When this song originally can out in 1973, I told everyone this would be a big hit someday. B W Stevenson was just ahead of his time. The original sounds almost exactly like this. Cant hardly tell the difference in the vocals.
Both are good versions but I slightly prefer the original. They're in different keys and there are other small differences, but both capture a great song and a fantastic chorus.

Before I was born in the early 1980s, my mom had a friend who was a very nice lady who immigrated from Panama named Maria. They lost touch over the course if life. Fairly recently with Facebook, my mom came to find out Maria passed away from cancer in 2011. This song makes me think of her. Very nice song.
@listen2100 Me too. I have only seen pictures and she looked like such a nice lady. Mom tells me she was the type of person who would give up her right arm to help someone.
Ronnie is such a surprise, he stands there with no dance - no horses, nor glitz or glitter and lets loose one of God's most amazing voices in song. Truly awesome recording right there.
They stay remarkably faithful to the original. I've loved this song ever since it first came out. It brings back memories of my college days, and being blessed by seeing B.W. Stevenson in person, and listening to his albums over and over. Ronnie Dun's voice even sounds a lot like B.W. Stevenson's. This is one of those songs that always makes me feel happy.
Had a friend named Maria, a good friend.. she passed several years ago way too young. I like to sing this to her and remember what a great person she was!! Maria, I love you!!
Sorry for your loss. My dad use to call my Mom "My Maria" before this song came out but it stuck for them. They have since passed also it brings back memories of them! 😢 ✌❤
I was born in 1992; grew up in a small town in northern Canada; raised by two Alberta parents including one born and raised right on the cattle farm of Olds, AB. When people ask me what song reminds me of my childhood it's this one. From infancy, to trips to the family cabin, to years of traveling the prairies for hockey tournaments, to today with memories of my late father. This song is country to me.
My Mom is Maria and I love her so much! I cherish every moment with her and hope for 30 more years by the grace of God! I can’t imagine living without her 💜

So much fun. One of our favorite memories. Still is a fav. 25yrs later when I hear it i want to dance. Thanks guys
Are we ever going to get back to this level of quality in country music?! This is definitely one of the best driving music songs ever Dunn! Staring at the horizon, a 100 miles to go and just belting this song out for the world to hear - or not, who cares! Clutching on the steering wheel trying to keep the high notes! The repeat button on the CD player being hit enough times to qualify for an assault charge! Wonderful stuff!
+Byron Wolters No we will never have it this good again. Too many stupid people on this planet that accept anything they are fed, and then ask for more. And sadly, this is not just limited to music.
Real country is Jonny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Wille Nelson, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette and the like. This is 1990's pop country, still a good song for what it is though.

This is what modern country needs. Well written songs with real instruments. Excellent production value, but written and sang by people who meant it. The vocal work and harmonies are immaculate, but not overdone or washed too cleanly. The instruments are well played with lots of little fills and licks mixed in between verses and choruses (especially that guitar solo, that's a very good country electric guitar). The pre-chorus after the second verse is especially divine in how it's done. One thing Ronnie Dunn does very well is use a country twang but it's not overwhelming. He's a fine singer and the twang gives his voice a lot of character, where a lot of hit country is just twang and it's all the singer has going for them. This was a hit song because it was great and had excellent production, not because it was written to be a hit if that makes sense.
You have no clue do you? It's a great song because the original was a top 40 and this is just an overlay of separate lyrics but using the original everything as far as music goes and it certainly wasn't country, this is a 70s? Song
Talk about no clue. Yes, the original was done in 1973. This song uses the same lyrics and the music has been countrified a bit. Nothing was "overlayed". @@ryuken0088

B&D do an excellent job of B.W. Stevenson's classic. This was an extraordinary song when first released way back then. It's just a beautiful song about a beautiful woman.
The song was originally written and recorded by B.W Stevenson in 1973 as a pop hit,not necessarily a country song, but Ronnie really does it justice and it paid off for them.Great song.

Great rendition of this classic by B.W. Stephenson who sang it best but died at the young age of 39 - brings back the year 1973 just by the tune itself
When I was younger my dad and I would always jam out to this song because my name is Maria. If the radio was on in the kitchen and this song came on we would dance together. My dad said that song was made for me so for the longest time I thought it really was lol. I miss those days...
Ha Ha! That's a cool story! Music always brings back memories of where I was at that time! I used to go to the OK Korral for 2-step dancing when B&D were singing this! (mid 90s) Neon Moon was played last song of the evening many nights!
It's been about 2.5 years since I've heard this song. Brooks and Dunn were my Mom's favorite and this her favorite song. Watching her suffer in the hospital in late May of 2018, my kids played this song for her. The last thing she ever heard. The last note played and she took her final breath. Miss you, Mom. Back when I was a kid, and it was still affordable (lol), my mom used to take me and my siblings for car rides around the Georgia countryside every weekend. This was one of the songs she had on a CD we'd always play and I loved singing along every time it came on. Now I'm an adult and life sucks, but this song reminds me of the way I felt when I was a kid, which is great haha. Classic!

Thought I would mosey over to the Wonderful World of Country Music this morning. This is my first stop. Pure velvet for the ears. First time I heard this many years ago, I thought "well, this will sell more than a million" ... never doubted it.
I am a 75 year old black man and I hope you love this song like I do!!! If not I don't know what to say to you....
One love brother ❤

This song reminds me of the love of my beautiful latina!
Just LOVE It,.too,...it makes me dance and I'm 76😊😊
.
Makes me wish I was somebody's "Maria!" Lol
It doesn't get any better than "My Marie" by Brooks & Dunn. And watching them ride those beautiful horses just sends me to heaven.
This song about you? Lol
He's not talking about a Marie....they're specifically talking about a Maria!!!!
Maria...not Marie, if ya don't believe me look at the Mexican ladies and the Catholic candles and saints ...they aren't talking about an Italian Marie 🤣😂 it's clear you're interpreting the song wrong 🤣
@@jayz4dayz763 no it's not lol shes Marie....they're singing about a Mexican chick named Maria, don't believe me look at the video lol

A true classic that will always get toes tapping and spirits lifted.
I was at work one day. Dunn walked up to my register. .WOW.. I politely asked him for an autograph . He is such a gentleman .

My dad had a black lab named Ruby that lived to be 11. This was her favorite song. She'd wag her tail so hard I thought it was going to fall off. Whenever I hear this I think of that precious dog.
I never been a fan of country...But this is something special. I have listened to this song for atleast an hour. Love Brooks and Dunn
Give a listen to B. W. Stevenson's original version of "My Maria".
My Maria was my grandmother. I heard this song a million times and it wasn't until her passing that it made me cry. 💗 Grief is never ending thank God for country music that helps. 🙏🏻
Hello Virginia.. how are you doing?

This is one of the best covers of a song EVER.
This isn't a cover...
+Mortal Kombat Jess it is tho
+Mortal Kombat Jess A cover is one artist singing a song that was originally sung by another artist which is exactly what this is. The original came out in the 70s.
i didnt realize it was a cover either but did a little search and yes it is a cover
+kevin matthews who does the original ?
had the oppurtunity to see these fellas perform at the Medicine Hat stampede in the early 90's. they put on a good show and stayed around after to shake hands and take pictures.

B.W. Stevenson did it with one great voice! These guys kept a great song alive 40 years later! Great Job!
Hello Karl, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
This son will never die!
son?
Sometimes it makes me really happy to see this guy sing this song! Thank you Ronni
Amazing this song is over 25 years old and the BW Stevenson original is almost 50. Once I heard the B&D version, I immediately said "This is better"
disso qeu preciso e casa
Hm. Not better. As good.
Loved it when it was first released in the 70s. I was a little kid and it would play on the radio. Loved it then and love the Brooks and Dunn version now.
What do you admire most about Brooks and Dunn
B&D do an excellent job of B.W. Stevenson's classic. This was an extraordinary song when first released way back then. It's just a beautiful song about a beautiful woman.
The song was originally written and recorded by B.W Stevenson in 1973 as a pop hit,not necessarily a country song, but Ronnie really does it justice and it paid off for them.Great song.
Awesome. Gives me chills. God what a voice.
Gave me chills too
i know i still echo you saying what you did with yours
A space traveling cat man from the disney family, not even human.

You take care. Keep music rollin.
Great rendition of this classic by B.W. Stephenson who sang it best but died at the young age of 39 - brings back the year 1973 just by the tune itself
Dec3 2024 anybody??❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
When I was younger my dad and I would always jam out to this song because my name is Maria. If the radio was on in the kitchen and this song came on we would dance together. My dad said that song was made for me so for the longest time I thought it really was lol. I miss those days...
Beautiful anecdote--and an equally beautiful woman
Ha Ha! That's a cool story! Music always brings back memories of where I was at that time! I used to go to the OK Korral for 2-step dancing when B&D were singing this! (mid 90s) Neon Moon was played last song of the evening many nights!
This song proves his versatility as an exceptional Artist. It's a great feel good song. Great job Ronnie on the vocals.
Until we meet again.
so sorry for your loss lost my mom in 2004 God Bless
I'm sorry hear about your loss. Your Mom passed away hear the best of the B E S T🌹!
Still listening in 2024 ❤
I miss the great country music I grew up with in the 90s 🤠

Everything’s got the same snap and drum beat behind it now, this era is undefeated
50's, 60's, and 70's country was the best, imo!!!!
Same!! Country is not the same
Love this song!! One of my all-time favorites!!

One of the very best songs I’ve ever heard in my entire life thank you Brooks & Dunn
Thank BW Stevenson and 3 Dog Night. BW Stevenson wrote it as Shambala and the chorus is inspired by the 3 Dog Night version.
2022 still one of the best. And don’t forget BW Stephenson. He did it first and it’s just as good. Both classics!
I'm hardcore into edm and I love Brooks and Dunn as well as other rebel country, reminds me of where I grew up. I have no shame singing this song as loud as can and enjoying every dang minute of it!
Classic!
Great cover..they did a great job doing the original song! Always loved the original version but Brooks and Dunn performed it very well..almost sounding likes like the original!
I had a dream about this song.. haven't heard it since I was a kid, like 20 years ago. It's crazy how these things just stay in the back of your mind, waiting to surface decades later. Beautiful and timeless song.
I love the way this man yodels!
Fantastic song!
Ill yodel for ya !
Mike Brown Ronnie Dunn is the best
Not quit a yodel, more of a falsetto but yeah, really good voice I agree.
aqueenwaits you
Nice day
This awesome song is timeless, takes me back to precious memories of my mom, Maria.

My best friend dedicated this song to me. BFF love ❤ Soul Sisters. She was there for me always when I was going through breast cancer and no words to express my gratitude!!! God bless her 🙏 my angel 😇
Still a great song after all these years. Can't beat those vocals!
Can't add more to comments...just great!
I remember a time when music used to be this good. Haven’t heard this one in a while. I’m getting emotional just thinking about how bad the world has gotten since the mid 90s
Can i have a show of hands if you're still listening to this in 2020
🙋♂️ ooh ooh me!!

Love the song and Dunn's vocals. It needs one more verse.
Loved this song as a kid, back then, the 70s! I know you hear it all the time, but truly, the 70s were great music.
But this song was made in 1996
@@JohnJohn-pj6xd Remake of a B.W. Stevenson song from 1973. Reached #9 on the Top 40 charts that year.
