My husband and I really enjoy all your videos, you & your Dad have offered a lot of info. We are also Newbee's and have tried some of your "ideas" on our hives...so far all has worked well! Sooo keep them coming, we have a lot to learn!
those purple flowers looked like asters to me. Its a good fall flower and will grow during the golden rod season. A great late food source for winter prep.
2:50 those are definitely Aster flowers. At 2:59 , the yellow one is called Goldenrod. We have a lot of those wildflowers here in CT also. 12:20 Hummingbird Moth, also called Hemaris and Sphinx Moth.
I don't know about you, but working for a couple of hours with my head looking up and honey dripping all over me, is not the way I prefer to remove a hive, give me a wall cut out any day. I got to admit, seeing a hive that big, even though it was overhead, gets my heart racing. Your plan of attack was perfect, you played those bees like a fiddle. That bee you swallowed would have tasted better if it had been covered in dark chocolate. And one more thing, with Christmas around the corner, the Gulf coast has some great Christmas light displays, I bet they'd look real good on a video. Peace brother.
Wow! That was a doozy! Huge hive! I wish so badly I could fly you up here to help me with a removal. I have a clients house that has honeybees 25' tall by 3 feet wide. waiting till spring to deal with it.... And I can't do it on my own.
You're always a cool dude. I'm glad you worked a deal with the guy. I'm excited to get my own hives started and hopefully reach your level one day to where I have enough to give away to others that typically would have never tried honey not bought from a store.
***** Had one last week that the guy said he would do it himself before paying anyone a dime. He called back the next day and said he changed his mind after a few stings. lol
@@628DirtRooster I am deathly allergic to honey bee stings. I get Frankenstein feet or hands from one sting. Lasts about two weeks before I walk with Doctors care. Once when I was about seven I went through about ten days of shots to help knock out my bodies defense mechanism to that poison.

So you are going for the classification of Entomophagy? LOL ;-) Thanks for all your great vids. The plant is a variety of wild Aster. Not the cheap, over bred varietys you see at grocery stores and nurseries. The wild variety is important fall plant where I am from - kinda like your golden rod without the dirty tennis shoe smell. Once you get them started, they are wonderful, they reseed them selves after that. A great no fuss plant.
+Naturally Bee Charming I was going for the whole spider man experience but I never developed any super bee powers. I think I'll leave Entomophagy to the Chinese. If things ever get really bad at least I know I can stomach it though. :) Those wild Asters I think would be a great addition to a fall honey flow in years like last year when the Golden Rod was dry and didn't produce much nectar.
Speaking of flowers as a kid I found some blue flowers in my back yard that I thought were pretty cool. There was like 1 of them growing and I had seen a couple some years prior I think. I showed them to a friend and told him not to touch the flower and he immediately ripped it out of the ground. They never grew back again. I actually haven't even seen them since growing anywhere actually.
do you charge for bee removal by the hour.... or by the job?..... I have to have one removed from my garage and they want to charge me 250. per hour..... that seems like alot
I would have no way of knowing without a some details. I'm not going to get involved but get another bid if you aren't comfortable. This is contracting work and there are no standard prices for this.
I just started beekeeping and I think I've watched probably half of your videos in the last week. I love being able to see you do removals so I can use some of your methods when I go removals. Keep up the good work.
That hustler though!! "I got 30 on me right now!" Brilliant! Badass tune after!! Love it! Loving the videos! Luckily you didn't get stung when you swallowed that poor bee!
You really do a great job producing these videos! You speak clearly, (except when you are swallowing bees) and you provide "spot on" explanation while you are working. Please remember that some of us older, deaf, and slightly senile folks need repetition. "Repetition is good!" I hope you will discuss more about the use of nuc's and queen reproduction in the future. Great job! Keep up the great work and don't get weak. LP
+Larry Peterson Ha! Thanks Larry. The sound on this one was really bad. Two more two go and the sound will be back to normal. We'll get back into nucs and queens again in February probably.
The sound dropped out severely in the first few minutes of the video; when you were inside probing the ceiling for the hive... Could still hear you if strained mine ears, or I guess those using headphones had easier time at it. You Monster, you devoured an innocent Bee... :P Guess props are in order for not editing that out, and for the "smooth" line, like you drank some liquid fire disguised as alcohol; or in this case, murdered a Bee. He'd come over thinking he was brave enough, get buzzed a few times, then had to go recharge his liquid courage. Bet those neighbors still talking the two crazy guys who gave zero cares about all those Bees.
Nice liquid gold treasure find......... question........ what is the rule of thumb for how much the bees need for winter left in hive? lbs. of honey for lbs of bees? North Texas...
+Me Craig Interesting question. I don't track the pounds of bees in a hive but for a healthy colony in one ten frame deep brood box I feel OK going in with five full frames of honey. I still have to keep an eye on them through winter since our winters are so mild and they still fly quite a bit. We always end up supplemental feeding.
You need a kevlar bee suit for these types of removals. As much action behind you as in front of you. Now you know where to set up a honey stand though lol.
Hi. When you do a job like this, do you sign some type of agreement or something in case you do damage to their property? Also; What do you do with the honey you get from these hives? Do you give the property owner some kind of collateral in order to secure a job in case you can't get there right away? I interested in doing this. That's why I'm asking, that's all.
+Kenneth Christison We don't guarantee against damage since doing damage is required to complete the job. I keep my honey and usually use it for gifts. My dad sells his. I have a contract but have only used it once when one was requested.
Kenneth Christison Just as clean as if it were in your own equipment and maybe even cleaner since their wax is virgin and has not come from treated equipment. The only danger in these is if they have been sprayed with poison but you can almost always smell if someone has done that.

I know how they breed, just how do you get them all breed and back a hold of them. Looks like when you let them go in a hive they would be hard to get back? I lost my one and only hive to wax moths so I'll be starting over next year with all new equipment and bees, Thanks, Capt'n
+wincharter1 We put them (virgin queens) in nucs or in breeder nucs with a couple of hand fulls of bees and leave them there until they are mated and then move that colony out and put another virgin and some more bees in and let her get mated and just repeat the process. They aren't too hard to find in small colonies.

I know this is an old comment, but for anyone looking through these videos - raw honey is in fact very healthy for you, good for your immune system. Local honey helps with allergies as well. It's just something we have developed over centuries with living beside bees, and the fact we can coexist or share this symbiotic relationship with bees to help them while our environment becomes more hostile to encounters with feral bees, will hopefully continue to aid these little creatures in thriving.
That looked like Crockett and Tubbs went by on them jet ski's. Wonder what they doing so far North? They must have heard somebody selling honey for sedney fi dollars a bucket. Did they give you they autographs? That was a lot of bees on that job. I'd give that a try if NASA would ever lend me one of their dandy suits.

I knew an old man who swallowed a bee, golly gee he swallowed a bee. Beautiful hive. So how long do you figure those bees were there considering how big that hive was?
when you swallowed that bee, did you get stung? how does one deal with an inside the body sting? that's gotta swell up one's throat real badly. also, what was that huge thing hovering around the honey combs? i thought it was a hummingbird at first, but then i wasn't too sure.
@@628DirtRooster you got lucky, holy cannoli. Also, no wonder it's called a hummingbird moth lol. It is very easy to mistake for a hummingbird first glance. Cool :D thank you for taking time to answer my questions :)

+Cheryl Alford That just tells me I talk too much. Bee box open - mouth shut....
Can you eat honey straight extracted from the hive
+Jet Nassar That's the best kind of honey! People pay good money for fresh honeycomb and unpasteurized product.
Another great video!! 👍
Was it a chocolate coated one? 9:24 There the best YUM chocolate and honey don't get any better may be with peanut butter
Taste like honey :)
Yep try the chocolate coated ones YUM
That looked like Crockett and Tubbs went by on them jet ski's. Wonder what they doing so far North? They must have heard somebody selling honey for sedney fi dollars a bucket. Did they give you they autographs? That was a lot of bees on that job. I'd give that a try if NASA would ever lend me one of their dandy suits.
+Mooky Mann Hahahaha!! Dey was goin fiddy fi miles an hour on dem thangs when dey passed. They didn't even see me.
I know people at Stennis Space Center. I might be able to get you a loaner suit. :)
I knew an old man who swallowed a bee, golly gee he swallowed a bee.
Beautiful hive. So how long do you figure those bees were there considering how big that hive was?
+VuPrime Ha, nice rhyme. They were probably there for about two years.
I've always thought that hawk moths were kind of cool. The first time I ever saw one I thought it was a hummingbird.
+DPXPC Is that what these are called? These things are fast.
+DPXPC Is that the kind that raid Honeybee hives and steal a bunch of honey? Apparently they smell like a bee and don't get attacked...
Phil Schultz They get in comb when it's in the open but I've never seen them inside a hive.
when you swallowed that bee, did you get stung? how does one deal with an inside the body sting? that's gotta swell up one's throat real badly. also, what was that huge thing hovering around the honey combs? i thought it was a hummingbird at first, but then i wasn't too sure.
No sting from that one. The hovering thing was a hummingbird moth.
@@628DirtRooster you got lucky, holy cannoli. Also, no wonder it's called a hummingbird moth lol. It is very easy to mistake for a hummingbird first glance. Cool :D thank you for taking time to answer my questions :)
Man I wish I would run into you doing a swarm removal, I've probably never tasted real fresh local honey in my life, would pay triple that, easily, for that much 30 min old honey.
(I do have a local beekeeper scoped out and I'm going to be stopping by for some fresh comb honey soon, mostly due to your videos!)
Price is about $10-15 per pound around here from what I've seen. At least in the markets. I expect that is a lot higher than what you'd expect wholesale?
Yeah, that's higher that what it runs around here. $8.00 - $10.00. Good stuff though.
Smart man buying honey from the source
+Mitchell Overvold He got a sweet deal too. I think he was lining up sales before we left. lol
Don’t know anything about bees also don’t like them either too. I been watching your content all day and subbed. What does that smoke you guys use do?
Smoke covers their "alarm pheromone"
628DirtRooster Ok good to know thanks.
that was the mother hive,... so much honey
I wish they were all this full.
beautiful combs.
+Rick DeWitt I was pretty impressed when I got it open.
Brush your hair with those combs. Maybe that project dude was gonna try that. Someone will make some kind of hair formulation for a buck.
They look like they've only been there a few days, too. :D
+Pop's Shack Haha, yeah right. Maybe a week or two. ;)
Oh mate that was bloody funny.
+littleninpo Rough going down
How much did you wind up selling that bucket for? He seemed like he was willing to pay that $75 if you stuck to that price.
+Kelly Richardson I practically gave it to him at $45.
love your channel Sir, curiously I have a question, I hope you don't mind. Who got into Beekeeping first, your dad or you? It seems at times your more experianced but then in others your dad seems to be. I love how he is slowly starting to talk to the Camera now like you do.
Kelly Richardson My little brother started first and them me and our dad started a year later.
@@628DirtRooster Side note on that big looking moth flying around those honey buckets. I think but not sure, too far away but it may have been a hawk moth.
Did you ever find out what kind of flowers those where the bee's wnnt gaa gaa over?
Also, how'd the bee tase? XD
Did the queen ever surface?
Asters
The queen was in there.
loads of vitamins in that bee but better off sticking to honey lol
I felt a little boost from it. ;)
What does smoking do?
+MrBtad Interrupts their ability to communicate and send out an alarm pheromone
you bee husslaa-- ha ha 72 dolla- crack me up-- yall did a good clean up on that one- heck the honey alone was worth the extraction- you didnt find the queen- maybe she was the one you ate-- lol--- blessings
+movinon04 ROTFL I never thought about the queen being the one dive bombing my uvula. You saw us working our side hustle on this one. :)
Instead of a Protein bar it's a protein nugget, delivered.
they want the honey to sell when you said how much a bucket of it could cost
yum love honey that looks beautiful the pattern and waves
Will they make a new queen?
+Beazley Will If there's not one in there they will and I can't remember if there was.
Thank you sir
