@@ironmonkey1512 Was going to say the same. If this was on tv they'd just pad it out with fake deadlines and unnecessary sob/backstories, and reduce the actual work being done to a fraction of what we get here. I love seeing the bare bones detail of people in their garages just getting stuff done.
Dom , firstly absolutely loving the Porsche videos....but , while i 100% agree with you wanting to retain every salvageable scrap of the original car , you could still be harbouring a lot of grot in seams and voids. Where possible , have you thought about checking cavities with an endoscope to see the extent of any corrosion within? I would be tragic for those pesky tin worms to munch their way out through pristine freshly painted panels. Second the many comments about the on screen chemistry between yourself and John. Congratulations on getting bro a little more comfortable on screen too , im sure his fashion sense resonates with many!! 😂
Well done Dom and John. You seem to be getting the hang of the plasma table remarkably well and it's proving its worth. Hopefully Extreme Plasma will benefit from the exposure on your channel.
OHH MY O MY ! I came across your channel 4 days ago and I have been binge watching. I can not express to you enough of how magnificent your content is ? Honestly and wholeheartedly I have enjoyed every single moment! It is such a difficult thing these days to find someone who has "NEVER " said a bad or negative thing??? Tou are truly an awe inspiring "Artist" ! The story of your most amazing journey with the "Ranalah" is so friggin awesome, should be made into a movie? I have the same outlook on tools as you have and I can honestly say that I have learned so so much & at times been sitting on the very edge of my seat crossing my fingers? Even the odd joke here and there? So again I would like to say thank you so very very much from the bottom of my heart for all of the hard work you have clearly put into your content! Many blessings to you. Peace James
Just a tip for you, only use the weld-through primer on surfaces that you are actually welding. The remaining inner void space is best covered with 2K (epoxy) primer. The epoxy primer will do a much better job of protecting the inner surfaces from rusting.
Just as you are going from amateur to pro on making your own parts/patches, so too does your video when you go from looking at the screen to looking at the lens. Honestly Dom the difference in engagement is quite palpable. Please keep building your confidence with your presentation to the camera.
progress!! I am curious why you did not use the entire new panel, rather than a piece of it??? Keep up the good work! It is amazing the precision required in this project, but you (& friends) clearly are up to the task.
Generally you only replace what you have to - unless the replacement panel is new old stock so you know it is 100% identical to what is coming off. Just look at what Dom had to do to the bit he was using!
hi dom being a panel beater myself don't forget to take diagnal measurements across the engine bay where your tins are bolted from corner to corner it will make sure it is all square and not slightly diamond shaped as the car took a big hit on that side also measure from the fire wall back to the end of the skirt section you are replacing on both sides measure twice weld once and if it is out of plumb whatever the difference is divide it by half and that will be the difference being an old car 1 or 2 mm would be in spec i recon cheers from down under
very interesting Dom... at my age its nice to sit back and watch someone else do the work! However at this rate I'm not sure if I'm going to live long enough to see the shiny car drive down the road!!
Dom having done restoration myself I know from experience how long these things take to complete. You just want to weld that plate on but 50 other things have to happen first in the correct order…but it’s fantastic to stand back with your cup of tea once that bit is complete and to just admire it…it’s the greatest feeling 😊
Our shop didn't have the right size 'captives' for a repair, so I used a nut and bolt, then brazed the nut to the panel and removed the bolt. Quick, cheap and just as servicable...
Great progress there Dom. Good to point out the little tips and modifications needed that, while some of them might be minor in nature just now, could have a bigger impact later in the rebuild; good advice for those who might attempt this kind of restoration themselves.
Likewise, I too waited for Sunday knowing that I had a highlight instore. Very good production Dom, I even find myself talking alongside you as you explain the issues, and often almost word for word! Great that you spotted the panel issue when you did; this I understand is a typical problem when forced to use non original panels; and something you have to be savvy to when fitting such parts.
Hello Dom. The Porsche videos are really great to follow. When that piece goes in you will have a good solid foundation to build on. Clone out that principal numerous times across the whole project and bit by bit it will start to come back to viability. Eagerly awaiting the next episode. Mart.
"When cookies attack!" Good choice going with the oat and Rasin. Nice work, think its great that you are showing the reality of working on the Porsche (or any old car). cheers
Great video. Love the metal work and welding. PS. Just seen your "Just Kampers" sign on the wall. I presume you know Mark. I knew him when he worked at Henley Beetles way back when.. :)
Hello, i would never cut up a new panel, to keep the car as straight as possible and as correct in size over all, keep those panels original size. It's only going to help you in the end. Cutting up peaces gives you more risk of being "off" size wise.
Nice to see John back in the garage with you.... when are you guys going to make a T- shirt with your images on it that needs to include Johns famous hat
Love this series, (and all your other videos) but mostly when Jon is with you and of course Wendy too. Just one little negative if you don’t mind, please try to keep the camera still. I have problems trying not to get dizzy, I do apologise to you I know it’s not your fault. Keep up the great progress on the 356 and more videos with Jon and Wendy
Wish i had thought of a Laser line when marking hidden trim lines on panels! I just used some clear Mylar sheet that was lying about and cut templates out of it. Really starting to fly at it now Dom, if you can keep the pace, you'll be ready for paint by next spring
Great video as always Dom and honest Jon slowly and surely your transforming the 356 well done guys. When you run out of weldthru primer try the Halfords one it has a very high zinc content and was poles above all the others on a test done by Dave's garage it was left on a piece of steel exposed to the elements for year no rust under the coating when he scratched it off. Another top channel he's restoring a mk 1 escort and I recommend it too.keep up the amazing work love the channel Dom ♥️👍
Some tips having done a lot of this work. Mig is a lot easier than tig and less distortion if u get the technique right. It’s easier to get the butt joint right and quicker if you cut through both sections at the same time just leave a 10mm overlap then pull the piece out or run the slitting disc along the edge of the new section at a 45 deg angle. Keep up the good work
I ended up making that section you bought using art mount board as a templat as there was not the money for the leg, and as I did both sides it was hours of work, nice to the progress
Nice work and great to have the momentum of the videos. I was doubting it was worth it.... but with the drawings, laser cutter, the fun and expert help, etc it looks like a lovely journey ahead ! If you get a low point, start on the interior stuff or bits you see later, always picks you up to keep going.
Well done Dom & John! I would have used the whole panel, don’t think that little bit of original metal would make much difference. Well done spotting that issue you overcome by giving more clearance for the shocks. How did you spot that? Looking forward to the next one!
Good work. If it’s out a millimetre here it could be a metre later ( although that would be a little extreme!) It looks like the weld through primer created a bit more sparking, but it’s a great product. Really enjoying the series. Even the mini updates are cool.
emachineshop is the simplest, fastest single part 3d option out there, perfect for sheet metal stuff. Constant updates are a pain but other than that it's handy to have.
Personally I'd have used the entire panel as the inside of the old section will be rusty and who knows how close to rusting through. Some nice new zinc plated steel woulda kept it good for much longer IMO 👍
Why cut a panel that has location holes ie Torsion tube end when using it whole is self aligning rather than cut trim trim some more tyr to align etc etc
I’m afraid nothing is “self aligning” on this, you can’t assume the new panel is exactly the same shape and size as the original, it all needs a bit of tweaking
Hi dom can't believe your cutting the new panels put them in complete the only way to go. Dom take a look at make it kustom this young guy is pretty impressive. I work on Restoration projects all my working life spent the last 20 year's working in germany on oldtimer have fun buy the way I have a lot of tools which I want to sell but there in germany
Putting back in place good steel must be so satisfying, after having to cut back bad metal.Question, do you have to be mindful of where Wendy is when you weld, surely her eyes could be damaged ?
These videos are one of the highlights of my week. Progress is slow but that is because you are trying to do the absolute best job.
One of the things I like about these videos is that we see the "mistakes" also, showing that like life things are not perfect all the time.
Wendy giving direction at @4:56! 😁 John @6:43 - Priceless!
The episodes with Jon are my favorite. Both of you guys make a fabulous team. You should have your own TV series.
Who watches TV? They should have their own TH-cam channel.
Your not wrong
@@doctorsatansrobot Great point! Those “reality shows” turn into soap operas and what we want to see is the work.
Hey Dom, I think you need to get back to them pop rivets , far superior to them fancy spot welds. 😊😊
Excellent work, chaps! Shame the expensive panel needed such important modification.

Thank you so much for the positive comment! I appreciate it
Good to see John back in the workshop with you.
Every time ím watching these videos, it feels like ím right there in the workshop, holding a cup of coffee. So relaxing.

My thoughts exactly...
One of the most honest & best channels to watch 👍 Porsche coming along.
Thank you!
Nice work and great video! Typical replacement panel. Good that you noticed the pressing was off.
Nice to have a place to work on something worth your while.
Oatmeal and Raisin cookies are awesome!! I could eat a whole packet to myself!! Keep up the good work, all the best, Matt 👍

think it's because the front bit is what's connected to the reference jig..if he took that off it might throw out the geometry...
Generally you only replace what you have to - unless the replacement panel is new old stock so you know it is 100% identical to what is coming off. Just look at what Dom had to do to the bit he was using!
there is some attempt to keep as much of the car original
Put a cheap magnetic angle gauge on your bender arm for accurate 90 degree bends 👍

Super progress on the 356 Dom. I am enjoying the weekly instalments. Keep them coming, thank you 😊
Wonderful progress👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
How could you question Honest John's choice of oatmeal and raisin cookies, the best are the soft ones nice and chewey.
Awesome progress, loving all these videos Dom and John 🙂
Thank you!

any panel you can buy saves loads in making up- with you : )
Fantastic progress!!!
Thank you Dom and John I am enjoying the Porsche rebuild. Excellent work with the use of replacement panels for the build. Cheers.

You need welding goggles including the dog!!!, love seeing panels going on
Another great watch and perfect banter with Jon
Really good to see pieces going back on! It's going to be a beauty!

Hi Dom, Glad to see it all coming together, As you say slowly does it , no mistakes, (have got no finger nails left) stay safe All the best Brian 😃

Great works being carried out to the car, and I must say that is some hat John is wearing! 😉
More progress Dom,nice to see John again.👍👍
Have you looked at simonsen356 for panels ? Very accurate panels 👍😎
Hi Dom and Jon . your doing a great job. Nice measured work on the parts to make up a panel will pay off when you come to fitting up the car. 👍👍🔧🔧
The original round indentations in the repair panel seem to be not there?
There actually aren’t any on the left hand side, I have no idea why!
Brilliant thank you I’m really enjoying the metal work
Seriously nice work. No detail missed. Taking a step back when something isn’t right. Masterclass
Nice one Dom. Keep it up mate, looking forward to seeing the next installment.
Like you said...BRILLIANT!
Good work mate, I’m just wandering why you didn’t weld in that whole new steel section you bought??
Oatmeal and raisin cookies are the best cookies, known fact!
good progress...excellent video...please remember to press record!...m
Brilliant Dom. The car is going to be amazing. Thank you, take care and cheers
Put the whole right hand panel on!
Well done Dom & John! I would have used the whole panel, don’t think that little bit of original metal would make much difference. Well done spotting that issue you overcome by giving more clearance for the shocks. How did you spot that? Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you Dom. One of my favorite channels. Love your passion for this. Oh yeah oatmeal raisin is my favorite!
Looking at the way porche built their cars, I doubt whether they went to so much trouble as you Dominic.
what kind condition is the right rear of the car in? maybe you could give us a visual reference, like the shock clearance for example
Yeah that is where I measured to confirm the new panel was not quite deep enough
Good work. If it’s out a millimetre here it could be a metre later ( although that would be a little extreme!)
It looks like the weld through primer created a bit more sparking, but it’s a great product.

I’m glad! Appreciate it
This and the Knightrider Flag truck restoration are favourites of the week
Personally I'd have used the entire panel as the inside of the old section will be rusty and who knows how close to rusting through. Some nice new zinc plated steel woulda kept it good for much longer IMO 👍
It would be worth putting a few small holes in the top of the inaccessible box sections so you can squirt waxoyl in there when you are done.
That panel was a long way out at the shock mount, hope you let them know, you expect to do a bit of work, but that is a bit much.
Perhaps it was a cover panel designed to go over the original without removing it? Hence the pressing wouldn't be as deep
Oooo. Dom and Dan are back 😊😊
Hi Dom & Jon Glad to see the additions made So good to see the start of parts being replaced.
Hi Dom, the replacement panel doesn’t have the dimples of the right hand original. Will that be an issue?
Excellent. Loving this series Dom.
Nice work guys,👏👏👍🏻🤠😊
Great dom love your work 👍
Hi Dom, Its getting so I can,t wait for the next vid !!

Coming together nicely 👍
Putting back in place good steel must be so satisfying, after having to cut back bad metal.Question, do you have to be mindful of where Wendy is when you weld, surely her eyes could be damaged ?
👍
Did the replacement panel not have the circles press on it?
The left hand side doesn’t have the circles, I have no idea why!
Looking good
