I have a friend who was serbian, and he really hated the war, him and his village were made up of Montenegrins, Serbians, Albanians, and Bosnians. They lived together peacefully but sadly they had to depart.

This caused economic downturn for every state ( slovenia was kinda spared tho ). Propaganda from both sides leaders stirred up old rivalries. Leading to war, Serbia's public image was destroyed by NATO because NATO gave support to Croatia and Bosnia ( Probably again, for money ). Leading to bombings, then the Kosovo thing.

I live in upstate NY and we got a lot of Bosnians, Serbs, and Croats where I live and lot of them work in my job with me. All of them recall loving Yugoslavia and the time they grew up in it. They would always talk about that they were given what they needed like healthcare and a home while they can focus their money on them selves. I was surprised to find out that apparently Yugoslavian people were not as poor was we were taught and that everyone lived comfortable modern lives at the time. But sadly it didn’t last forever as anti communist groups and politicians fractured Yugoslavia leading to its collapse. Leading to my friends now living in America. Scraping to make ends meet. It kinda started when the US passed a bill that if the countries from Yugoslavia didn't declare independence then they would get no aid, no aid = no food = death. So they needed to declare independence. Croatia slovenia bosnia and macedonia declared independence by saying "We are an ethnic majority in these parts" but in some of the parts they claimed they were not ethnic majority, and the people in those parts wanted to declare independence because they were majority there, but the people opposing the serbs said no and ethnic cleansing and almost no more serb majority parts.
Yugoslavia dealt with ethnic issues since the beginning of its existence. Each ethnicity has a little different priorities. Serbs as the biggest ethnic groups were dominating the country and often ignored the needs of others. Tensions were getting bigger and bigger.

@Paja As a Serb i must say that's bullshit Croats are not Catholicized serbs by your logic all Slavs are Serbs basically the south Slavs arived to the Balkans and started to split from their groups and create their groups etc. It's just the Catholic chuch from the west spread their beliefs to the western balkans and the church from the east aka Orthodox to the eastern Balkans the Bosnians were a thing of theirs for a bit having the Bosnian church

Dad was born in Novi Sad, 1969. To all of you who believe Communism is good and have never experienced living in a Communist country, my dad has told me many things about living in Yugoslavia. I doubt you'd enjoy it.
I guess it depends on which part of Yugoslavia you lived in. My grandparents lived in Yugoslavia since the 1990s until they flet they told me life in Yugoslavia was good.

I live in upstate NY and we got a lot of Bosnians, Serbs, and Croats where I live and lot of them work in my job with me. All of them recall loving Yugoslavia and the time they grew up in it. They would always talk about that they were given what they needed like healthcare and a home while they can focus their money on them selves.
I was surprised to find out that apparently Yugoslavian people were not as poor was we were taught and that everyone lived comfortable modern lives at the time.
But sadly it didn’t last forever as anti communist groups and politicians fractured Yugoslavia leading to its collapse. Leading to my friends now living in America. Scraping to make ends meet.
(I’m just relaying what they told me it was like)

It kinda started when the US passed a bill that if the countries from Yugoslavia didn't declare independence then they would get no aid, no aid = no food = death. So they needed to declare independence. Croatia slovenia bosnia and macedonia declared independence by saying "We are an ethnic majority in these parts" but in some of the parts they claimed they were not ethnic majority, and the people in those parts wanted to declare independence because they were majority there, but the people opposing the serbs said no and ethnic cleansing and almost no more serb majority parts.

Yugoslavia dealt with ethnic issues since the beginning of its existence. Each ethnicity has a little different priorities. Serbs as the biggest ethnic groups were dominating the country and often ignored the needs of others. Tensions were getting bigger and bigger.

The Croatian province and Slovenian province were the richest, and were giving money to Serbia to develop it, the Serbs did not ignore the needs of others as if they did then in WW2 they would not help, They would not help Macedonia which probably would have starved without Serbian province funding ( yes some exaggeration ). It was just when Milosevic came to power and Franjo Tudman and all the other idiots that Nationalism started to spread. Franjo Tudman put cartoons on croatian TV that showed videos of the massacre of serbs in 1945 in a good light. Milosevic showed videos of Croats stealing Serbian land. untill 1991 there were weekly bus trip to Trieste (north east Italy) full of Yugoslavians that went there to buy goods that were common in Italy but not in their nation.
