Navy Refit Yards is such a good thing to pick for a naval power. 15% repair speed is nothing to sniff at when you have to potentially repair dozens of ships at a time - not having a fleet available for 6 months is painful.

The strat for the states in SP (banned in MP cuz its op): Until 1938 you build infastructure 1938-1940 civs in the states you built infrastructure 1940+ convert your factories to mils (you get absurd bonuses to conversion) For fast relief on depression you want to save all PP and use it to pulse a communist advisor, getting just enough of the communism tree before a civil war would trigger. You do this by hiring the communist advisor off the initial PP you get, getting enough support to pass the first FT then fire them. Once your more down the other parts of neutralizing the GD you rehire him for just enough support to pass the second act from the Communism tree for GD relief then you fire him again and ban communism. You can remove GD 2 years early by doing this.
So many ways to improve this. 1. With the destroyers the non-DP guns have way more light piercing and can actually crack most of the existing light cruisers (which usually only have armor 1 or no armor at all). Also you want destroyers to be cheap and spammable. 2. Medium scout planes and radar = full naval intelligence. 3. Converted battleships + armor 3 + flight deck armor + DP secondaries x2 + Flight deck x1 + space efficient design policy are only superseded by Carrier 4 in terms of shooting down naval bombers while sinking Japanese and Italian ships (enemy air targets the carrier with the highest HP) 4. Exercise the fleet and use the naval XP High Command instead of the refit. Max out your marines docrine then your mountaineers doctrine = 1000 special forces battalions (plus rangers and pioneers help cover the weakness of heavies. 5. Was refiting those BBs actually cheaper than just making new good ones? Because it often isn't. The SHBBs are actually unbelievably good if you're planning to stay out till 1941. I sank all Japanese carriers in two battles. 6. SPEEEEED. Keep your heavy tanks going at least 10.5kph (speed of Amtrak inc MIO), make up for reliability shortfalls with maintenance battalions, start in france, set your offensive line to vladivostok, click go, masturbate. The heavy tank design is Improved heavy + medium 2 man turret + medium cannon 1 + christy suspension + Engine 20/Armor 0 and no fuel drum. 7. Obviously you were doing a meme, but if you want to do the fuel tank thing properly make them AA instead of putting them in Recon. With Anti-Air 2 you get 180 air attack for five battalions, with anti-air 3 (reuires medium tanks) you get 230. The amphibious tanks don't have the same penalties as Anti-Air tanks re:breakthrough and hardness, so you're not hurting your divisions much doing it. 8. For fun with tanks you really want to be playing soviet union. Russian bias is present in paradox games too. Here's a challenge for you. As Britain, beat Japan by 1939, then beat Germany, the USA, and the Soviet Union using only modern tanks and mechanized by 1947. Navy as much as you want but no air.

I have a challenge for you: play as one of the allies, preferably the USA, and let all of your allies fall, and then try to win the war (maybe you can do that with Alf Landon(the challenge, that is))
Max flight deck Carriers paired with torpedo cruisers tend to be the best thing I've experienced so far navy wise, no need for too much AA or often even investment into battleships if the enemy is being bombed from above and torp struck into submission. Armoring carriers is typically a futile affair from what I've noticed compared to simply glassing the opponent so badly they can't continue to engage the carrier force.
am i alone in thinking dealing with japan as USA is trivial? Turn phillipines into an unsinkable carrier, put all your troops except marines in it. Dont annex as sometimes japan wont wardec you. Then go all in with your navy and airforce with marines to invade iwo then tokyo+neighbouring port from midway. the marines wont get far into japan (their air will clobber you as your airforce is out of range and your carrier fighters are pants) so build some forts and ports to hold the line and improve supply for the next step. Bring everyone to japan. Battleplan north and south. Setup a new naval invasion to the south. Attack. Annex phillipines. You'll get bugger all in the peace deal but the war is over not long after it started.
Funfact, if you get an MIO up to rank 6 and unlock the assignable policy slot, if you put on 'Heavy Gantry Cranes' you can force the MIO to apply to heavy tanks with its normal bonuses.
With the U.S. you get a bunch of Clemson class destroyers at the start. 100 if I remember correctly. Take those and split them into 10's then set them to convoy escort under admiral Burke (he has an asw buff). Japanese subs will no longer be a big issue. Obviously you need to build replacement destroyers for your fleet. But you should anyway. Tier 1 destroyers have horrible hp. If they get wiped out in a fleet battle, your battleships become way more vulnerable. That's actually the best strategy to defeat the AI. It doesn't understand that. Which means the light cruiser is possibly the most important ship in a fleet. They're really good at wiping out weak destroyers with no issue at all, then then usually a second battle occurs and you wipe out the heavy units. Torpedoes are important to do this, though. As is having a balanced fleet. It really depends on the nation and war you plan to fight to decide what sort of destroyer to build. I usually have at least 2 designs building at once with larger nations. One for fleets and spotting, and another for convoy escort.
I wish I could include in a template a truck group that is for fuel and support/equipment-supply so you in case of being encircled they can last a lot more, but at the cost that piece of the divition is non combatant and even more, affects slightly the overall stats of your divition

The modified light tank fuel tanker raises a pretty obvious question why can't we have regular fuel tankers? Why can't we throw in one or two supply or fuel trucks to ease our logistics on the frontline. If each division can do more of their logistics themselves they need less centralised support with a greater upfront cost of equipment.
I managed to cap Germany as the Netherlands using heavy tanks with one man light turrets, an auto cannon, radio, and all machine guns. I also didn't join the Allies.
