- Tifusari was produced by Zagreb Film in 1963. The animation was scripted by Vatroslav Mimica, based on Jure Kaštelan's poem cycle of the same name. The Tifusari cycle is one of the apexes of Yugoslav partisan poetry, reflecting on childhood, homeland and the hope for a better future in the midst of a cruel and unforgiving revolutionary struggle.
I decided to subtitle and upload this as I wanted this work of art to be more accessible to foreign audiences. If there are any copyright issues with me uploading it, I will take it down on request.

yugoslav here: this short film is based on a poem that is recited throughout the video, told from a point of view of a typhus infected partisan soldier losing his mind to hallucinations while resisting nazis in guerrilla warfare, that's why the verses repeat and sound nonsensical. besides hallucinations, other symptoms of typhus include a very high fever, rash on most of the body, diarrhea and vomiting, and photophobia, and once the illness progresses untreated the infected is basically doomed. in both world wars, yugoslavia fought and successfully held off multiple empires, back to back and basically alone
Thank you for translating this piece of art. Freedom and compassion for every person who resisted injustice and fought for something they believe in.
An interesting film in the history of croat animation. Loved the silhouette designs, these faces, they tell a thousand word.

All my homies LOVE vintage Yugoslavian animation
Thank you so much for uploading this and adding the subtitles! I’m a westerner who just discovered Zagreb Film for the first time, and I appreciate the ability to do so because of folks like you who subtitle films for wider accessibility. Such a beautiful and affecting film, and even without a grasp on the language, the rhythm and matching sounds of the poem really hit for me.
Thank you Karkat : ) I'm seeing a lot of comments, was it shared somewhere again?
I didn’t see this video or film shared specifically, but I did see an overview video on Yugoslav animation pop up recently (3 days ago I think?). I stopped part of the way through at the mention of Zagreb film. A film professor of mine had mentioned them before in passing, so I figured it was time to watch some of their works. I did a TH-cam search for Zagreb film and this was the one that caught my eye first. This film might be mentioned in that video, but I can’t confirm yet.
I keep trying to make sense of this even though I probably shouldn't.
This is so beautiful.
Psst. There's meaning behind it in the description.
And thankfully I found that, because I sure as Hell couldn't make sense of the poem myself, lol.
Truly a fever dream
i have no idea what i just watched but i loved it
Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this! I really enjoyed it!
This cartoon got an brand new restoration here in Croatia among with Scarecrow(1957) and Happy End(1959)
I was actually trying to track down Happy End for a while, do you know of any current issues of it online?
@@vernadskova All of the Zagreb Film Cartoons can be posted online.
Me when something goes slightly wrong:
watching this in pitch darkness was a bad idea
Appreciate this. Cheers
Why the hell was this my first recommended video?
The film is versed in the aforementioned poems, although I have not had the opportunity to review, if you can understand the ideas of those times of cataclysms, in the old world.

And again the motherland is bent. And it’s getting worse every year.
I’d like it English-dubbed, so I wouldn’t have to constantly look. What do you think people have EARS for?
You will listen to the beautiful voice of Zlatko Crnković. AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.
