I remember watching all those games, this was when football players had dedication, respect, and love for their university. Wasn't about money it was a brotherhood of teammates. Sure miss those days!
We had an Institution down here in the Deep South, Bear Bryant and football. He didn't have to pay recruits to come play at Bama, the best players wanted to play for "The Bear".
Yep, the days of playing with such intensity, and heart are gone. The NIL will finish off college sports. The death knell is tolling. I'm not from Alabama but have always appreciated their dynasty.
@@hesavedawretchlikeme6902 most of these players have no concept of loyalty and dedication to the team. No one player is bigger than the team, and the team comes first. I thought the NCAA would leave everything alone and just pay the players, but they changed the transfer regulations and now it's like pro football. It's a bunch of free agents going for the most money.
Loved watching Major play. His all-out effort on every play was reminiscent of Johnny Musso. He scored a TD in four New Year's Day bowl games (back when playing on New Year's Day really meant something). Bama won all four. During his four seasons at Bama (1977-1980) they won three SEC Championships, two National Championships, and lost only four games.
Should’ve won the ‘77 NC as well. Texas and Oklahoma were proven to be fakes as well as Michigan and Ohio St. We beat Ohio St in the Sugar Bowl 35-6… 😂 Bama was the only team in the top5 to win their bowl game and we were moved from 2-3 at the end of regular season despite completely spanking #18 LSU, Miami and auburn. Had that ridiculous move from 2 to 3 not of happened then maybe we’re co-champs. One thing is for sure, for 3 straight years we fielded the best team in college football. I think Coach Bryant knew he had something special rlly special coming when the ‘76 team beat a top10 UCLA team 36-6. Wish I was old enough to of watched those games live but channels like BamaRewind are hero’s. Rtr, boys! Coach DeBoer for NC in year 1!
@@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 I was in attendance at the (cold!) 36-6 Liberty Bowl win. Particularly satisfying because I was seated near some very haughty UCLA fans!
I can't thank you enough for this highlight video. Major is so often overlooked in the pantheon of great 'Bama running backs. He was a relentless competitor who played like every down was his last. Which was typical of Paul Bryant coached players, but Olgilvie was a cut above.
The first game (college) I can recall watching was USC/ BAMA ( Won by SC),& IMMEDIATELY those numbered helmets,& half- jerseys stood out. Add to that....the celestial voice of Keith Jackson saying...." Majuh" Ogilvie. ROLL TIDE!
GREAT Name "Major Ogilvie" wow what a player! His name was everywhere during the Bama run late 70's with The Bear. This is the Era I became a Bama fan for life and I am from Ohio. I loved the wishbone, the Bear and the mystique of Bams was transferred into my sole i was 10 yrs old. I am 56 today. ROLL TIDE#
I was just 13 yrs ild and a little before i started watch g Bama play but i was told a lot about the old optionthat Alabama use to run and how good they could run it!!
On that last run, watch #45 Steve Whitman spike that Arkansas player in the end zone. One of my favorite memories from that 1980 Sugar Bowl. But you're right; it's the blocking and faking and the timing of the pitch that make the wishbone go. It's such a beautiful offense to watch.
@@robotunes Was it ever! I loved the wishbone, it was an amazing team concept and wore the opponent down 9.5 times out of ten. Having a RB like Ogilvie who either juke you or run your ass over was devastating. What great times for us fans!
I could watch an hour or two of that. "The Major!" He was named after a man who Ogilvie's dad admired from his days in the Pacific in WWII...a man was a major. Love it.
That Wishbone was deadly. I can’t decide if I like the Oklahoma version or the Alabama version better. There are slight differences that showed the different styles of Bryant and Switzer
Notice how when contact approaches, he instinctively drops his pad level for leverage! Never avoids contact but instead seeks out tacklers to punish! Very Czonka-ish.
This is a real Bama channel. A lot of those Bama stations on you tube are a bunch of posers from out west. I can tell this dude is from Bama by the stuff he puts up. RMFNT. I wish u could do news and go live on Big Bama stories, one day maybe ? Even just updates on Bama news would be strong.
I might later on. Been thinking about something like that because I can’t make money from these due to copyright. I appreciate the kind words man! Ozzie Newsome next! ROLL TIDE!

The Wishbone, Veer Option, and now the Zone Read, are the best offenses to run if the quarterback and running backs are great at riding the ball and reading the key on defense. It's faking the ball but more than that. The quarterback back has to stick the ball in the belly and keep it there till he can find the key defensive player they are reading. If the defensive tackle or end commits to the handoff the quarterback keeps the ball and continuation. If the defender doesn't commit to the handoff the quarterback gives the ball to the first back. When these reads and fakes are mastered, the defense has no chance. Lamar Smith runs a type of Zone read, or option, so does Josh Allen, and Taysom Hill in New Orleans.

Me too brother. I am afraid those days are gone for good. NIL and the portal are destroying college football.

@@barrywatts875Done to end SEC dominance...just like expansion, which increases injuries and adds more luck and fatigue to an already long season.

Major and Patrick White are the only 2 to accomplish this feat!!

Love watching the old wishbone clips.
He was the ultimate teammate
I grew up in the 70's with Bear & Bama. That wishbone was WICKED, let me tell ya.
He played Highschool football at Mt. Brook, Rutledge at Banks HS
On the outskirts of BHM.
Still One Of My Favorite RB’s

David Palmer's highlights was about 10 minutes long.
Ogilvie is just as great, but there is significantly less footage lying around of him.
Sweet wishbone action. No matter how you defense it, you chose poorly.
he ran like a brutha
😂
Ran well, the option play is the most beautiful and deadly play in all of football.
