The thing I like about Watchmen the most is that they're all named after renaissance painters & they all wear different colour headbands so you can pick them up in a crowd, even though they're all Ninjas who hide in the shadows & are never meant to be seen.

Fun fact Geoff Johns said the inspiration for Mime and Marionette, basically his version of two old Charlton Comics characters called Punch and Jewelle from like the 40's. Also my vote for what I'd like to see next would be the R rated animated movie but 3 movies. One of the prequels done in a series of short "chapters" done in a Tarantino style where they all link together by the end (hell just let Tarantino direct the film). 2nd of course based on the original comic and 3rd R rated Doomsday Clock

The point of Doomsday Clock is less of a normal sequel to Watchmen, but a sort of answer to it. Like a debate between the modern deconstructed ideas of that plagued superhero stories in modern day that came from Watchmen against the classical ideal of one. It’s a pretty meta commentary on how Watchmen influenced modern superhero comics.
It’ll be very apparent in the final issue which will be all about Superman and Dr. Manhattan’s confrontation.

I like the motion comic a lot in the sense that it feels like an audiobook, but if I could change anything about it, I'd add in all the supplemental materials from the end of each chapter, like the excerpts from Hollis Mason's book and what have you.
The TV show (currently 7 episodes in as I get to this video) is fantastic still. Episode 7 is really shaky in that it reveals a lot about Senator Keene's plan that sounds really dumb, but I have a feeling that there's still a few tricks up this show's sleeve as we approach the last couple episodes. And hopefully a few more lube guys.

Love Zack Snyder’s movie but still think that original comics is too good to need any adaptation/sequel/prequel

    The Watchmen comic. In braille.

The sequel is embedded in the original comic if you read it closely

My favourite watchmen thing that isn’t the original watchmen comic is probably doomsday clock.
But depending on how they end the tv series could take over it.

      Doomsday clock is ass

    • @beattodeath
      @beattodeath 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep.
IMDb already lists the woman playing Mrs. Crookshanks as also being Marionette, so, imo DC/WB lagging behind is definitely because the TV show is SO good (hopefully we get a second season as the 9 episodes seems more like a miniseries than the "remix" of the original comics that Lindelof has called it.)
So again imo once we see how the series plays out the future of the DCU and The Watchmen as both a Show and possibly the real reason for the existence of the new 52 & its failures could end up as a complete Reboot of the DC universe.
I can't believe how good the TV show is and how it is retelling the story of Superman's character as an allegory and a cautionary tale at the same time.
      So good.

Doomsday clock is a bit of fun as a normal weirdo dc event book but it’s garbahjjj as a sequel to watchmen

My favorite supplementary piece to the Watchmen graphic novel is probably the movie, at this point. I'm waiting to watch the show to decide how I feel about it and I haven't read any of Doomsday Clock.
I did read a few of the Before Watchmen books and wasn't happy with certain things, such as the whole thing with The Comedian and JFK.

I really like doomsdayclock? It's not on the level of Kingdom Come obviously but I feel like it's making the same kind of points. Feels like it's trying to make an argument against the edgy darkness that came from a lot of post-watchmen comics (which Moore and Gibbons have both voiced regret about) and that new 52 was pretty ripe with. Almost feels like an apology lol

Exactly! Sure it won’t be better than Kingdom Come but whether it’ll be a classic or not will depend on issue 12 where everything comes to head. It’s going to be 47 pages instead of 32 so get hyped!

I think it'd be cool if some voice actors redid the audio for the motion comic to replace the one guy doing everything, and add good foley and music.

I’ve heard the tabletop RPGs are the only officially sanctioned by Alan Moore “prequel” material. I’ve tracked down a couple books but haven’t read them yet.

You missed the Watchmen roleplaying game from the 80s which I think had new material from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
