  • Our friend, the little grebe, goes back to the wild!
This gorgeous little grebe has won the hearts of everybody at the centre! We rarely see these amber-listed birds (vulnerable species), so we took good care of him. He had a parasite infection in his gut, so he stayed with us for a few days for treatment.
On the day of his release, he was very eager (and very quick) to get back on the lake, probably to take a bath and dive for fish!
Watch until the end the see the slow motion captured by the GoPro Hero 4 at 120 frames per second.

If they want to thumbs down it, then let them, it's their right after all, it's just a shame they don't have the guts to say why, so we can try and answer their concerns.

Wildlife Aid They probably did it because it was much too short a clip! It wasn't even a minute long, after all. ;) Many of us could watch you guys work for hours!

The clue is in his name, he's a 'little grebe' he's an adult in his winter plumage, and was just a little weak from his migration to the UK, when numbers increase from 4000 breeding pairs to upwards of 17,000 birds, so hopefully he has a great chance of finding a mate when he is over here :)

Anangke - That's exactly what I thought at first, too. He was definitely a wee mite. :D
