  • A walk around Lisvane and Llanishen reservoirs in February showing a number of diving birds, rare and not so rare. Great Northern Diver, Red-Necked Grebe and Ring-Necked Duck are the rarities, Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Little and Great Crested Grebes the native birds.

Wow. Nice details. It feels like I am seeing them live by myself. Thanks a lot.

You’re right mate and easier to walk around than some of the bogs I’ve been wading through recently!

Wish I'd picked up on this earlier John, I'd have nipped down. Thanks for sharing.👍

Thank you, I think the Ring-Necked Ducks are still around but the GND and RND haven’t been reported for a while.

Thank you! You’re right, I think that’s why going out birding is always a magical mystery tour!

Hello! What a discovery ! So difficult to identify unless you get really close ! Reservoirs are great places but I don’t understand what some people are doing paddling there.
I also found the grebe’s foot really cute. And it’s nice to find a kingfisher too. In Europe they are not so keen on people near them. 0:53 0:53
Thank you for this. I had never seen such a duck . I’ll check its characteristics.
What a welcoming country UK is for birds! Hoping next week will be fruitful too. Best wishes !🍀🍀🍀‼️

Thank you, sorry it’s taken so long to reply, I’ve been a bit under the weather. ! I included the paddle boarders to show how contradictory it is when they try to combine water sports with respect for nature. I think that Welsh Water keep Lisvane free of human activity and have a hide on that side and also the path on the far bank is closed, possibly only through the breeding season, I don’t know it’s my first time there.
I guess they are offering kayaking and paddle boarding for commercial reasons and they are not a nature reserve as such. Another big reservoir near me also has sailing but an out of bounds area for breeding birds.
      Are Japanese Kingfishers more approachable?
Hope you have a great weekend and best of luck with the birding. 🍀🍀🍀👍

@@johnluk Thank you very much for your answer. I really was interested in what was what about the water sports in reservoirs. As for the kingfishers here if they are in a river where many people pass by they don’t mind. They are approachable to a limit. What they don’t like is the unfolding (for a better word) of the Nikon p series as they seem to catch the noise of the lense while at the same time it aims at them. Your p1000 and my p950 work the same way from this point of view. In a place with few people they just fly away. Many parks have ponds with fish or crayfish and there they don’t mind the people as long as they get their dinner.
I’m sorry you were not ok. I hope things will get better. I really wish you luck and a good health. 😊😊👋👋🙏🙏‼️
