Boy seeing all those old games brings back memories I won a atra game system when they first came out I am 53 yrs old I still have it and all the games
I like any type of store that feels like a stuffed-to-the-gills warren that’s been cobbled together over decades, whether it’s a bookstore, hardware store, or games/hobby shop.
Cool store. Would love to have one near me! I played the NES, SNES, N64, and Gameboys as a kid. I was a expert at all the Mario's and a Pokemon master! Today I play PC the most and my name gives away my favorite PC game, Mass Effect!
What did you enjoy about this video? What would you buy? Also, let me know what was your favorite console and game back in the day in the comments below! Thanks for watching~
I love these store videos Cory. I remember exploring aki habara a few times, you can get lost in another universe. I'm really happy I'm not really into collecting otherwise I'd be out a lot of money.
I grew up with Bomberman 64, Cruisin' USA and Super Mario 64. Good memories, those were my favorite N64 games. Oh and Donkey Kong Country on the gameboy.
Yeah, Super Potato is expensive. I remember visiting Super Potato both in Osaka and Tokyo when I was there in 2019. The Osaka store is the one I remember the most, but your video reminded me of how damn cramp the Tokyo store is. Holy crap!
I was actually going to ask you on Tuesday as to retail stores in Japan that would be the equivalent of EB Games. Looking forward to this video. Thanks
To my knowledge, EB Games is like Game Stop in the U.S. It focuses more on modern and current release titles and consoles, yeah? In Japan, the games section of Yodobashi Camera and Bic Camera or Yamada Denki would be like equivalent to that. Basically any large electronics store where they sell TVs, air conditioners, computers, etc. will have a full video game section. Super Potato is more focused on specificaly retro gaming, which you wouldn't be able to find at those electronics stores.
Yeah, that tote bag was pretty cool! If it was bigger, I'd try to buy it. I'd use it to carry groceries! And yeah, it's definitely a tourist destination. I feel like most tourists who visit Akihabara are interested in gaming and would probably have Super Potato on their bucket list. Thanks for watching!
I visited Super Potato in 2017. I tried the virtual boy for 5 minutes and still remember how blindingly red it was. I have no idea who could have played with that over an hour and not gotten blind from it.
hahahaha Yeah! I remember playing it when I was in 9th grade back in 1995 when it came out. They had a demo display just like this one and I'd play it and afterwards feel like I was cross-eyed for a few minutes. Maybe that's why it wasn't popular and died out. hehehe
I've never related the size of the SFC boxes to VHS cassettes before. It must be pretty close. Well observed. I was there in August in SP, its a nice shop but I prefer Mandarake for the super premium items. The layout is nicer, the games come in acrylic plastic boxes and the premium case is better displayed. I would even argue the quality of the games boxes is higher as well and the staff will actually help you. SP is cramped with games down to ankle level in places which just doesn't make for a good shopping experience. The staff don't help much either and state " if its not on the shelf we don't have it".
My favorourite console might be Super Nintendo. The one I played the most on it was Mario Kart but I think my favorite would be Legend of Xelda - a Link to the past. (not very original I know..)
No no, Super Nintendo was definitely one of the greatest consoles ever and so were those games! There's no original or unoriginal in terms of liking games. hehehe I loved those games! Thanks for watching~
;) it isn't neko/inu count day, it's "I'm sorry" count day. Very interesting but those prices are ridiculous. I suppose the rent for that location is equally insane.
Man, I’ve been in Japan plenty of times, but I wish I bought a lot of these games back in 2014 when I was there for the first time. They were a lot cheaper and foreigners weren’t as abundant lol. Now that everyone knows Japan is the video game Mecca, all the retro games have blown up in price lol. I also miss being the only foreigner back then lol

I love retro games Cory. Excellent tour of Super Potato thank you so much for showing us around 👍 I would go broke shopping there LOL 😁

Thanks for the info. I will definitely have to visit this store in March. I have allocated two days to my trip just to explore Akihabara.
Whipeout on N64 was my favorite growing up.
Wow, that takes me back. I never had it but my friend did. Good racing fun!
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island .... SNES .... super all-time Favorite
Ah, that was a fun one!
I remember that gameboy display. I think it ran Tetris
Super Takai Potato is a more appropriate name. That place is incredibly overpriced. Thanks for the video brother.
I kind of want the Link to the Past tote bag. Also, it was interesting to see so many Westerners there, as opposed to your neighborhood walks.
