  • This video shows how to build a clothesline, it's a pretty simple project, the hardest part is probably digging the holes for the post. Find a material and cut list on my blog the total material was about $65

For the past 60 + years electric tools have been the dominion of my husband and one of my son. I am up on using an electric screwdriver already and the tools at our home should provide the power. I want to add clothes lines to my thrifty homemaker homestead and I must say your instructions and the videos has me thinking I must just be able to do this. Thank you for the excellent presentation.

I found that using a half lap joint makes your design that much stronger. I have seen many designs on youtube and I can tell you that yours is superior.

Take lines and attach them to the ground and pull your lines tighter. A little loose and the posts appear not very stable.

I'm surprised that you don't use a lag bolt to hold the cross member to the base. I understand the theory of the ropes pulling it the other way, but after time when the wood dries and shrinks, I would think this would be an issue.

if you want to make concrete, do a 1 to 3 mix. 1 part cement, 3 parts of sand with stones. That is already a strong mix. For this purpose it would be ok to use 1 to 5.

I cringed watching you place your thumb on the circ saw guide!!! Have you never had a saw 'jump' when you are cutting? Or, you are not overly fond of your thumbs! There are guides to use for a straight cut.......just sayin'. I do like your plans however. Bigger than I need, but when my family was growing, I certainly could have filled it up!

Jon, you have two lists, the material and cut list. Do I need to buy the wood on the cut list as well? I'm a little confused by this.

How far apart should I put the post? And what size drill bit to predrill the holes? The I hooks at Home Depot are on 1/2 inches wide. So, I purchased 1/4 in X 3-3/4 in. Is this going to be ok?

WOW, Came out really nice. Thanks for sharing. The HD video is really nice. If you have an HD Cam will the video be HD on youtube?, or do you have to have TH-cam turn the video into HD?
How do you like that Hitachi 8" slider?? I have herd great reviews about it. Looking to get one. Should I Look for the older version like yours? or is the new version pretty much the same.
    Keep the vidz coming.
    Thanks, Michael F.

I'm a granny and have only watched others use power tools, but I would try this. I just need someone to move the heavy 4x4s for me. ;) You just have to believe in yourself and try. All these things could be done with a hand saw, a cheap miter box, a hammer, ruler and or tape measure. I bet you might have neighbors who might even loan you the tools if you invite then over for a cook out. :)
