I really appreciate the depth of detail you provide on the why and the how of things. I also think you, unlike a lot of channels, lay out so much of the errors or failures you have to overcome. You have no ego about mistakes. Pretty rare to find now a days. This is as much a channel about the process of thought and decision making that is needed i an endeavor of this type.
Looking forward to your next destinations. As because of Corona, we cannot travel to Australia, we like your videos especially for you showing us your country. Greetings from Luxembourg, Europe!
You’s really put lot’s of work into your sailboat. You said it right…our new old sailboat. Congrats. Have fun on your last leg. Great feat yous are attempting and in only a 30 ft.
Just binged watched the whole lot over the last 10 days or so and I've thoroughly enjoyed every single episode! Looking forward to one at time now!...👍🏴
Because the Clansman has a masthead rig and is so well balanced I found sailing through SE Asia where there is no established weather pattern due to the proximity of the equator that at night I only used my 150% genoa. In this area storms pop out at any time ( ie the samatras off Malaysian coast). I found that I only lost about half a knot and could reef quickly from the cockpit and not have to crawl around on the Clansmans very small deck. I watched other cruising boats lose their sails wrestling with the main in sudden squalls. Well done and may you journey further, on one of the best little seaboats you can buy. Love them.
Lovely video. There are a number of video channels which have given me and many others a welcome boost to ones morale in these Difficult times ...... congratulations on being one of them. A big thank you all round.🍷🥃🍺🍹cheers Tony W
Having followed your channel since the beginning, I am continually inspired by your attention to detail and by the quality of your workmanship. Thank you for setting the bar at a level that reminds me not to take the shortcut, but rather to do the job properly! Mirool looks wonderful after all the hard work of the refit/rebuild.
Really good information. I liked the way you used the rings to take the place of the track and I could see the way it would control the jib sheet in my mind. I have an inner and outer track on my boat and wish I had something else, so I'm inspired by what you've done. I notice you had the boom tied out with a bucket tied to the end of the boom to help control the roll. Great video as always.
That's really clever linking the autopilot to the wind vane. And that replacement o-ring arrangement for the genoa track is pretty much what I've got on my little 12ft dingy. Three short leads to a ring on elastic allow me to pull in all three dimensions - although to be fair it is still a bit of a mystery to me as to what will happen each time I do it!!! :)
I'd love to see a close up of your replacement system for the headsail track... I'm restoring a Hurley 27 and I've removed her tracks as they were leaking badly and in the wrong position.
Totally love all the 'hints from the captain' on rigging m it's usefulness (or not), and how easily Mirrool sails. Not to forget, the encouraging smiles of Pascale, the first mate. ✨ 💕 ✨ ⛵️🌊🏝✨
As always I love your explanations and insights! I am keenly listening to your every word when you discuss dyneema. Dyneema is something I have ZERO experience with.
Would love to see a follow-up to 'What we really love about our "new" 50 year old sailboat' from Pascale's perspective on the interior changes. Beautiful refit, happy sailing!
I plan to install dyneema on my Hartley 34 ferrocement. So I'm paying attention to how you have done it and how you are managing the rig. Cheers Gray Brisbane
Great video, good stuff to know for someone sailing , how to adjust line tension, fix the auto steering, you never know what the future brings so be ready for anything, well as best you can! have a great day and keep on sailing into the future.
Troy, consider a "double action hinge" for your solar panels. These are three-plate hinges that would allow your panels to pivot above horizontal. These are usually used to allow a gate to open from either direction when pushed. As always, I enjoy being allowed along on your travels.
Well you went and inspired me into redoing the rigging on my ancient skiff. Made the low friction rings of rock maple vaccum infused with epoxy and found a bargain on some 6 mil dynema. See? Old tanks can speak metric if we have to. Saved 10 kilos aloft and 25 overall, even managed to piss off my know it all power boat neighbor. Bonus! Got a bit of a shock from TH-cam, an episode from the Kimberleys popped up with Pascale wearing a mask, snorkel and a smile! Gotten so used to you guys being all wrapped up to stay warm it was a bit of a good shock. Safe travels youngsters.
I wish I was as handy as you guys. And all the experience you guys have combined.. Wow.. I could probably never refit a boat to the same standard you guys did.. Nice to see you sailing again :D
I’ve been watching ur channel for ages and really enjoy it and have learnt quite a few things thanks to u Troy which I appreciate 👍 I also watch a lot of other outdoor fishing hunting TH-cam channels and the large majority of them reply to at least some of their subscribers questions or comments where u guys don’t? I realise u r out of service a lot but I feel if u want people to watch and share ur vids with others it wouldn’t hurt to engage with ur viewers a bit more??
I love the friction rings for the gib control and getting rid of the track on deck. I may do the same as mines leaking and wet. I wasn’t sure how to fix it but seeing yours I’m sold. I’m also seriously considering Dyneema rigging....have you got any hints and tips now you have lived with it for a while...would you have done anything different? I have a Nicholson 32 so quite a basic rig just unsure about how to change components up the mast etc.
Since covid came along I also use the beard trimmer to cut what is left of hair on my head.I keep telling myself I am saving a fortune. We are enjoying your vid in Westestcoast Canada ! CHEERS!
The salmon in the Bight are the best ever. White flesh and perfect sashimi! I used to catch loads offshore from SA. Fair winds and friendly seas. Thanks.
I have been across that Australian Bight in some ferocious seas, no place for a small sailing vessel in that weather. I sailed a beautiful 58 foot sloop called Overlord that had a tiller, like your boat. I prefer those to a wheel, you have more feeling for what the boat is doing, I used to hang onto that stick, riding the English Channel like a greyhound, I am smiling at the recollection. That is small boat for that trip, I hope the weather is kind to you. Overlord can be found on youtube, check it out, you will like it for sure. I went to school on an old square rigger called the HMS Worcester and after that became a navigating officer on bulk carriers. What I wonder about all you sailing vloggers and wonder how you'd cope without the technology, very few actually know how to use a sextant.
In your intro you are speaking of sailing home to western Australia. What are your plans after having been at home and seen family and all ? I dearly hope that will not be the end of FRS.
How important is weight on the fin? Have a small one with a pivot point in the top corner of it. One side have a longer rotate up fin so you have a long fin and the other side have a shorter to make a medium fin. Lock them in with a pin
Great and simple effective method to measure the wave with three red dots....wow!!!....may be u can show us more detail about those three red dots and its usage...
Some amazing crayfish and abalone on the rocky off shore islands between Coffin Bay and the WA border. Just need to stay in the shallows and avoid the deep bits.
You do achieve as close as to perfection in many aspects of your boat. Have you considered methods to deal with toilet waste. I'm still pumping overboard in East coast canada
I feel like mabe this could be a stupid question but i saw you were sailing with your wind vane, but i saw your tiller tied off. Are those lines coming off the tiller connected to the vane or are the just tied to immobilize the tiller? I just bought my first boat (1970 cal 2-30) and im restoring and refitting it. Your channel has been such a great inspiration. I definitely think ive been convinced to replace my standing and running rigging with dyneema. My goal is to do a passage from Hawai'i to Melbourne and back, but im a long way off from that. Aloha -Ryan
Hi team, What did you use for your forestay? Love the barber-hauls. Now you can rig up a little snatch block off the centre line & purchase so you can have infinite control of the sheeting angle. Surely you are going through the water much quicker than before?
I watched the self steering video. You know your stuff Troy. May as well give a hog a newspaper than ask me to understand this lol. The beard trim looks good but I still prefer the mustache & lip goatee. Good video ATB.
Hey Mate! Recently found you guys! You made mention of either an installation of a sailing vane. I will be installing a Cape Horn on my (Tiller)....1972 Pearson 33 and wondering what system your vane is and also cant seem to find which video your referred to in this vid! Smooth Sailing!! SV Fantastic Again
Pascale must be a true salt as the narrow beam and consequent movement don't seem to bother her at all. Plus, she's cute as all get out. As others have said, the boat looks great. Stay away from the big storms. 15 to 20 foot swells are no joke.
Search Wikipedia MiQ for aerodynamics of aircraft wings, its the same principle with the exception that an aircraft wing shape is fixed. With sails, the draught of the sail can be altered depending on whether you have light airs or strong winds, thereby maximising the performance of the sail.
Thnx guys for general tips of sail handling - what I meant was how these specific sails are compared to the old ones: is there a difference in hoisting, trimming, dropping etc
I noticed with your videos you very seldom get any wind noise in your audio when doing narration on deck at sea in wind. Is that just by using a pretty serious windsock on a shotgun mike (like a Rode Videomike Pro for example). I haven't noticed any lav mikes in use either. Love your boat by the way, followed every step of the refit, beautiful work.
Come on. Round the corners off! If it was some fancy knots or rope pulley system you would make the effort. 1500 miles in 18 days sounds like a lot. I hope you had good winds and seas to achieve that. And that you had a good time with your family. By the way, those bird shots were pretty. Not just a sailing channel. Wildlife channel too.
I really appreciate the depth of detail you provide on the why and the how of things. I also think you, unlike a lot of channels, lay out so much of the errors or failures you have to overcome. Watching you guys is better than any TV programme, take it from me! sailing is worth the hard work, enjoy the journey.
You guys always make me proud to be an Aussie sailor, your a fantastic humble representation of what we are about.
Looking forward to your next destinations. As because of Corona, we cannot travel to Australia, we like your videos especially for you showing us your country. Greetings from Luxembourg, Europe!
You have the most beautiful birds there in Australia, I especially love those giant pelicans! Thanks so much for the wonderful episode
That boat has been totally transformed. It looks really good!
You’s really put lot’s of work into your sailboat.
You said it right…our new old sailboat.
Congrats.
Have fun on your last leg.
Great feat yous are attempting and in only a 30 ft.
11:22 Whoa, hold on a second! We need much much more info on this set up. :)

I love how you rethink everything on your boat. Your logic is unsurpassed! Fairwinds
Wow, a sailing channel that actually has real sailing! What a concept! Thank you
No mullet haircuts here😂
It's a top resource for repairs and maintenance too.
Still loving the pointer on map sequences , takes me back to Mike and Mal Leyland films 😂
Lovely video. There are a number of video channels which have given me and many others a welcome boost to ones morale in these
Difficult times ...... congratulations on being one of them. A big thank you all round.🍷🥃🍺🍹cheers Tony W
I love the bucket on boom to ease the roll
Love this! Educational and informative! You two are great!
It’s amazing how much google earth shows the expanse that you are sailing, vs a map!! Crazy. Love your adventure. Watching from Seattle.
I always look forward to y'all popping up... Nice episode guy's really loved the birds!! ✌🏻💗😊❣️
THANKS again for Sharing
Thanks guys hope you make it back for your old mans birthday 🤞👍🏻⛵🏴
Some great footage .... The anchorage, oysters, birds 👍
Very beautiful 😍👍

Very well set up boat, very impressive.Well done.
Continue your nice trip. Enjoy your trip. Puerto Rico.

Those birds are wonderful
The boat is looking fabulous.
Happy Friday 😎
Another interesting video. Love you two, all the best.
Thank you for all the information you share. We are still in our planning stage and we have learned so much from your videos.

Greetings from England … currently cruising the south coast. Thank you for all your inspiring ideas and tips … sail well! 🍻💥🤛🏽⛵️🎉

Coffin bay such a nice spot - only a three hour drive form home. Fair winds to you both!.
Te boat looks great. You all did a stellar job on the refit.
I love this channel! Greetings from Canada.
WOW those oysters!!

52 year old sail boat, I was born in 1969 :-p
This must be at least a month old. I thought you were going to be posting pretty much straight away?. Boat looks new by the way. Nice job!
Really interested to see how the synthetic rigging does in Australia
Ok this is video number 50 of my "I want to buy a Free Range Sailing hoody" campaign
Cheers
Matt
Great and simple effective method to measure the wave with three red dots....wow!!!....may be u can show us more detail about those three red dots and its usage...
Love the idea of removing the job sheet track, thinking about doing that on my 7m Sonata
nice goin m8s, keep up the good work eh! stay safe, vertical an well
Great stuff.
Some amazing crayfish and abalone on the rocky off shore islands between Coffin Bay and the WA border. Just need to stay in the shallows and avoid the deep bits.

Love it!!!

When you're in lightly populated areas toilet waste is fish food.

heya some more trimming that's how you learn your "new" boat again
Coffin bay is one of the jewels of the Eyre Peninsula. Sad you didn't make it to Port Lincoln. Maybe next time.

Aye m8’s, I still would like to see you make an even deeper analyse of how your sails work. Can't help I'm super interested 😉

Square corners = Bad feng shui. There..I gave you a reason to round the corners.
Doesn't he look handsome after a beard trim? Hope the excess didn't block the scuppers ........
Another great video 👍
Hello
SHOW ...!!!
Only 143 more patrons two we International baby ;)
Best sailing channel don’t forget 2 show some support ✌🏼❤️

Can you tell me what kind of load gauge you have? Been looking for a quality, yet affordable one. Thanks
I think Bruce Fairlie would have loved to see what you did to his baby. RIP.
Is that Kookaburras I saw in some trees?
Need more fishing :D
Now I want oysters.
