Love these videos so much!!!! I'm getting my first maschine mk3 this week Im so excited to make my best music with it. Keep it up! Hey can you possibly do a video about the SP-404sx and producers like dibia$e? Peace!
Thanks. no doubt fam.
Maschine did that THe MK3 Is magnificent...I love it...
No doubt.
MPC is my tool of choice but this unit is what awakened the love I have for my MPC now
I feel u.
I’m really liking this series of vidz you got going on. After watching this one, I was over here like “man, what other OG samplers is out there that he hasn’t spoke about yet?” The only two I can think of at the moment is the SP1200 and the ASR10
Lol. your reading my mind.
i'd say s900 or s950 but they aren't as iconic as all these other ones
@@aiedynwoods3499 Ooh..the 950 was nice.
Roland MC-909
@@kennethking5153 The 909 was crazy..alot of folks thought it was techno gear lol.
Started on FL, moved to an mpc 500, now Maschine and absolutely love it. Workflow is crazy good. Maschine and Serato sample together is unbelievable
I feel u..thats some interesting transitions right there.
@@DyReckProductions yeah absolutely some strange transitions!! I do miss the 500 the things a little beast!! Hard to go back after Maschine tho
Im following the same route as you on an mp500 right now... Maybe its a sign.
Do you use FL with your maschine or ableton
@@shapeshifter404 and man I had a 50] back in the day. I like maschine and Akai so I had to roll with the MPC X and the maschine +. This equipment is awesome ! I sample from serato at times!
That was the cleanest Wu-Tang reference I've heard in a while.
Lmao!
Yeah man I feel u..its workflow is different than a MPC..but once you get use to it your good to go.
maschine was my first sampler. made a few beats on it that i still like. picked up an xl and sold the maschine and never looked back. on a 2000 now.
Nice.
The maschine was the Akai OS killer. It wasn’t the JJOS killer. JJOS from free version to the paid versions is unbeatable blend on MPC.
Lol. I feel u.
Can I use JJOS on an MPD 226?
@@toku30 No. JJOS is available for MPC 1000 and 2500.
🔥BeatMaker 3 ALL DAY🙌🏻!! I went from MPC to BeatMaker 3! I still love MPC though!!🙌🏻🔥
I love your channel. I actually learned some shit I didn't know about the SP. I wanna go back and play with some of that old gear.
Lol I feel you fam thanks.
When you opened up with the ODB line I was like Yes!
Lmao!
I've been a Maschine user every day for the last 5 years now, I just ordered the mpc live 2. I wonder how it will go...
Loving this series! I started with the MK1. Using the Maschine Studio now. Can't wait until your next video
No doubt thanks.
Thanks again native shades, appreciate the hard work.
Thanks fam appreciate the support.
I am maschine user but I'm still want newer MPC standalone unit because of its fat pad, mobility and MPC logo. In reality, maschine plus has far more better sound library in standalone mode but MPC pads still make me crazy for finger drumming on it.
I feel u.
Great stuff bro, love the series!!🙏🏾✊🏾🔥🔥🔥
Thanks fam.
Finally a Maschine vid!!! Lol (Coming from a maschine fanboy) I have a MK3 and I'm NEVER going back to akai!!!
Lol.
I used an mpc for 17 years.Got Maschine and that was it.
Totally agree, I thought I'd replace Maschine mikro mk2 + PC with Standalone MPC One but after a week I had to return it, its just so uncomfortable to use compared to the maschine.
Maschine does have a speedy workflow.
DyReck AKA Native Shaaaades. my man
Lol No doubt fam.
I came so close to getting into the maschine, but I got scared off because I didn't know anyone that was using it. Nowadays, it seems that everyone's using it! Awesome browser screen!
Yup..They have a die heart consumer base.
LOVE your videos man! I'm binge watching them
Lol. No doubt.
Lol!
Lol. I think they made a mark..But them now trying to get into hardware will be interesting.. they have alot of competition.
FACTS! I NEVER GOT INTO THE MASCHINE.ENDED UP SELLING MINE.
The Live 2 is Nice!!
When i first got maschine mk1 it was so confusing trying to learn it coming from an mpc that i gave up on it for a few years. but i came back with the maschine studio and later the maschine mk3 and maschine 2 software and i actually like it now
Oh ok..Alot of folks got into Maschine when it first came out..But your right the workflow was different than an MPC.
I feel u.
Joined the family 2012,,, Lovethishit ! ✌🏼🙏🏻❤️
No doubt.
I was a die hard SP & MPC dude for years until my boy who worked at the local equipment shop in my area talked me out of coppin a MPC 2500 and to cop maschine best move I ever made im still using my MK1 .
Lol I feel u.
Same here still on MK2 no issues if I need to bang out an idea.
True!
I never got into it. I tried the sequencer and couldn't understand it. Mind you I'm coming at it from a Reason AND a MPC perspective. I have respect for that series. My boy needed something new and I recommended it to him. I think the first version had just come out at the time.
I feel u.
Rocking and doing beats with Maschine Studio on my channel to this day! Maschine was and is a game changer!!
Yup.
I would put the Maschine samples in my MPC4000 and it sounded much more present and solid especially with the MPC sequencer.Took the Maschine back to the shop.Got the M+ now.Great but not totally convinced.Effects are amazing.
Oh ok.
Super dope, still at it MK1 👌
Nice!
Maschine + 😎😎🔥🔥 Workflow sounds kill my Live 2 NI is running the table💪🏾🥶
Lol.
I never used an AkaiMPC although my brother had one. Maschine was my first. I tried to use an Mpc afterwards but I hated the work flow. I will be investing in the Maschine + next year though. I do prefer a standalone. I also am getting a Korg electribe 2 sample in the meanwhile
Oh ok..Nice.
to try the workflow out, are second hand units of the MK1, MK2 still worth to buy / supported? I see units going around for around 100 euro's secondhand on auction sites, but if the workflow is shitty or the software side isn't up to par anymore, I'll pass.
Until the MPC Touch and now the X! I own a machine and machine + and akai touch and the akai studio one and the MPC X!!! I like all of them for different reasons!!!
Nice!
I still use my maschine till this day
Me too mk1
@@m3kbeatz yes same here
@@biggareid anytime time change? And to what?

Binge watching this series!! Wondering if you gonna get to my weapon of choice back in the day Roland MC 909. Wish i had that mug right about now
Lol.
Good point..The MPC heads in the forums do complain about everything lmao!
I feel u..Maschine changed the game for alot of folks..I was always an MPC guy but I saw too many people convert to Maschine lol.
It didn't sound like the MPC 3000 but it did sound like the MPC 60 and the SP 1200(it had MP 60 and S 1200 modes) as well as its own mode
Oh ok.
Dude... WTF?! You are AMAZINGLY funny to hear.
Man we didn’t get time
stretch til version 2.7 thats what really stimied it for a while lmao. The jump from MK1 to M+ has been crazy.
Lol. I feel u.
Still got my Maschine from 2009, my boy purchased one of the new ones last year and ended up selling it within 3 months lol
Lol.
Who borrowed/lent the scene UI on the app? Ableton or Native Instruments?
Ok now i see you mentioned what i covered in my comments. I commented before i had heard all of the video! AKAI got lazy because they were the only one really popping even though i had the beat thang!!! lol people don't remember that!
Yeah Maschine surprised Akai.
Man i like these vids. I think after your "What had happened wuz" slogan you should throw in some type of musical riff, to add that tiny bit of drama lol
Lmao..Might try that.
Been waiting 4 this
Lol. no doubt.
I just got myself a Mk2 for Christmas soon as I figure out the software it’s on
Word lol.
If you dont mind using Machine plus another peice of gear to help with the CV then you might be able to make it work.
sold my maschine to get an mpc 60 II, maschine didn't give me the sound I wanted.
it still had audio latency . . . . . it was NOT an audio card.
The browser is dope. The sweetspot was the MASCHINE STUDIO with the big knob/screen. There are a couple of logos that are truly top shelf in all that they do: NI, novation, DAVE SMITH DSI, ELEKTRON.
I feel u.
I may look into getting one!!!! Love this videos!
Thanks fam.
I have a MK3 and a JAM i love maschine
I feel you.
I feel u..Abletons workflow is really close to Maschine's.
You can DJ & Drum Machine with the MPD 226
@@toku30 Yeah it looks like a nice piece.
Great video, drum samplers like this & from electron & roland are pretty good as alternatives to mpcs and can make beats just as good.
