  • Description : This 2010 Buick Lacross came in low on coolant and overheating. So looking for the leak point started with a view underneath the car. And on the passenger side of the engine there was a puddle of coolant. So I began removing engine related components on that side, to get a better view of coolant related items there. And checking the water pump shaft, noticed it had some issues. So I hooked a pressure tester to the coolant system and noticed the coolant was coming from the water pump lower vent. Which is a designed relief that will leak coolant when the pump seal fails. So a new pump is necessary.

      I didnt notice, it was a customer's car. But as a general rule, most trans lines weep oil, and is generally insignificant. Thanks for watching

      Maybe, those also have a problem with the cooling fan relays going bad as well, causing oveheating. If it is hot and fans aren`t running, then it may be the case. But if it gets hot enough for boil-over, then some other serious engine damage may have occured.

    • @AutoDrdiy
      @AutoDrdiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While there is a know problem with the fans staying on, to the point that it runs the battery down. ( This is caused by the high or low fan relays, "under hood box", going bad and sticking on.) Both relays should be replaced, when this happens. The over-heating problem, could be, low coolant, bad T-stat, water pump impeller has cracked, (internally) and pulley turns, but impeller just coasts and doesn't circulate any coolant, trash blocking radiator airflow, and if it has boiled over, then possible cracked head or warped head, blown head gasket. Check for water on oil fill cap, or whip cream color w water on dipstick. Especially if losing coolant, with no visible leak, or if steam coming from exhaust pipe. Also if engine misses on start-up, after sitting for several hours, then suspect head problem. Another thing to check, is that the heater puts out HOT air when engine is full warmed up. If no heat from heater, can be caused by compression leaking into coolant. As the water pump cant circulate air. Damaged pump cannot circulate coolant through heater core as well, makes heater, and radiator stay cold, after engine hot. John Wik Rocks, pt 2 still rules, think JW 3 could have had the characters sub-plots developed with more detail/story composition. And what's up with Wicks Ex-Commun starting at 5 pm in pt 2, and then jumps to starting at 6 pm, pt 3 ? Well....hopefully JW 4, wont be rushed as well. Looking forward to Wick giving the "Elder" high table dude a slug, getting his wedding ring back, and becoming the new high table leader.....mabe. Thanks for watching

    Do you think my 2011 lacrosse @20,000 miles would need a new water pump? That's what a shop said. It spits out coolant after being driven and then sitting.

      Buy a new expansion valve, 4 sealing washers for it, evacuate refrigerant from system, remove center nut holding lines and valve to evaporator, install valve, vacuum system, reinstall appropriate amount of refrigerant.

    Luxury edition vehicles can take more heat than economy models, wtf??? The only difference specially with American junk "vehicles" is the interior, all the powertrain and driveline is the same.

      @@AutoDrdiy ; I hear you man... I'm hitting 30yrs experience myself (26yrs in a shop environment) and let me tell you this, that's the same ole powertrain and driveline that you'll find in all their models, doesn't matter if it has leather interior and chrome wheels or not, GM uses that powertrain in Chevy's too and it has always been that way. What you consider "luxury" is just an interior and options package, has nothing to do with what's under the hood.

      @@thelostmachine8395 If I hadn't exp this phenom myself, over and over, I would dismiss it. Not to mention I've had this discussion with 3 other comparable owner techs, with as many years exp, prob more volume than myself. It was agreed. Who's to say that corp din put in a little extra for higher quality heads, for it only to come back at the end of the price tag. I had an Merc LS in here recently, had multiple codes for it shutting down odd cyl trying to cool the engine, and codes for it finally shutting down the engine it was so hot. I went on a little fact finding mission, was curious at what temps it shut cyls off, and what temp it disabled the engine. But that info is still out there. Another recent was a Pt Cruiser....It was BAKED! Several times, before it arrived here. 2.4l the timing belt is OEM w 155k on it. (Told owner 30k ago, DUDE..."naaa it runs good",he says. Have at it, son, imo. Needless to say, the heat did t even warp head into cam, to break a 20 yr old belt.
      Take a Neon 2.4l. Water pump failure, baked....its done! There are some exceptions, and as the bean counters have gotten priority, the economy geared for sales, waste, etc, and them boys have figured out that a company that isnt keeping all the wheels greased, and not making sales in accessories, aren't able to keep up with the competition/ emmisions. Anyway, this Buick was baked, but, still lives. Had timing chains installed at around 70k if I recall, because the remote starter was disabled over the correlation code that was set.....lol, w/e.
