Boyd Crowder is one of the all time best bad guys. The writing along with Goggins perfect application of said writing. Were absolutely mesmerizing and worth every minute spent watching it.

The line about Boyd from Mr. Augustine (who's supposed to not be from around those parts, as he's "from Detroit") is actually an Appalachian colloquialism. My mama's family had a similar version: "You're using 50 words when five will suffice. " I've heard it once or twice.

    • @ReelClues

And Boyd Crowder is THE example of that saying. Loved listening to him opine!

@@ReelClues Absolutely. Goggins created this amalgam of Tony Soprano-meets-Doc Holiday that you just don't see on television. I was born in Richmond, Kentucky and raised in Central Virginia. All my life, I have despised the stereotype of Appalachians being mouth-breathing illiterates. It was nothing short of inspiring to see that trope being defied.

Boyd Crowder stands out a lot of times in the show.
I love how complex he is, and Walton Goggins's performance is absolutely excellent.
I really enjoyed this video you made on his character analysis

The fact that they were close friends in true life bleeds through every layer that the story uses to separate and isolate both characters. Circumstance seems to have dictated the course of their lives far more than morality and the last scene sums it up completely. “We dug coal together” breaks my heart every time.
I need to call my best bud.

The Raylan/Boyd dynamic is so interesting. They hate each other because they’re on opposite sides of the law, but respect each other because they are the only ones who understand each other

Boyd Crowder is in my opinion the best silver tongue villain to ever grace the silver screen.
I say villain for the lack of a better word because he is so much more than that, it's hard not to cheer for the guy as you watch him struggle throughout the series.

    • @ReelClues

Agree 100% - an episode without Boyd Crowder would be dull ...

The character of Raylan Givens is like a modern western gunslinger. Seems like we are returning to a time when EVERYONE had to wear a gun for protection. That said, the dialogue in this series is some of the best written. The relationship between Raylan and Boyd is complicated because they were at one time like brothers. Like real brothers sometimes you want to kill them but you can't because you love them.

    • @ReelClues

I always felt they didn't do Boyd justice in the last season bc it was so unlike his character to have killed the guy who's pickup he stole. Obviously the guy wasn't going to go out of his way to turn Boyd in so I don't think Boyd would have shot the guy. Maybe tied him up. Recall he did have handcuffs available. In this video they claim he became dark but at the very end IMHO it is classic Boyd once again claiming for the devil to get behind him ... thus he didn't become dark, the writers stubbed their toes. Anyways I loved the show but as much as I liked Raylon I could not help but always hope things would work out for Boyd. :)

    • @ReelClues

    • @anthonyanderson9303

I think the writers changed Boyd for the same reason the Sopranos writers changed Tony towards the end of that show. The character had gotten TOO sympathetic to the audience and there needed to be a reminder that we're talking about a ruthless murderer.

@@ReelClues The mark of a truly great actor is that you do forget that the character isn't a real person. I'm just offering a helping hand with the terminology when talking about acting. Friendly criticism (which is the best type, in my experience.)
