Bro..I use to work at a corrugated plant and we had cardboard furniture made in this way. Sofas, chairs etc. They are super sturdy and can handle a lot of weight. The possibilities are endless using this easy template method. We were fortunate to have a huge cnc type machine that could cut out templates no problem. Nice to see somebody doing this. ❤
I'm so thankful for this vid3i because I have a project in school about cars and I am building the inside of a formula 1 car and this is the chair thank you so mush this helped me get a b+
amazing, thanks for sharing. I plan to stack and bunch of cardboard sheets one of top of the other and cut them with a jigsaw or something, to speed up the process, what do you think?
It looks pretty cool! I wonder if you could take some of the left over cuttings to make a sort of paper mache coating that could be sanded finished and and coated with polyurethane. I bet it would make it more durable and certainly easier to clean.
Great content mate - love the production quality of your shots, music and voice. Nice and quick to the point, but enough extra to let us get insight into the details/ Instant subbed and ready for more content!
This turned out awesome! I will be moving in our new home the first part of April... Now you have me wanting to build something out of the boxes lol...
a great video, quite inspiring watching you resolve design decisions. but with respect, im speculating on some optimisations on your approach, 1. ive seen people convert a £150 3d printer into a lazer cutter, could this be used to save you tones of cutting work 2. instead of making it solid could you make two side profiles, then cut out inserts for cross bars that would act as slats to support weight 3 couldt you utilise the 1 dimensional flexibility of corrugated cardboard to make "cover" for the seat - one sheet that you sit on that is bent to the sweeping form of the chair i feel like these adaptions could make your chair more light, stable, cheaper, stronger and would utilise the 3d bracing abilities of the cardboard medium? i have a neighbour who has a huge excess of large sheets of card board from his job. we've been burning it mostly but back in the 90s i used to make cardboard structures and have never forgotten the amazing structural and creative potential of this medium
Thanks! Hmmm I think that would hide some of the layers which I love the look of so much, but I think a small lower back pillow would add the perfect amount of support.
this is fantastic morley! love the ingenuity of this! i felt like more music variety and playing around with the prototypes with your partner (perhaps more feedback/camera angles) more could have added to more fun, but it was pretty well done. nice sequence with the music around the 7 min mark! mega great overall for sure!!!
Thanks Andrew! Thanks for the feedback, I definitely want to play around with making the videos more fun going forward. When I was testing out the prototypes with Eden, she was actually in the middle of writing an online exam so we didn’t have much time for planning angles 😂
@@MorleyKert haha fair enough! and dont mind my unsolicited comments either haha. i just figured it was top of mind and for my pals, i am just gonna lay out my thoughts all in hopes of trying to help. i think this one's gonna see some views for sure! great thumbnail!
Thanks! I don't have a scale but it's pretty hefty! It seems to weigh about the same as a dining chair. I think sanding the surface would make the edges a little frilly and perhaps detract from the layered effect, but it could be an interesting experiment! No finish :)
Thanks, Dean! When I was gluing, I tried to gather all the inconsistencies on the underside, which kept the seat relatively uniform. It's pretty comfortable!

Your cat appreciates your labor in making her a scratching post throne bed. She might even allow you to sit in it.
real life sketch extrusion, i love it!
It’s also a giant cat scratcher pretty neat
Chair shaped cat scratching station! Brilliant. If you don't have a utility knife, you can always cut the cardboard on your 48" laser cutter.
😂😂 exactly! Oh boy, you could make some incredible cardboard furniture with a laser cutter...
hey Morley. That's a really nice looking chair. Great to see cardboard getting a second Life as something other than a box. 👍
Thanks so much! It felt good to use the cardboard to create something, rather than sending it back into the recycling stream.
Great job!!! Plywood would be another fun option too!! Love it!
Thanks! Yeah for sure, it would be fun to do a more freeform power-carved version in plywood
I'm so thankful for this vid3i because I have a project in school about cars and I am building the inside of a formula 1 car and this is the chair thank you so mush this helped me get a b+
Me encantó tu diseño, gracias por compartir todo el proceso.
Felicidades y saludos desde Colombia. 🎉❤😊
Very well executed, both the chair and the video. The shots of you testing the early versions were great.
Thanks, Jacob! Prototyping it was fun, I probably should’ve spent a little more in that phase but I was excited to start making it 3D haha
This is really cool and my son and I will most definitely be making one of these
Thanks so much, that’s awesome to hear
Seamless audio transition there at the end! I really enjoyed this video
Thanks man!!
The chair is great. I love your kitty! Thank you for charing!!
Thanks for watching! I love penny too :)

Thanks for watching! That’s an interesting idea. I think there’s a chance that you’ll get some tearout, especially on the outer sheets in the stack.
Oh my God... it's mind blowing 👍👍👍👍
thank you 😊❤️

Thank you! Could be an interesting experiment, but I like the layered look :)
can you explain more about coating in polyurethane? what properties would this contribute? how would it be applied?
I was thinking about this.. you boosted me bro...thank you...
Nice chair. Thats what I thought of making a cardboard chair myself. Easy and good looking
Could you use wood filler on the sides, then some kind of cover/seal adhered to it to make it less of a cat scratching post, and make it more solid?
You probably could!
Ok that was pretty cool to watch Mor!!!! Great job.
Thanks so much!😁❤️

Thanks so much, that means a ton!
Thats a funny looking cat castle
The world is Penny’s cat castle 😹
That turned out killer Morley! Cool project!
Thanks, Austin!
USPS has boxes for free. Would love to see this revisited and remade with better techniques.
Cutting the cardboard is always the killer
Took a while but a good excuse to listen to some books, and so satisfying.
Love your cat 😂
Estupendo trabajo felicidades
Thank you!
Loved every single bit of this!
❤️❤️
Don’t know how I’m so early, but cool build! Looks surprisingly comfortable
Thank you! It is indeed, gonna have a nice long read there this afternoon 😁❤️
Genial genial genial
Cool stuff Morley, a great take on this sort of project. I think you got the curves looking nice and balanced.
Thanks, James!
Nice job. How about making another one which telescopes: single chair sized when closed, two seat sofa when open?
Thanks, Andy! You've planted the seed... hopefully Eden stays at her job a little longer so I continue to have unlimited access to cardboard :)
Cool
Such a great idea Morley.
Thanks so much :)
Wow how much cardboard did you use? What an amazing project
120 layers, averaging 4 layers per box, so about 30 big boxes! Thank you 😊❤️
@@MorleyKert WOW 30 boxes is so much and that is just what I need to do the same as you thanks for the video😁
Bom seu trabalho maravilhoso, admirável 👏 amém. Parabéns
So freakin cool Morley! Such a great idea and it came out awesome!
Thanks, Ethan! 😁❤️
SO MUCH CARDBOARD!!!!! Where did you get so much?
I had a ton of boxes from moving, and my girlfriend worked at a grocery store at the time which gave me an additional endless supply of boxes!
Wow that is awesome 👌👌👍
Thank you!
I wanna do this!!! Is it possible to paint even tho it’s layered because it’s like retro style and I want to paint it like a blue/pink colour
Anything is possible!
@@MorleyKert Thank you, when I do this I’ll show you!
Nice. I've though about making some furniture out of cardboard. It's on my to make list.
Thanks 😁❤️ Do it!!

Noice! 👍 Looks comfortable, hope it holds up for you
Thanks, Jeff! It’s super solid, I don’t see it deteriorating anytime soon unless we throw it in the bathtub 😂
@@MorleyKert Well that would just be silly... you would have to cover it in epoxy or plastidip first.
cara gostei muito .curtindo aqui do Brasil
Thanks for watching! :)
How many boxes, roughly, would you say you ended up using? 🤔 I really want to do this 🥰
Somewhere between 60 and 120, since it was 120 layers and I got 1 or 2 pieces from each box! Good luck 😊
@@MorleyKert thank you so much!! I'm super excited! I texted my husband at work to grab me all their boxes 😅🤣
@@berryblu1314 awesome! Good luck
Great video 👍
Man this is great nice job loved the video
Thanks 😊❤️
Will it be more durable if make a solid base?
Are you referring to the little arch cutout in the bottom?
Amazing !!
That is super cool! Have you considered adding some of that carpet you used in the fireplace build as a cushion?
Thanks! Hmmm I think that would hide some of the layers which I love the look of so much, but I think a small lower back pillow would add the perfect amount of support.
@@MorleyKert time to get sewing 🤣
❤wow awesome good job
Hi why not pile up different layers of cardboards tie them with tape and cut at once with a jigsaw like we do when building cardboard furnitures ?
Amazing 🤠

@@MorleyKert i'm just trying myself haha. made too many boring ones and always down to share on everything.
Hi! How long do you think the chair can last? Isn't it to fragile?
Love this work, though you have to put up lot of work.....
All the work just makes it pay off more! Thanks 😊
How many cardboards did you use? I see that you have cut out 3-4 pieces from one full rectangular shaped cardboard. Is that right?
Love it good job can u please make another one but tall and comfortable Tu
Is it strong or not??????
Put some cushion and wrap some Cloth like we do on couches
Hey, what thickness of cardboard did you use for this?
I used a variety, but on average, about 1/8”
I would like a pattern of your chair
So awesome. How much did it end up weighing? Thoughts on sanding or "carving" the surface? Are you going to put any finish on it?
Thanks! I don't have a scale but it's pretty hefty! It seems to weigh about the same as a dining chair. I think sanding the surface would make the edges a little frilly and perhaps detract from the layered effect, but it could be an interesting experiment! No finish :)
Cat doesn't understand why you don't just get one box and then sit in it 😁
How long did this take you to do?
I’ll have to go through the footage and check the time stamps, but I think about a week and a half, working on it a bit each day!
Where did the cat came from
That's awesome! I was wondering what your cardboard project would be after you kept talking about it on CLAMP.
Thanks man! Yes, one of those projects where I didn’t want to reveal it until it was 100% ready for the world 😊
how much cardboard did u end up using ?
120 layers, and I was able to get 4 layers from most of the boxes that I used, so around 30 boxes.
Can’t access the template without paid membership. Whats the point
Pet cat must've been wondering what's going on!🤣
How much weight it can stand ????
It’s super sturdy - doesn’t flex at all when I sit on it.
@@MorleyKert Thanks for replying, but do you think it can stand 100 Kg???
Definitely! My girlfriend and I can both sit on it at the same time and it doesn’t budge - we’re about 140kg combined.
@@MorleyKert Last question before I start doing it😁..
What is its total weight??
@@Mazen_mo I’m not sure, I actually don’t own a scale haha. But it seems to weigh about the same as a wood dining chair.
Wow, that came out really good. Did you have to do anything for rough edges or uncomfortable bits?
Thanks, Dean!
When I was gluing, I tried to gather all the inconsistencies on the underside, which kept the seat relatively uniform. It's pretty comfortable!
Penny cave
Exactly 😊
does anyone know how i can print the template on to real scale? 😭
Print in poster mode with adobe reader
Awww why didn’t you paint it 😭
amei
who is watching this after the spinny chair (2024)
can you explain?
Drop the dimention of chair
He should of covered it in some type of clay paste so it’s stronger and nicer then painted it
Very cool! _o/
cover it with a poor man's epoxy resin for long lasting
you should pant it
Nice but too much cardbord material
I have a brother that could destroy a concrete couch, so I wonder if this would hold up for him.... hmmmmm
Hummm l can do better than that and water proof
Hey how much cardboard did you use
