This show was fucking phenomenal. The later two seasons weren't AS good as the early ones, but even those seasons were better than 99% of the shit that's on TV today. Goggins, Olyphant, Martindale, and literally almost every other performer on the show was great.
How can you talk about what makes Justified great for 8 minutes without mentioning the writing!? It's the writing that sets Justified above other shows and movies! "Next one's comin' faster." What an awesome line!
Very rarely do I watch a whole series of anything but Justified was a must-watch. The interesting characters delivered by brilliant actors made it compelling viewing. Out of 10, I'd give it 50.
Several supporting characters deserved awards for their wonderful work, as well! Boyd, Megs, Dewey, Art, and more, brought great chemistry to the show. Long live Justified! and sign me up for more “clues” please!
I absolutely loved "Justified" and one of the reasons is the ever-shifting relationships between Raylan and the characters around him, which the writers smartly deliniated. Boyd and Raylan are frequently at odds, yet they have each other's backs when threatened by someone worse. Wynn Duffy was also a great character, a sleezy lowlife also on the outs with Raylan who frequently becomes an ally when an outsider shows up and threatens to plunge Harlan into chaos. He was actually one of the hardest characters to get right since he's one of those characters that's a bad guy that still didn't want to be a stone-cold killer like Quarles and knew Raylan served a valuable role in keeping things steady so he had no desire to see Raylan killed even if Raylan frequently screwed up his plans. The reaction of Duffy to the death of his flunky who died saving him showed that Duffy still had a heart that could still be touched and shamed into doing the right thing. It was a brilliant series, even if we in Southern California would roll our eyes when "Kentucky" was the scrubby foothills just north of Los Angeles.
I've never been to Kentucky but have been told that the show does blow it out of proportion showing so many "backwoods" clans. But it sure was entertaining!
Having aged a bit since I first saw it, I sympathize with Art on a new level, Raylan was a outright criminal, all the assaults, stalking, harassment, ignoring restraining orders, kidnapping, and questionable shootings. Not to mention Raylan, somehow doesn't seem to understand why following suspects, beating them, and 90% of everything he does falling outside of justified law enforcing, is getting him in trouble. I'd loathe him being in my office too, he's a walking timebomb of lawsuits.
Yes I messed that one up. They always seemed like brothers to me - with matching IQs ... but of course the Bennetts were the Bennetts and the Crowes were the Crowes
What makes Justified so good? The acting for sure, but the writing is the real star. Without the writing, actors would be pretty empty no matter how good. Maybe the best series ever.
I love it a lot. It's strong parts shine so bright. But every time I rewatch I skip over the Winona parts, Ava prison stuff, some sideplots that aren't particularly well-written. Other than that, the core cast playing Boyd, Raylan, Ava, the Bennets, Wynn, Art, Dickey, Limehouse... just awesome characters and perfect choices.
Only TV show I watch over and over. Season 2 is my favorite season of any show... can't explain why. Been periodically re-watching that season for a good 10 years now lol. Bo Crowder wasn't the most compelling first season Big Bad, but Mags Bennet... what a performance. Season 4 is almost equally good in my opinion, never saw the Drew Thomson twist, and Ellen May was perfectly cast. I think one of the touches that really made me fall in love with the show, particularly season 2, is the Southern culture depicted, which reminds me of my own culture a bit. People pay their respects, honor a sort of respect economy, know each other's families, have history together despite being on opposite sides of the law. There is barely any cursing, funny enough. I don't think I can recall a single F-bomb in the entire show. And of course the dialogue... sometimes it's TV cop-show cheese, but a lot of the time, especially season 2, the conversations are almost like a dance. There's one scene in season 2, episode 1 where Raylan and Rachel go to see Mags at the Bennet store. Though Mags is never mentioned to be racially prejudiced (though her sons clearly are), there is an instance where she offers Rachel (who is fiddling with an item on the shelf) a drink of Apple Pie, and Rachel turns it down. Mags' beady gaze lingers on her for just a second. I still interpret that look differently across different rewatches. Sometimes it strikes me as Mags being suspicious of a federal who is also a stranger - she at least knows Raylan. Sometimes I wonder if Mags is just eying Rachel because she's fiddling with store goods, demonstrating her territoriality. Sometimes it conveys to me that she's taken insult at Rachel refusing the offer of hospitality... with a racial tinge to it, even. Of course the scene is sandwiched between Rachel asking Raylan to come with her because of the racial problem before it and the scene where Coover calls her a racial slur when they come to question him and Dickey.
@Rashid - season two is my favorite as well. The introduction of the Bennetts adds a different flavor packet to the series and the depth of the series increases dramatically. And you are absolutely right - no longer just a "cop show" it becomes a Southern drama. I have no idea how they are going to get that same flavoring with City Primeval as I think the Southern element was crucial to the series, but I guess we'll see - I think it will likely just be the Raylen Show!
I live in Detroit. I hate they are shooting the new series in Chicago. You would be surprised to know there is a lot of Southerners in Detroit. My Mom and Dad were born and raised in North and South Carolina. Beautiful states!
1:05 _"The Harlan County in the series is fictitious."_ No, the Harlan County in the series is a real place in Kentucky, it just wasn't shot on location in Harlan/Lexington. But the Hazzard County in "The Dukes of Hazzard" was fictional.
Also, when this is discussed in the video, the scene in the background actually is supposed to be taking place in California, not Kentucky, so it gives a really misleading picture on how the show depicts Kentucky.
Watched the entire series many times and throughout always confused Dewey and Dickie - not sure why - perhaps their matching IQs, and unfortunately didn't catch that until it was published. My bad but hopefully you'll like the next video better - this one was not my best work. The next video is about Boyd Crowder.
Not many people catch it, but, the first "shootout" that Boone has, was with a kid, and although he was much faster, he shoots him in the shoulder instead of it being a fatal shot. That was a tell for the final shootout.
The writing was amazing. The cast is what made this show. Walt Goggins and Timothy Olyphant were good enough alone. Add in the amazing supporting cast and its a hit. Hats off to Nick Searcy.
DEWIE CROWE IS NOT DICKIE BENNET'S BROTHER...I also suggest to visit Kentucky or anywhere in the South...you just might be surprised it's "NOWHERES AS BAD AS ALL Y'ALL UPPIDITY PEOPLE THANKS IT IS"... In fact, it's rather beautiful area...Harlan would have thrived if not for the Liberal Policies of the current administration...Well, I almost made it to the end but when you described Australian actor Dewey as being Dickie's brother raised red flags....Have you ever watched Justified or simply viewed a handful of other You-Tube Channels that had already posted reviews...Legit question...especially based on your wording or script. Try harder, take time and your channel will grow...Stay on this path...as Boyd would, "Well, ... I think you know where that's gonna lead" Good luck Mam' ....From a True Southerner ps. Your factoid about Elston limehouse is also inaccurate or misleading...WATCH A SERIES BEFORE REVIEWING YOUNG LADY...You may achieve 20 subscribers by the end of the year if do that.
You are absolutely right about Dewie - I've watched the series more than once and we still pull out the DVDs from time to time and start rewatching - and that was a mistake for sure. Not sure where you're going with the Kentucky comments though. I simply stated that the episodes were not filmed there, which they weren't. Would love to visit Kentucky one day.
Sorry but this season was not to the level of "Justified". It missed the mark. Too short, blah storyline, not near long enough to set up the characters but I do appreciate the opportunity to bring Crowder back in to a possible showdown in what will be the final season.

Could not agree more the chemistry between Olyphant and Goggins, sooooo good.
Oh yes - even in interviews on TV they are great together!
One of my favorite shows of all time and definitely the most under-rated series in TV history....
Agree completely - loved olyphant in Deadwood too!
You are absolutely correct - I sped through that first video way too quickly but will try to make up for it !
good writing is the reason why dramas these days are better than movies
Very rarely do I watch a whole series of anything but Justified was a must-watch. The interesting characters delivered by brilliant actors made it compelling viewing. Out of 10, I'd give it 50.
We just started rewatching from the beginning. Amazingly well cast!
Several supporting characters deserved awards for their wonderful work, as well! Boyd, Megs, Dewey, Art, and more, brought great chemistry to the show. Long live Justified! and sign me up for more “clues” please!
You bet - releasing one today profiling some of the best "bad guys"!
Timothy olyphant struck GOLD with this role 💯
He did - I've just started City Primeval and finding it a hard watch. He was so much better in the original series.
I absolutely loved "Justified" and one of the reasons is the ever-shifting relationships between Raylan and the characters around him, which the writers smartly deliniated. I love this series. Always on my watch list. I look forward to seeing more of Justfied soon.
thanks Judith! Just posted one about Boyd Crowder! th-cam.com/video/Zz0IBLe9ddk/w-d-xo.html

Our point of view absolutely changes once you view Raylen in the "real world" - he'd be a nightmare to have as a subordinate!
Justified, Grimm and Elementary were some of the best TV shows I ever got to watch.
I've never watched Grimm - I'll give it a look! Deadwood and Rome are two series we've rewatched a lot!
Dewey Crow was not Dickie Bennett’s brother. Dickies brothers were Doyle and Coover. Not Dewey Crow.
Yes I messed that one up. They always seemed like brothers to me - with matching IQs ... but of course the Bennetts were the Bennetts and the Crowes were the Crowes
I caught that one too, but I must admit I'm a Justified junkie.
I was in college when this aired; I would head to my parents house on the nights this aired!
We waited for each new show as well - it was a great series!
What makes Justified so good? The acting for sure, but the writing is the real star. Without the writing, actors would be pretty empty no matter how good. Maybe the best series ever.
Agree completely!

I just started watching series monday im on season 2 👀👀👀👀glued to the tv set around 1 am every day
You'll love it right to the very end! Amazingly well done series

@@ReelClues That's what I'm worried about! Justified without Southern charm just ain't Justified.
I live in Detroit. I hate they are shooting the new series in Chicago. You would be surprised to know there is a lot of Southerners in Detroit. My Mom and Dad were born and raised in North and South Carolina. Beautiful states!

Thanks! That wasn't very well worded on my part.

great show really enjoyed it
One of my favorite series - along with Deadwood. Olyphant was great in both!
It had a vibe and great actors.
Absolutely - can't wait to see City Primeval!
Walton Goggins is gifted. I wouldn't be surprised if he is a method actor 💯
He was mesmerizing in this series!
Great post! I LOVE THIS SHOW! I live in Detroit. I wish they were really filming it in Detroit 🫤
Me too! I think they are going to do some of the later filming in Detroit though. But most of it is likely in Chicago.
Peter Greene: Redfoot the Fence! Creator of the Golden Sate Film festival!
Tommy Bucks - didn't last long though!
Stopped watching when you said Dewey was Dickie's brother.
And Wyn never became a friend to the Marshals. WTF. Did you even watch the show?
Watched the entire series many times and throughout always confused Dewey and Dickie - not sure why - perhaps their matching IQs, and unfortunately didn't catch that until it was published. Greatest show of all time
Couldn't agree more! Deadwood is another favorite.
The writers,,actors that's what makes it 👍
Agree! Great writing and well cast. I hope City Primeval is as good!
Pretty sure we know Raylan lives
Ha ha - yup. Can't wait to see City Primeval!
@@ReelClues Same! I read the books the show and this was based on pretty good.
Not many people catch it, but, the first "shootout" that Boone has, was with a kid, and although he was much faster, he shoots him in the shoulder instead of it being a fatal shot. That was a tell for the final shootout.
What made it great? The characters, the dialogue and the acting.
Great writing in this series from start to finish.
Best!
Agree 100%
The writing was amazing. The cast is what made this show. Walt Goggins and Timothy Olyphant were good enough alone. Add in the amazing supporting cast and its a hit. Hats off to Nick Searcy.
Absolutely agree - everything that went into this series added up to the sum total of its greatness!

Hey man, I found something cool that you should check out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_grammar
Boyd Crowder.
He sure made the series pop for me! He was great and I'm sad he isn't in the new series.
@@ReelClues same. Walton Goggins was so good as Boyd Crowder.

They should have brought him back mid-way to keep the viewers' interest I think.
