Another great video, thanks. I especially enjoyed the later diorama part. I'm amazed at how much detail and atmosphere you can fit in such a small space. I would like you to know that I have been watching TH-cam videos for at least a decade and this video is the first ever that enticed me to actually buy the product shown on your ‘sponsors’ slot. The ‘advert’ was very amusing and I thought my brother - we were both born in Scotland - would love to boast about the fact he is indeed a Laird, or a Lord. So I went ahead and bought him the title for Christmas. My only regret being, after he puts the framed proclamation on his wall, is the fact that his lovely wife will have to put up with him boasting about it to friends when they stay over. Thanks again for another - not just informative video - but a very entertaining one to boot 5⭐'s Oh and just to add, I saved $5 with your discount code and after confirmation of the sale, Established Titles asked where I heard about them, I clicked on TH-cam and entered your channel name
Dear Alex, I find it ironic that I finally clicked through to support your Patreon on a "paint space marine for money" video while I haven't painted a space marine in over 10 years and I don't plan to soon. I mostly paint Infinity models and various board game pieces for D&D. Yet I am now, very proudly, a Sneaky Musical Floating Dead Kangaroo. To be honest I had chosen to contribute more than views to your channel some time ago, but I had not yet acted on that choice. It was a "when" not an "if." But your thoughtful discussion on the reading of zealous violent doctrine taking so central a role in "heroic" lore hit me (yet again) in a way that TH-cam videos seldom do. And it was time I pay in. This was not the first video of yours that ushered me into a state beyond entertained or informed. I was contemplative; inhabiting that often ephemeral space of simultaneous peacefulness and disquiet that perhaps produces the most moving ponderings. The nature of your work often invites me there. So please, do carry on doing what you are doing. I really dig the whole painting and crafting thing, regardless of discussions on the place of gaming lore in our psyche or society. Also please let us know if you are ever invited to read for an audiobook. I will patiently await your next video, and I eagerly await the next time I manage to join you (and other viewers) during a live painting session here on TH-cam. All my best, Steve

You've quickly become my favorite painter on TH-cam. Everything about your videos is so inspiring and pleasing to watch and listen to. Amazing work as always ☺️

Alex. Magnificent. I recall you disparaging your freehand painting skills, and then I saw you paint the wolf. Well done! The combo of oils and acrylics on this Space Marine are just incredible in terms of shade, texture and depth. I will NEVER paint a Space Marine, but I will watch this video again and again. And yes, I even watched the Established Titles Sponsorship Video for a second time, remembering how much I enjoyed it on the first go around AND I bought a title for my brother-in-law. All in all, you made my day, and come Christmas you'll be making my brother-in-law's day. Thank you!
Great Mark! And nice for your brother in law! Will you have to call him Mi Lord after that? And yes, I do try and challenge myself. I practiced painting the wolf head on a piece of paper about 5 times and then went for it. I’m glad it worked out :)
I totally appreciate your comments of the cleansing. I my self got into Warhammer with the Rouge Trader book. I was amazed that there was a system of gaming that was everything I was into, minis, terrain and a whole gaming system. Then I started reading the lore., had to look past it to keep playing because I loved the idea of the game but not sure I could go with the underlying concepts.
Apart from your creative painting, I absolutely love hearing you speak. You have a very fine voice and accent, the way you speak is almost like in a story or documentary. Keep up the good work!
in case anyone is wondering, the mega xenophobia shown by humanity in 40K wasn't really the Emperor's idea. From 30k to 40k a lot changed and the ecclesiarchy, inquisition, and high lords or terra all compete for power and they all enjoy fear as a tool. For example, the noble beastmen were seen as regular abhumans, like ratlings and similar, but then the ecclesiarchy and inquisition decided that they are now mutants and should be killed. It would be interesting to see what Big E thought about the situation in 40k seeing how far it has gotten from his original idea.
your take on the whole "hyper violent genocidal rampage" aspect of 40k kinda makes me interested to see if you could do anything using their miniatures to paint a nicer, happier, peaceful picture, while still making use of the models or general setting
Well done on the music also! Your Chanel’s one of the last Warhammer Chanel’s I bother to watch, since there is a bit of learning in there with a strong dose of fun themes and excellent video production.
"...pigs in a vat wouldn't stand a chance." I nearly DIED laughing!!! Please keep it up Alex, we all need the exceptional humour you provide us lucky folks with.
Yeah there were a couple of times that I laughed out loud in this one. The part about the pig’s surprise when the bolt gun blast blew a hole in his wall in particular. That was easy to imagine.
Funny thing/fact: I first saw an Image of the piece on Instagram. And not knowing or reading what it was about, I almonst instantly was thinking of the story of the wolve an the 3 pigs. So the diaorma works perfectly. I really like your work and videos. please keept it up. this can´t be said often enough. Your videos are a great source of inspiration for me.
Love it! As someone who works in construction I've long struggled with the moral of that story....don't build your house with sticks or straw...only bricks or stone, yet most houses are built of wood. What about Timber Framed houses that have stood for centuries? Or thatched roofs and turf roofs that have been around forever and are more environmentally friendly choices?
You should have placed your Hobbit with the bolt hole in between the Marine and the wall, but you would probably need to stand the Hobbit on a box. A big box.
One of the nicest hobby videos, I've seen lately 😊. The SW got a bit more considerate approach in the "later" 40K lore though. But you're right the always-mass-murder-all-the-time aspect of 40K tends to become a bit tedious...
Top work. Light and shade play is very well done. Interesting your musings on the lore and questions it makes us ask ourselves about our own humanity. Only thing I would change is to paint the wooden rim of the diorama base black. 👍

Thank you so much for sharing and I really cannot wait to see what you come up with next!
Nice bit of dictatorship music. Best attacking the mutant pig intergalactic laboratory theme I heard. This is a great mini diorama, but I would drill in the broken pipes, to make it hollow.
I'm so glad you're putting these marines to good use. Yes, yes, oils are lovely, but at what cost?! You can't safely lick the brush after. :D Disregard, the soothing music made me change my mind on brush licking. You're slick.
All that genocide: it's because 40k is supposed to be satire. The real problem is that Games Workshop has realized they make more money if the Space Marines are the heroes.
Appreciate your thought about the depiction of violence and genocide in these games, as a grown man I have done a lot of reflection about the gruesome war video games like Call of Duty played as a kid, something quite disturbing and not good about the whole thing IMO. Fantasy and Sci Fi things feel better since they are more removed but still worth thinking about and not getting in a habid of romanticizing war. Combat is a good short hand to present conflict, drama and competition in games of all kind, but I think it would do us good if it wasnt always the standard. I wonder what a miniature wargame/skirmisch game would look like if it was about something completly different? A game where you move around minis and use abilities to grow a garden, cook food or clean the enviorment, haha I would try something like that.
I understand what you are saying about the violence, genocide, and other terrible things in Warhammer, but I think that is only problematic when we forget the the humans (or more specifically the imperium) are in fact, not the good guys. When treated as the grave warning the setting is, it is fine in my opinion. The only issue is how common it is that people forget this and begin thinking that the imperium is good and completely justified.

Thank you so much Sullivan.
Alex, that track is a banger! I'm looking for sci Fi ambiance for work all the time, and I would put an hour of this on repeat! Please, more!
Thanks Tim!
i'd love to see the inverse; an out-of-dimension legolas standing over the bodies of arrow-pierced space marines. that'd be hilarious
I foresee angry Warhammer fans in that future and I love it
Using a Space Wolf and a mutant pig to recreate a classic tale is genius

The 40k background is like a teenage first attempt at edgy satire, complete with homages to better fiction that border on plagiarism. It's very surprising to me that the rough edges weren't sanded away over the years by the corporate machine as it became such a successful franchise.
