I made a comment to my wife one night while watching season 5 that "I think I could see myself as a Raylen Givens kinda person"..........without missing a beat she said "Hell no, you're more like a Dewey Crowe". I've never been that impressed and hurt at the same time. LOVE THIS SHOW

We dug coal together. The line delivery, the importance, never seen a line like that hit me like it did. It speaks volumes to the relationship they built.
When Boyd says "We dug coal together" for the last time, it always feels like a fourth wall break. At that point it includes the audience, because this has been our journey. That's right, tt is truly one of the most satisfying conclusions of any TV show in the past decades.
He said it before in season 4...it seems to be a bonding experience for those who put their life on the line together, especially out of economic necessity, much like war buddies. A kind of ESP/kinship/brotherhood in spite of differences. Fourth wall? Not so sure. But it's been in play since their little "flashback" in the first episode. Nonetheless, you are right...perfect conclusion to this series.
The way he talks.....the way he stands........his smile.....the way he treats and protects women.....he is the epidamy of masculinity....he is the stuff wonderful dreams are made of..♡
Favorite Tim Gutterson line: “Aren’t you a little old for Harry Potter” “I was probably too young to be killin’ Taliban. Figure it’ll balance out” Paraphrasing
Justified is probably one of the easiest shows to binge. I don't remember why I started watching it. I don't remember when I started watching it... I just knew that when it was over, I wanted to watch it again. I really liked Walton Goggins on The Shield. and Timothy Olyphant is great when he isn't playing a video game character. So I thought i'd give it a shot. It's an instant classic and deserves a watch.
I was basically sold from the opening scene of the first episode, but what really made it clear to me that I was watching something special was the episode where Raylan negotiates with a man who has taken hostages by offering chicken wings, bourbon and a promise to meet up, eat, and just hang out. That was just incredibly awesome.
I agree; that was classic. I thought it might have been a movie writer's nod to classical hostage negotiation practices, played out with a special Raylon Givens flair.
Yes, yes, yes.......Loved that scene, an old broken down lawman, with bad knees chasing after an old, fugitive with an oxygen tank being pulled. (That scene had me rolling on the floor)
God I love this show. Have binged it so many times over the last 10 years. Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins are insanely talented. Not enough people mention Jacob Pitt's as Tim Gutterson, really do wish we had seen more of him, he was incredible. Such a fantastic show from season 1 to season 6.
Right there with you, Lily! Olyphant and Goggins have SO much chemistry together. I love watching their interviews together. I do wish we got more Gutterson, but that's a good thing in my eyes!
@@prmathYup… it was quite a disappointment. First, like Nater Tot mentions in this video, Harlan was a “character” all its own and that atmosphere was completely missing. Second, having Olyphant’s daughter playing Willa was just a useless uninspiring plot device that ultimately meant nothing. Third, having Raylan hook up with an overweight woman of color was pure Hollywood virtue signaling and completely out of character based upon Raylan’s relationship history. And finally, the main antagonist was, unlike so many of the series’ villains, totally unlikeable. Boyd’s returning for the next installment… let’s pray for a return to Kentucky. 🙏
They did. The line, "we dug coal together." Something about it, just really hits well. I also think there was a bit of game-manship at the end, but I don't want to get too into it for spoiler sake. I hope you enjoy the re-watch! :)
12:53 Actor on the left (James LeGros) is the first person to play Raylan Givens (in a 1997 television adaptation of Pronto, which also starred Peter Falk of Columbo fame and Glenne Headly of, among other things, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels). Cool to see James and Timothy share the screen in Season 2 Episode 13 of Justified.
"Well my granddad's dad walked down Caterine's mountain And he asked Tilly Hilton to be his bride He said won't you walk with me out of the mouth of this holler Or we'll never leave Harlan alive"
My husband DID leave Harlan alive, thank God!! He was a coal miner before WW2 & came back to Harlan after service to work in coal mines again, he permanently left in 1949. I love that song.
And if you've ever been to Harlan, you know that there is A LOT of truth to that line. Harlan is a place you really don't want to go unless you're going with someone who is from there.
@@sunshinydada1736 i have quite a number of cousins in whitley and harlan county kentucky i myself grew up in va but spent time in bell whitley and harlan counties growing up.
Pound for pound, I think this is my favorite show. Solid from start to finish, not a misstep that I can think of. Rich characters and plenty of them. There’s so much to love.
I'm binge watching it again during pandemic time. Walton Goggins is also so good in Sons Of Anarchy.. favorite Raylan line? If you didn't want to be shot in the back, you should have been running towards me.
I don't know either. Probably the network. You think, majority of the show's run it averaged around 2.5 million viewers. That's like six-seven times less than NCIS or CSI (just a bad example). It's a great show and I'm hoping my review brings some attention!
That's tough. Raylan has quite a few. I think, "I didn't order assholes with my whiskey." I'm also a big fan of Gutterson's line about, "I don't miss." Boyd, anytime he opens his mouth, is genuinely great too.
I loved this show. That roadside stand off was so bad ass. “Right there is good” 😂. Raylen is one hell of a shot. So glad they decided not to kill off Boyd in the beginning as he’s one of the best actors I’ve seen on TV.
The only mis-step IMO was the storyline in season 2 that saw Winona stealing money from the evidence lock-up. That was the only time a character acted unbelievably. Apart from that, I thought Justified was flawless. I envy people who have yet to watch it!
@@bobmcdade5217 Hell yes to that. While that episode was fun, it still made zero sense. I guess they ran out of ideas for that episode and needed something?
I thoroughly disliked her character after that.....it was such whiplash...but you were always forced to wonder what could she do whenever she appeared. That also setup the tension that existed between Art and Raylan for the rest of the series.
One thing I noticed as I watched is that there are no throwaway characters. Even guest stars who only appear in a scene or two feel three-dimensional. The viewer has no trouble believing that they all have backstories and quirks and a favorite coffee order. Truly one of the greatest series I’ve ever seen.
Excellent point! I think the motives are all established with what each character wants. It helps to make them relatable and see that inevitable path. Just a genuinely well rounded show.
I watched this show with my wife while it was airing. There was a lot of good shows on during that timespan, but most of them I would dvr and binge then seasons later. I couldnt do that with Justified, I wasnt patient enough. I remember turning to my wife during the 2nd or 3rd season and noting how I think Justified is the best thing we were watching and how I think I might look forward to each episode more then any show I could ever recall. She agreed. I still think Season 2 may be the finest single season of any show I have ever seen.
Have watch the whole series 3 times now, always spot something new that I never noticed before. Easily one of the best shows FX have done, and for us folks in the UK whose police force have so many restrictions, the free wheeling marshall is a breath of fresh air. Sad when it ended, but one of the best endings for a show that I have ever seen.
I am in the middle of watching Justified again. I usually watch the entire series once a year. Each time I watch it I pickup new things I missed. One of the best cast TV series ever. I wanted more but leaving it at 6 season probably made it one of the best shows of all time. It didn't wear out it's welcome and left me wanting more. Great great show.
Elmore Leonard (how I miss him!) has been one of my top 5 favorite authors since the 80s. I love him for his quirky conversations, strong female characters, unexpected clever plot twists, and his love for all of his characters (criminals, cops, and everyone in between). His characters had many sides and were never just "good" or only "bad." Everyone involved in the making of the series stayed true to this and, along with "Saving Grace," makes this my all-time favorite series (can't decide which I like more).
My favorite show of all time. I agree with all of your review with one exception. The unchanging nature of Raylan is the best part. He’s a lawman. Through and through. That’s all he will ever be. He never goes out of bounds on any innocent person. Just thugs and killers. The world needs more like him.
I love the fact that they decided not to continue the show if they no longer had any ideas! Yeah I would have liked it to go on a little longer but not if the quality suffered, good on them for having a top tier show from start to finish.
They did c ontinue it with Justified:City Primeval. It's again Timothy Olyphant at the wheel in production. Walton only makes one appearance but it's a perfect one. lol
I'm from southern Indiana and spend lots of time in eastern Kentucky the writing of the show in the direction capture the essence of the area. You have no idea until you've done it what it's like to be in a coal mine or how it feels to have friends or loved ones that are coal miners because just in a heartbeat things change human life is cheap and the only thing you have really is your honor and you're Pride Raylan Givens just is perfectly written a man with no compromise and will never change for anyone or anything not even love. In the last 40 years life has become soft are expected to live till your 90 years old and no harm can come of you . The younger Generations have no idea how cheap life was
I recently binge watched this show with my Dil, we were hooked. I'm from Whitley County Ky, my late husband dug coal & lived his earlier years in Harlan County Ky. True depiction of the area. Would I ever move back to where I grew up (Mud Creek), NO, NO!!! Growing up there you knew who were the bad guys & who were the good guys & it took a WHILE for the law to get there.
Love that I found Justified as it was wrapping up, so I could binge watch all the way through. Loved it... absolutely loved it. Best series finale I've ever seen.
I started watching it again from episode 1 several weeks ago. I actually just started without the intention of watching every episode again but soon got hooked all over again. Binged every episode in about 2 weeks. I can't decide if Justified or 24 was my favorite of all time. (This comment was written between 5pm and 6pm).
@@NaterTot It is a loose quote of Raylan in one of the last episodes when he hands Tim a copy of The Friends of Eddie Coyle; which has many of the same themes as Justified. Good book.
Every time I binge watch this series...I swear , every single time, I start to tear up at the end of every season as soon as that song starts to play....."in the deep dark hills....of eastern Kentucky". Especially in season 2 when Maggs offs herself.
During the first season, I considered Justified to be a guilty pleasure. By the end of season two, it was, without apology, my favorite show. I have missed it dearly since the day it ended. Nice upload.
I can see that. The first season was loaded with potential, but definitely was a bit rough on the sides. It polished up and became one of the better dramas on television. I really appreciate the kind words. I hope you subscribe, stick around and support! Thanks! :)
Come to think of it, you should do "Black Sails" too. Clearly one of the best acted, best written shows that's severly unappreciated because no one thought a pirate show could be so good....
Enjoyed the review and agree wholeheartedly it is one of the best series ever made. Having watched it five times through there are a couple of points to add - like The Sopranos and Deadwood it is fundamentally a comedy and Art should be elevated along with Raylan and Boyd as a main character as he easily has the best script. IMHO
Tim once said in an interview that he wants every project he does to be funny. They don't have to be strictly a comedy, but it has to have a strong element of humor. If you haven't seen him in Santa Clarita Diet, I highly recommend it. VERY funny show.
Through all the violence, hatred, love, respect, disrespect, greed and lust and death, that last scene brings a tear to my eye every time. I binged watched it three times now. All six seasons. The episodes fly by. Sometimes I just watch the last episode like visiting an old friend.
The intro & first episode told me this was going to be a classic. The writing was exceptional and all the cast were wonderful. Raylan reminds me of Batman and Boyd the Joker. They both need each other. 🤔😊
Very well done recap. Agreed with all your points. This was my favorite show. Very well written and acted, Each guest star added something to the greatness of the show. From Sam Elliott to Patton Oswalt. Just great acting throughout.
I rarely buy shows on DVD, but I bought Justified the series box set. I did not watch this show until it was on DVD. Not sure why. This is one of those show I will watch several if not many times. I have offered to loan these DVD's to people that have never watched the show but have found no takers. I know there are so many things to watch these days, but they don't know what they are missing by not watching Justified. I try to watch it start to finish, but sometimes watch a random episode. I am getting more critical of shows the older I get. I'm almost 72. But Justified never disappoints.
My wife and I are re-watching it for the 3rd time as I write this . I agree with you 100% especially about Gunderson being underused he and Raylen have a fun chemistry and both are dangerous men !! This show Burn Notice and Fringe are 3 of the best TV shows that will ever be imho . You could throw Nip/Tuck in there as well it started a new way of doing TV shows that helped the others be so good ....
Just finished Justified and ready to watch it over again. The writing is excellent. The acting is excellent..great characters. Tell everyone you know this one is worth taking time to watch and enjoy. Applause for the Justified team.
Olyphant was originally cast to be the Gunslinger character in the movie of Stephen King's Dark Tower, when it was imagined to be a series. Too bad it never happened. He's a very charismatic actor. I loved Justified. "You'll never leave Harlan alive …"
He would have made for one hell of a Gunslinger. He's excellent. Extremely likable. I think anyone else in the shoes of Raylan simply wouldn't have worked!
Tim was great in Broken Hearts Club (as a gay guy) as well as The Girl Next Door, the Crazies, and Deadwood (especially his last scene with Samuel Fields in the Deadwood film).
I was a Deputy Sheriff in a rural county in Oklahoma for years, and from the very first episode of Justified, I was hooked. I have binge-watched the entire season about 8 times I guess, and still - to this day - think it is one of the best television series ever aired. I watch all the little 'clip videos' highlighting different scenarios of this series on TH-cam, and they all give me the urge to go back and start watching the series again - beginning to end. I love the series; and the action, coupled with the unforgettable characters simply dazzles me, nonstop. I hate that it ended, but I now look forward to seeing more of the spin-off, Justified - The City Primeval, which only has one season behind it, and I question whether there will be more. I guess I just, subconsciously, wish I could have been the kind of Law Enforcement professional that Raylan Givens was...lol no chance LMAO
Great video, great take on the overarching elements of what is truly one of the greatest TV shows in history. My favorite aspect of the show is the interplay between Raylan and Boyd. Their backgrounds are so similar as to be practically identical, same age and similar experiences- they are doppelgangers, two sides of the same coin. This is an old trope, to be sure, but one which has rarely been explored so thoroughly or portrayed so successfully. One gets the distinct impression that Boyd sees Raylan as the only worthy adversary in his life. Despite those adversaries that challenge him (Quarrels, Limehouse, Avery Markham, etc.) Boyd respects their capabilities and the danger they present to him- but Raylan he respects as a man. By the same token, Raylan, who has such a huge streak of loyalty running through him (which is why he keeps trying despite all the disappointments with his Daddy, Winona, Mags, and so on), he can't quite separate himself from Boyd and the ultimate connection of "we dug coal together." This, combined with his own (usually grudging) respect for Boyd's intellect, is what usually causes him to act against his own better judgement and let Boyd off the hook one more time, because he recognizes Boyd's motives are "Justified." Either that, or they both just really are having a hell of a lot of fun chasing after each other and trying to outfox each other!
Just finished it, and I don't know why it is not popular 😯🤔. It's a goddamn masterpiece 🙏😍. Dialogues are beautiful(chefs kiss) Loved the story, characters and everything about this show. So glad I watched it(thanks to conan). Fire in the hole🔥🔥🔥
Boyd Crowder, Mags Bennett, Dewey Crowe, Ellstin Limehouse, Wynn Duffy, Dickie Bennett, Justified probably had one of the best TV rogues galleries. This show along with the Shield are pretty underrated.
@@sidewinder714 Hell yes. This show made it hard for me to pick a clear favorite villain (aside from Boyd, of course). This is the only show to do that for me, as all the other gazillion shows I've watched, my favorite villain is very clear.
Just came across this yesterday. When the show came out I said to someone that it was the best Western I'd seen in years. And THANK YOU for the Tim and Rachel love. They were so underused.
Boyd was at his best in season 1 and 2. I loved when he backslides in season 2 right after Mags Bennett gives him the keys to Harlan County criminal empire. It was his destiny and obviously his religious stuff WAS real (at least to Boyd himself) because we see him back in full force preaching in prison 4 years later in the finale.
Never really thought I was watching a TV program. It was much more like having a magical window open where I could look thru and watch real life happening.
The first 5-6 episodes weren’t great... but from there on this became one of the greatest goddam television programs to ever exist. An absolute masterpiece western.
I agree. Crazy to think I watched the first season many moons ago (it was my first year in College). I never finished up the show from there (I'm not really sure why, to be honest). So, it was nice returning and man, it was something special!
Absolutely a great show, awesome cast, and sadly so very under appreciated... Loved this show. And anytime I've the chance to point a new viewer its direction, I do. And not surprisingly, I'm thanked for doing so.
One of the best series I’ve ever seen Oliphant and Groggins are amazing. And almost all of the other characters are great. The writing was as good as any drama on TV
This is my all time favorite show. If I could change anything... It's Michael Rappaports accent and the entire character of Boon, who just came out of nowhere and was way too important in the end.
It quickly became one of mine too, Christopher. I have to say, I do agree with you on Rapaport's accent. I think he struggled, pronouncing some words in his NY accent that somewhat took me out of the moment. The only way to get around that is a different casting. I'm on the fence with Boon. I think the series wanted to have someone stand toe to toe with Raylan, someone that was an outside force that didn't abide by their ways, and didn't fear him. In that idea, it worked, but I do think he has a REALLY important part at the end that didn't entirely feel 'justified'. I think that moment should have been spent a bit more on Boyd's draw with Raylan.
@@NaterTot Exactly. We needed someone that really threatened Raylan's life. I still remember the gut-wrenching fear that Givens bit the dust in that episode, all because of how killer of a gunslinger Boon was!
the ending was PERFECT. I repeat, PERFECT. But, there's a umm a little but. If they put just a brief flashbacks when they dug coal together, might be my best show ever. edit: Annndddddd.... I really wanted to see Wynn Duffy surfing down the Fiji's sunset goddammit.
I watched this show from start to finish, bought the show, and I even bought the Stetson Marshall Hat made for the show, it is my favorite modern western and such a pleasure to watch live on FX, great breakdown video btw, it makes me want to watch the show again.
Really happy to have found this. I've "binged" Justified 3 times now, and it never gets old. By far the best TV Fare ever produced. I had recently moved away from Lexington after 16 years, and was awakened about 6 months later at 5AM by several US Marshal's surrounding my home in StL about 6 months later (a misunderstanding that thankfully was quickly and peacefully resolved), then Justified came along. It seemed destined for me to watch. I agree to some extent with the Raylan/Tim, Raylan/Rachel interaction. I could have lived with more of that in place of the Patton Oswalt crap, but sometimes quality over quantity is the ticket. The scenes with those 3 characters were some of the best. "I don't miss", is a classic ex-Ranger line. Also, as I said, I lived in and traveled around a lot of rural KY, and Margo Martindale's portrayal of Mags Bennett was an Emmy waiting to happen. I met several Mags' in my time there, and she nailed it. "Next ones coming faster" is one of the greatest single lines in movie/TV history.
@@ComedyBros5 "Broke down" applies to someone like me on Disability who doesn't have much extra money. Yeah, it's considered breaking down for me but I love the show.
Thank you for giving a fair review! Justified is my favorite show, I watch it over and over and keep finding new tidbits, get new perspectives on things and see things in a different way. I believe Raylan and Boyd are best friends, Boyd being the only one honest enough to embrace it. Boyd is also hands down, the best silver tongue villain ive seen! Hey you want some tidbits? When Dewey leaves Wade Messer who is played by James LeGros in the woods in season 5, episode 4; The family who helps him out of the woods are saying "We gotta get him outta here, pronto!", LeGros played Raylan Givens in the TV movie "Pronto", where he played somewhat more of a goofball, which is still referenced and not forgotten throughout Justified. Givens is seen eating ice cream a couple of times throughout the series, and he also went nextdoor to pickup some icecream when Roland Pike was watching the christmas special, years before the show. Season 5, when Raylan shoots Deweys above ground pool, they are playing and saying "Marco.. Polo".. In the same episode, Ron Yuan has a guest appearance, and also plays Prince Nayan in seaon 2 of Netflix's Marco Polo. Totally random, but ahead of time.
Timothy Olyphant is one of those guys like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood, just a natural for Westerns. Also, some of the actors really are Southern, so I don't think their accents were really that forced. Goggins is from Alabama, Zea & Tazel from Texas, and Carter from Georgia.
I agree with you on every point. My son turned me on to it six months back. I finished it two weeks ago and just had to start over with Season 1 last week. Love this show!! And that ending...whew!
"Justified is the best show I've ever seen". I've uttered that phrase more than a few times. "Next one's comin' faster" is perhaps the most Alpha line in TV/Movie history.
I figure it must be a very popular series because, having seen a few shorts online, I searched for a boxed set and it took me years to find one. The cast was incredibly good in their roles, the writing had a degree of intricacy and mostly avoided diverging into cliche. In their various roles, the characters stayed true to their motivations and background. Dewey and his cousins didn't become wise or cease to be brutal because that was who they were, how they'd learned to survive. The same is true of the Bennetts and Raylan's father. Like the Sicilian people under the Romans, Vandals, etc, they created their own inviolable culture to cope with laws exercised by 'others' and developed their own version of the Mafia. I, too, wish to have seen more of Guttersson but they never asked me...heh. Lastly, I did NOT wish for Raylan to grow. He was someone needed, just like Paul Kearsey in Deathwish. Raylan was willing to put one foot over the line and would not pull his punches when dealing with people who'd gone completely over the line. His sensibilities were outraged by the same things that outraged the people he tried to protect. The existing system was too slow or too broken and he declined to relax into it.
This is the only show that I started intending to finish with my dad and he watched without me. Roughly 3 weeks after we watched the first episode together I asked if he wanted to watch a few more and he casually told me he had finished it about a week ago. At least I know my dad a good taste lol.
As a born and bred Appalachian, Most of the main Kentucky based characters had pretty spot on accents, not counting Goggins as he is a born Southerner, but Carter's Ava and Olyphant's Raylen I have to say blew me away with how good they were. The set locations where passable for the most part, hard to get Southern Hollers and towns while filming in California
My favorite show ever. My dad and grandparents were from Harlan. The person Mags Bennet was based on (Maggie Bailey) was my dad's babysitter and kept my grandpa drunk for a decade or more. Dad dug coal in Harlan, Black Mountain, Coshocton (Ohio) and Perry State Forest (Ohio) for much of his life until black lung and cancer got him nearly two decades ago. Just as the season outro song says "you'll never leave Harlan alive".

All great choices folks.
I love;
"The next one is coming faster."
"Can you pee?"
"We dug coal together."
Gutterson is my favorite character, did always wish we got to see more of him
Absolutely. I like to pretend he’s the same character from Eurotrip and just changed his name lol
Me too but this latest “twist” with Raylan is soooooo trashy. No surprises from Hollywood🤷🏼♂️
It's rare for a show to completely nail an ending. IMO, Justified nailed it twice over. A few episodes away from finishing a rewatch ATM.
They did. The line, "we dug coal together." Something about it, just really hits well. I also think there was a bit of game-manship at the end, but I don't want to get too into it for spoiler sake. I hope you enjoy the re-watch! :)
@@NaterTot Please do get into it! Just label your comment a spoiler! lol
Raylan says "we dug coal together" in the first episode after he shot Boyd and was telling Ava why he felt sorry for doing it.
"If I said I'd watched it ten times I'm low" fantastic show 👏
😂😂😂
I just finished what I *think* is my 10th watch, lost count.
The writing alone was enough to Justify my loyalty to this show. Everything about it was perfect entertainment. One of my favorite shows ever.
" It was there I read on a hillside gravestone,.. you'll never leave Harlan alive."
"Well my granddad's dad walked down Caterine's mountain
And he asked Tilly Hilton to be his bride
He said won't you walk with me out of the mouth of this holler
Or we'll never leave Harlan alive"
My late husband dug coal & lived his earlier years in Harlan County, KY. Loved this series. I'm from Whitley County, Ky.

Pound for pound, I think this is my favorite show. Solid from start to finish, not a misstep that I can think of. Rich characters and plenty of them. There’s so much to love.
Usually child actors annoy me when they take any kind of lead role but the kid in season 5 who was also in Mud with Matt McConahey was fantastic
Been looking for a compilation of Boyd saying "RAYLANN GIVENS" for years.

@@anubus6 Beloved* Character Actress Margo Martindale, if you please...!

She was wonderful, I was mystified why they killed her off.
'Justified' is the most well-written TV show of all time. The dialogue of Boyd Crowder & Raylan Givens really sets the show in a league all its own.
Also, Justified is one of the best underated shows in modern time. I don't know how it flew under the radar.
I'm binge watching it again during pandemic time. Walton Goggins is also so good in Sons Of Anarchy.. favorite Raylan line? If you didn't want to be shot in the back, you should have been running towards me.
@@lyndakoers1389 or the Raylan's speech to Boyd and Doyle Bennett, " You deserve each other"
I don't know either.
The writing for Boyd is phenomenal. I love Walton Goggins as an actor and Boyd is on of my favorite characters in any show
I loved this show. That roadside stand off was so bad ass. “Right there is good” 😂. Raylen is one hell of a shot. So glad they decided not to kill off Boyd in the beginning as he’s one of the best actors I’ve seen on TV.
I completely agreed. I loved the final showdown too!
Even at it's worst, Justified is still one of the greatest dramas!
The only mis-step IMO was the storyline in season 2 that saw Winona stealing money from the evidence lock-up. That was the only time a character acted unbelievably. Apart from that, I thought Justified was flawless. I envy people who have yet to watch it!
@@bobmcdade5217 Yeah, that storyline made me scratch my head as well.
@@bobmcdade5217 Hell yes to that. While that episode was fun, it still made zero sense. I guess they ran out of ideas for that episode and needed something?
@@bobmcdade5217 They wanted to demonstrate what Raylan was willing to do for Winona, and I think in that, they succeeded.
Just a genuinely well rounded show.
jeff lockaby - He remembers Winona every night in his prayers...
Aunt Deen Michael Rapaport’s character I could have done without. That’s my only gripe with this show.
Aliya A. - He was an unpleasant character, but that just made it more enjoyable when he got killed.
@@auntdeen6314 I was so happy when he died.
This show is CRIMINALLY underrated
Agreed. Completely underrated
FX has ever done? It's one of the greatest shows ever done, *PERIOD.*
I watched this show religiously when I was a teen on AXN. Boyd has the best character arc of them all.
Oh saving grace another brilliant series
@@LB-rb7fs It was my favorite until I saw "Justified."
My favorite show of all time. I agree with all of your review with one exception. The unchanging nature of Raylan is the best part. He’s a lawman. Through and through. That’s all he will ever be. He never goes out of bounds on any innocent person. Just thugs and killers. The world needs more like him.
This show ages nicely. Your evaluation is superb. "I've been accused of many things, but inarticulate isn't one of them." - Boyd Crowder
If I said I've watch Justified all the way through five times, I might be low. By far, the best Neo Noir TV series ever made.
Five is impressive. I'm going to buy the collector's edition, and rewatch myself!

It was a crap movie. I'm glad Olyphant didn't go there.
@@NaterTot I think Olyphant would've been *THE* man for Jack Reacher, too!
Tim was great in Broken Hearts Club (as a gay guy) as well as The Girl Next Door, the Crazies, and Deadwood (especially his last scene with Samuel Fields in the Deadwood film).
He'd have been a fantastic Roland.
One of the best shows that I have ever seen on TV, in my 66 years. I just pray that the new show is going to be that good. Raylan is coming back.
Justified was one of the best shows I have seen in forever.
What an overlooked show. Probably the best I’ve ever seen.
I was delighted Wynn Duffy got the cash in the end. He was my favorite bad guy after Boyd.
Same here. I think Duffy was an excellent 'bad' guy.
By the same token, Raylan, who has such a huge streak of loyalty running through him (which is why he keeps trying despite all the disappointments with his Daddy, Winona, Mags, and so on), he can't quite separate himself from Boyd and the ultimate connection of "we dug coal together." This, combined with his own (usually grudging) respect for Boyd's intellect, is what usually causes him to act against his own better judgement and let Boyd off the hook one more time, because he recognizes Boyd's motives are "Justified."
Either that, or they both just really are having a hell of a lot of fun chasing after each other and trying to outfox each other!
Just finished it, and I don't know why it is not popular 😯🤔. It's a goddamn masterpiece 🙏😍.
Dialogues are beautiful(chefs kiss)

Boyd Crowder, Mags Bennett, Dewey Crowe, Ellstin Limehouse, Wynn Duffy, Dickie Bennett, Justified probably had one of the best TV rogues galleries. This show along with the Shield are pretty underrated.
What about Robert Quarles?
@@ComedyBros5 Quarles was cool too, a very disturbed villain on a downward spiral throughout season 3.
Boyd Crowder tried to go straight and do the right thing, but everyone else pushed him passed his breaking point

Best show ever!!! All characters were fantastic!! Hated for it to end and will re-watch in the future! Love Raylan's swagger..

Amen!
Honestly has to be my all time favorite show. SO GOOD
"He just saw a man in a hat pointing a gun at Boyd."
I agree with you on every point. My son turned me on to it six months back. I finished it two weeks ago and just had to start over with Season 1 last week. Love this show!! And that ending...whew!
"How much?"
"Well over ten dollars" -- Raylan Givens
“Well if I found that kinda money I’d be in Mexico right now.”
"Justified is the best show I've ever seen".
I've uttered that phrase more than a few times. "Next one's comin' faster" is perhaps the most Alpha line in TV/Movie history.
Nater, your recommendation of Psych has made a Psycho lol, so I'm trusting your judgment on this show too. I'm gonna start watching this.
I wouldn't let you down. The pilot isn't as sharp as the show let's on. I believe it was season two where I couldn't stop watching
My Favorite FX Series of All Time
I figure it must be a very popular series because, having seen a few shorts online, I searched for a boxed set and it took me years to find one.
Yay! As a native Detroiter that grew up therein the 50’s and 60’s, I’m so excited and yes I’m in.
This is the only show that I started intending to finish with my dad and he watched without me. Roughly 3 weeks after we watched the first episode together I asked if he wanted to watch a few more and he casually told me he had finished it about a week ago. At least I know my dad a good taste lol.
Anything the Tot likes is a good taste. 😂
I recently binge watched this show with my Dil, we were hooked. I'm from Whitley County Ky, my late husband dug coal & lived his earlier years in Harlan County Ky. True depiction of the area.
