This is wonderful- thank you! Just starting out - you've really broken it down. I act as Artist Manager for my band - I do everything! Will be nice to explain to the rest of the band that there are different areas that people can take on - i've been finding it hard to list our responsibilities and delegate. SO useful, thanks! Laura Alexa, GT
I work as band manager she is 100% right, You must be thick skined dont expect success right away, very competitive industry, being and audiophile understand speaker specs and more, been self-employed 20 years she tellsit like it is.
Very awesome and well tutorial about music business management, i'm an upcoming artist, and I needed something like this, thank you very much and well done, thumbs up..
Please make more of these videos! You have no idea how much they helped me back in freshman year of college thinking about where I would fit in on the business side! Thanks for all your help!
It depends...if you want to work with independent artists start working for local musicians or musician friends. You never know one of them just might make it big one day! Make sure to get your 10-15% though! If you want to work with a big management company, I suggest internships. I interned at management company and work hard. I know if that company I interned with would have hired me if they had a job when I was looking :)
Hey this is the most instructive video about this topic I´ve ever seen, is easy and very clear, I´m a dancer but it helps me anyway! thxs from Venezuela!!!
This is incredibly insightful! I sincerely thank you so much for such job well done. I'll be watching the other videos in this series very soon. I appreciate this video so much.
Thanks for your video! it is of great help, specially in Latino American countries, since the support for artists is limited and you are giving great tools to see music as a business. Congrats!
You roles of an artist manager are so dead on. There have been a few artist managers that I have met that didn't answer phone calls for WEEKS. haha! Sad to say, the artist is no longer active.
Hey Devon, I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I am don't know of any audio books but my all time favorite music business book is " Music Business 101" by Brian Wesley Peters
I really enjoy this tutorials on music business , I need more lesson on this chapter ,we are trying to have record label as independent label. I would like to know more about music business. This help and tell me how to get funding to start our label.
Hi Amanda, That is a good question! Those who want to be a day to day manager should find solid well known management companies such as Red Light Management. There you can start as an admin assistant and work your way up. As you work there you will make contacts with labels, etc so if you end up going on your own you will have some great contacts and have built your name up in the industry.
Nice idea. You might consider updating. And featuring real live professionals in your videos to add some credibility. But, as an agent/manager/artist for a very long time, I think it's a very good effort!
wow....you are freakin' adorable... love how your cuteness blazes thru your presentation... which is done very well I might add.... just HAD to say... ;)
@@scottfreeland3242 so your suggestion would be for him to say nothing? He was point blank honest and g rated so whats the big deal? just trying to understand why you found it so creepy?
Hi there. Appreciate the upload. I've gone from event organizer to agent to artist manager as well as radio MC. I love what I do but there are a lot of challenges. I've done these things only in last couple of years so I'm a freshy in the artist management field however learn something new every day. What advice or resources can you recommend to me for how best to combine the tour manager, day to day and business manager into one role efficiently? Or should we look into hiring? Another question is what is the best way to source reliable promoters in other cities in likes of Europe or US. All advice and resources appreciated. Keep up the good helpful work.
how do I book my artist? i have been trying to call arenas... email links... facebook.. etc.. and not one show.... so far... i am tour manager and business manager but cant get ONE gig for my Stax Record Legend Ronnie Hudson....
Does a manager ever have any business doing what an engineer does? Mine is currently badgering me for my raw files so he can manipulate them, but I have my own engineer of 7 years. I find it unnerving how he won’t stop asking after I’ve respectfully declined. Then he tells me I’m forming an unworkable relationship if I don’t provide him that. It’s all really upsetting bc I want to retain full control of my artistic matters like it says in our contract, but I’m being made to feel like I’m hard to deal with. Anyone out there, Am I tripping or is he?
Hey I have a handful of friends that are producers that are growing everyday in terms of followers and have huge potential. Where do I start coming from nothing in terms of experience wit managing. They kind of already self promote themselves so all I could see myself doing for them is getting them shows to play but I still don't know how I'd go about that.
As a budding songwriter (and that's all I want to be), if I write the lyrics and produce the music for a song. I own the copyright. As the copyright owner I am also the music publisher. Now, I want to make money off of my intellectual property (or song). In reference to record labels how does it work? Do I pitch my song to them and then LICENSE my song to them (if they decide that they want to make a master recording of my song for/with one of their artists), or do I simply SELL my (copy)right of the song outright to the record label?
Wish I could send you a more detailed note, but want to thank you for this tutorial. I'm a screenwriter working on a movie about the industry. If you'd like maybe we could connect and discuss further.
You are such a bubbly and sweet person! This was a wonderful video, thank you for making this. Very helpful!

Could you share a list with some reading materials?

hey me and my friends are just making a little band for fun but non of them nor i can sing so is it bad if we dont have a singer

They kind of already self promote themselves so all I could see myself doing for them is getting them shows to play but I still don't know how I'd go about that.
I guess my main question is how would I scope how many people would buy tickets to see shows that I can set up for them
Joe Triolo Ask potential venues the band or artist is interested in playing.
Love it Thank you :)
I'm looking for Audio Books that pertain to a career in music.
