    This looks great. I’ve been wanting to get some movement into my props for years. Not full on animatronics but just something to introduce a little eye catching movement so will be watching this with interest. The only drawback is I’m an expat living in a England so some of the Canadian Tyre / Harbour Freight supplies I may have to source alternatives for.

      I'm recording the video for the first build and I am actually sourcing all the parts through Amazon, so everyone should be able to find a similar piece either locally or on the web. I'm looking forward to getting this first build up and finished so I can move forward to more mechanisms. Thanks for watching!

    You’re unstoppable, Samhain!! My oscillating floor fan version of a ghost can now get a serious upgrade!👻😂✌️

      Fraidy! I had not hear from you in a while, was hoping all was well! As for the mechanism, I think that as I get going the things we can all build will be fantastic. I was hoping to have the gimbal mechanism out like last week, but ended up designing all the joints to make a full sized armature for animatronics and testing all that out. It's a very complex system, it just takes time.

    Great idea! This video is what made me subscribe to your channel. It is one of the best ideas I have seen in a long time. Keep up the great work!

      Thanks Todd! I'm currently working on a second mechanism, but the holiday season has impacted my productivity a bit! lol. If you end up printing the pieces, let me know how they work out! Thanks for the sub and watching :)

    Very handy for so many projects. Thank you.

      Thanks @dannyhiggins8279! I'm looking forward to sharing all the files next week for the first project. Really excited to see as time goes along what people build from it all! Thanks for watching

    Very cool ... I'll have to check out where your STL files are and see what you made. I have to messing around with something similar. Lots of ideas but haven't started on any of them yet. Thanks for posting.

      The sTL files for the linear mechanism will be done for next week along with the build video. They are already built but I want to get them 100% before I release them to the world. There is so much I want to do, but decided I had to get part of them out so I start somewhere on building a whole library of 3d printed animatronic components. Thanks for watching!

    Beautiful! I've been noodling with a toy set of links and things for prototyping, but this stuff looks ready for prime time. Nice!

      I'm hoping it all works in the long run, I'm hoping it gets legs under it and as a community it fills in a need amongst the builders in our circles! If not, it will make offering mechanism plans easier for me at the very least :)

      Thanks a bunch @mykonine6095 ! I am going to be building the plans and prop video for the linear mechanism for next week so it will all become a lot clearer in practice when people can get their hands on the parts :). Thanks for watching!

    Great idea! Definitely going to stay tuned. Maybe I am missing something, but I don’t see any links in description.

      Come back in one week and they will be there :) I was planning on doing a second video about the linear mechanism specifically and I did not have the schematic built yet and I was going to put all the files up then. Thanks for watching :)

      I'm excited to offer this to everyone who is into this type of thing. Just been a real brain drain designing a system that is hopefully expandable and future proof. I already have a line up of mechanisms I am in various stages of design. Thanks for watching!

      Hey @Lynnjohnsonmuldokken . This was just announcing the system, the linear drive pieces will be coming with next weeks video, I still have a few refinements to make to the pieces but they should be ready by next Friday where I will unleash the first build to the world.

      @@SamhainPropworks so state that the links to them are below? When they are not.. you could have left that part out or stated that they will be out later..

      I have a gimbal that I might just release as is so people can use it. Been trying to get a mechanism built for a rotating head. I have a ton of ideas stewing but need to get them into the design and release stage. Been working on a specimen bottle video that has absorbed my free time recently, so many projects, so little time! Thanks for watching :)

    Brilliant!!! I can't wait to get a 3D printer now! So much easier than making the light duty stuff out of steel. ☠

    • @SamhainPropworks
      @SamhainPropworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It also is really light so a lot of the motors power is not sapped with the weight of the mechanism. I'm busy just finishing up the first set of pieces to get online, and recording the video for the linear mechanism. I have a ton of plans for different mechanisms, but it's quite the mental game to design all these things! Thanks for watching!

    Do you think 3D prints can handle the forces in some of the movements that are possible?

    • @SamhainPropworks
      @SamhainPropworks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey @flywithbart I have been printing these parts out of PETG with 1.6mm walls and gyroid infill, I printed a 7" beam hooked it up the motor and hung a 2.5lb weight off the end. Turned it on and there was minor deflection but no signs of warping or breaking, even my bolted motor output bracket held up amazingly. 3d printed components are amazingly strong (I recently designed and printed a new part of the lower agitator on my washing machine where the plastic spline had stripped, out of PETG and it has held up amazingly). I really think we will run into issues with motor limiting out before the printed parts hit their breaking point. The best part is that even with some long term wear and tear, the modular pieces make it easy and cheap to repair!

    • @flywithbart
      @flywithbart ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SamhainPropworks That is good to know. I don't play with PETG though only PLA so likely more brittle.

    I see on the motor coupling you’re using is a L
    NO CARRIER

      Thanks again for the idea for the bolt through the motor mount, I was going to properly thank you next week in the full build video. :)
