    Artist Manager is what I go with but I would transistion to Talent manager when I begin to grow into managing other kinds of acts. Such as comedians, speakers, or authors. I would really love to help authors out.

    I like talent Manager, because that opens a wide range of opportunities. When you label yourself as an Artist manager, the first thing that comes to mind is music. And that can limit you to just that. Maybe I'm wrong.

    I prefer the word "artist manager".Question: if the manager invest in his artist by producing his 1st album and single videos, what fee should get on top of his classic management fees?Is for the album producing the fee after recouping his investment Or?

    • @SmartistU
      @SmartistU  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would ask a lawyer or another producer friend if you can. But if you're producing that's separate from management. Should perhaps discuss a producers fee or producer points on the album.

  • @NicBam
    @NicBam 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    2:00 They all have different definitions. A band manager is self-explanatory: artists managers don't manage bands; they manage artists (solo performers, painters, photographers, etc.). Music managers oversee all aspects of the industry (a broader scope), and talent managers manage talents of many disciplines. I'm not sure where you got the idea that they're all the same (maybe it’s the new industry and how they've ignored standards,) but there are differences. Plus, you forgot, Personal Manager.

    I love this video it is so informative. I'm an artist with over 12 million streams on Spotify, I have a verified IG and Facebook page (I didn't pay for my verification, I received it in 2021). I've made a decent amount of money from streams and production cuts, so I think I'm doing a few things right. I also have been featured on several Spotify editorial pages. I'm slowly growing my TH-cam channel, but I've received a lot of love on it as well and put in the work and money to create some music videos. I've been an artist for over 5 years, and I still can't seem to find a manager who knows the business side of things, to help me level up. I would love to link up with a manager here who wants to take a leap with me and level things up. I'm based in LA.

  • @maxsherritt9008
    @maxsherritt9008 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Also, I am a singer/guitar player that has written a few songs but does mostly cover songs. Is an agent ever willing to work with and help blossom a singer that doesnt really have anything to work with? (i.e., singing mostly covers, no fan base, now shows, no gigs?) Or does an artist already need to have some history of success?

    • @SmartistU
      @SmartistU  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Max. Agents (like pretty much everyone else in the industry) want to represent people who already have something to “work with”. They want a show they can book and know they can make their commission off of it. Managers are usually more likely to spend their time developing an act they believe in. Agent, not so much. They sell shows. So if you don’t have a show they have nothing to sell.

    Hey. Thanks for sharing. I have a question. i was verbally managing an artist for over one year where i connected him to all possible avenues, got him massive concerts, I housed him, paid for all his travels etc. I later introduced him to a song writer and verbally agreed on producing an album with the artist and song writer. luckily i have all the discussions of our journey on my h6 recorder as we used to record spontateous sessions and all discussions. It was a heartbreak to find out that he no longer wants to work with me. The artist has now left me and decided to finish the album with the song writer. what should i do to ensure i am compensated for my efforts.

      Let me try this again... I endured this exact situation several years ago, so my heart breaks for you. Unfortunately, this is very common. Unfortunately, you likely will not receive compensation. Any time and money you would put into an attorney would likely not be worth it. Perhaps you could consult with someone with a law background to write a letter of intent to your 'defendant' in an effort to prompt them to cough up some dough without having to take legal action. In my case, my client had a heart, I simply asked them to pay me, and a year later I ended up receiving about 10% of what I should have been owed. IMO, chalk it up to a fantastic, volunteer learning experience. Take what you've learned, find a new artist you love, and SIGN A CONTRACT immediately. Talk about commission before you even start working with them. Then agree on a monthly revenue report (from the artist) and monthly pay structure.

      You as the manager definitely do not need a following. Unless you want to use that as leverage to prove to an artist you know how to build a social media audience and will help them build theirs as well. But it comes down to results. You want to land them opportunities that result in income. Focus on revenue generation.

    So how about a manager wants you to sign a five year contract but for you 3 years contract it's okay what do you do

      If you're not 110% confident in the manager, just make sure you don't accept a deal which is hard to get out of.
      You really don't want to end up in a situation where a manager is taking a cut of your earnings for 5 years but doesn't offer you any significant value.
