Horak isn't playing an Andorian, he's playing an Aenar who are from Andoria but they are an blind telepathic offshoot race who live underground. This is a call back to Star Trek Enterprise.

Hemmer is one hundred percent going to be an Aenar. If that is the case, then his blindness has a built in reasoning (aenar andorians are all blind). It would also give us a telepathic character other than Spock. Perhaps even a mentor to a young Spock much in the way Tuvok mentored Kes.
Cadet Uhura's lines will be " Hailing closed Captain ".
Khan's younger 200 year old sister.
So, maybe Khan had a few relatives.

I’ve heard a rumour that Dr M’Benga is a junior doctor, and that we will get surprised with Dr Boyce as the CMO.
Looking forward to Picard season 2 but Strange new Worlds is by far my most anticipated show in years. I've always had a soft spot for Pike. Side note I hope Captain Robert April pops up down the line because he is another character that hasn't been fleshed out.
And hopefully this is in the proper universe and not the Abrams verse. If I ever see that stinking alternate Universe timeline again, it'll be too soon.

as a blind cosplayer (i became blind four years ago) i now know which character will be my next cosplay :D now i must just find a source for an andorian mask and antennas :D
btw: i just cosplay characters with the same disabilities like me (like Daredevil, Kanan Jarrus, Chirrut Imwe, genderbent Toph Beifong etc) :)

2:57 There is a meme that I found that has Ray and Fin from Star Wars talking about how their characters were ground braking and then it has Sisco and Janeway saying that it is cute how they thought that. I wanted to make one that had that and then had Lando and Lia saying "When will people stop thinking this is new?" then have the original Uhura say, "Probably never."
Gooding has some big boots to fill. We've had two great Uhuras so far.
Although, thinking about it, we've been really spoiled for the same characters being played brilliantly by more than one actor:
We've had 3 brilliant Spocks, 3 great Sareks, 2 fantastic Kirks, McCoys, Scottys, etc.
Gooding will have her fans. But damn... Nichelle was gorgeous, Gooding looks *NOTHING* like her, aside from being Black. Hollywood still thinks all Blacks look alike 😑

OK so, a different example, Data in Nemesis looks very different to Data in Encounter At Farpoint.
Hemmer looks more like an Aenar rather than Andorian. Yes I'm aware theyre techncially the same species but there is a distinction, one which i think is awesome.

I'm very excited to see Strange New Worlds. Love that they are having Uhura. I think it's a great recognition to have both characters played by Majel Barrett on the show. She has contributed a lot to the Star Trek universe since the beginning. A reference to Captain April on the show would be awesome.
I hoping for some well written, stand alone episodes, like TOS.

Loving that we get these legacy characters, to see & learn more about them. The call back to Enterprise with Hemmer the aenar. To say I’m excited, is an understatement!!
Excellent segment. I'm glad they are expanding Dr Mbenge's role in Trek. I just hope they find someone to play Dr Boyce, too, alongside Dr Mbenge, because I thought he was crucial to Captain Pike in The Cage as a trusted, older confidante to Pike. Boyce gives Pike an outlet to express his doubts and vulnerabilities as a starship Captain that younger crew members could not. It would be a mistake to drop him, IMO.
Like anyone gives a toss about Dr. Boyce.
Yes, that dynamic was present in the eventual TOS with Bones. The importance is often overlooked and under-appreciated, how he had power over the Captain legally (could rule him unfit for duty, could order him to have his annual exam and take leave), as well as a "lateral" (not really an underling) he could legitimately go to for advice.
I keep waiting for Curzon Dax.

The andorian is awesome! Take in mind, in the animated series, an episode depicts that an andorian would be Kirk's first officer if Spock had died as a kid.
Still no word on Chief Engineer. If they bring back the reason I actually wanted to (and eventually did) became an Engineer, they really better cast a Scotsman finally!
The real Scotty wasn't a Scottsman. He just decided the character should be a Scotts. Because his name was Scott. Though, Scott should be a Scotts living abroad, back in the day when last names became a thing. So his descendant, Montgomery Scott, should have any accent other than Scotts. I think Scotty put on the accent as a joke, and he got stuck doing it.
We need a strongly distinctive character. He cannot have an American accent, he has to stand out from the rest. This is critical for the show. Scottish, Irish, Russian or South African would be great.

I noticed that there are Redshirts here. Redshirts didn't technically appear after the episodes "The Cage", and "Where No Man Has Gone Before".
Before then, engineering officers wore beige uniforms which were similar to the gold TOS uniforms.
It looks like Hemmer is an Aenar, not an Andorian. They were blind, too.

Another well done video Sean. Loved the Genghis Khan comparison. Possible, but I'm sure it will actually tie into Khan or even possibly Arik Soong (or descendant) since he was involved with the augments as well.
I have been a Star Trek fan since 1969 when I watch some episodes at a neighbours place because my family didn't have a television. The first time I watched an episode in colour was in 1976 because Australian broadcast channels started transmitting in colour in 1974.
From the little we saw of the bridge set, did they get rid of the corridor that ran behind the stations? It looked like the turbolift door was more forward and more even with the bridge stations.

It actually looks like the captain's new uniform padded shoulders don't have the delta, it has the stretch-top star for Command, the same as inside the metal delta badge on his chest. I think it's the same on Spock's uniform, which has the overlapping circles for Science.

I actually HAVE been along for the whole 55 years. I remembered how excited my parents were to see whether this *_"Star Trek"_* thing they'd been hearing about was going to be any better than *_Lost in Space,_* which they'd found so disappointing . . . .

Having Chapel appear sorta breaks continuity.... she joined the Enterprise in TOS to look for her fiance, Roger Corby, who had been turned into a robot.

Since she's a lieutenant by the time Kirk takes command I expect her to only be a cadet for the first season. It leaves room to promote her to ensign and lieutenant without pulling a Harry Kim and being an ensign forever.

I think we're fortunate that the powers decided to include the the failed trek pilot into STOS as cannon.
because we got Pike on Discovery and now what should be the best trek series in a very long time.

@@86am Paramounf owns the character. I believe in Great Brittan the writer owns the character, which is why you rarely see past Companions pop up on Doctor Who.
I wasn't sure about this at first, I thought Strange New Worlds was merely there to appease old Trek fans by bring back an episodic show. However, after learning about these characters I'm very interested now.

I'm 70 watched all the original episodes in B & W that's all we had. I didn't even know it was shot in color until 1975 when I bought my first color TV and Star Trek was in syndication on a station In Fresno CA.
I hope eventually as the show goes on they add McCoy, Scotty, Sulu and Checkov.

I can't wait for this show to air! The inclusion of Bruce Hornak as an Aenar is another way for Star Trek to be opening doors & bringing real life to the 23rd century and beyond!
