    I get a sense that the new Land Cruiser is built more for off-roading than previous Land Cruiser models, which had an emphasis on luxury, perhaps. Really great that it has so much get up and go for its size. Toyota has done a great job on this new model. Great video! 👍

      For sure! Definitely a great overland option. The new GX is a great blend of this with the luxury side. I think they did a good job on these new ones!

      Not really. The LC250/prado is a successor to the lc150/prado which never got sold in the US. The prado was always less luxurious than the bigger 200 series. The 300 series (also not sold in the US) which is the successor to the 200 series still maintains the luxury over off road feel that the 200 series had. However, the 300 series has a dedicated off-road model called the GR Sport which comes with locking front, center and rear differentials.

    Seeing more of these show up around Charlotte. Great SUV, but given the price, I’d lean towards the GX 550.

      Yea, it's expensive when the GX is available or even the new 4runner possibly. Cool though!

    Toyota doesn’t make a lot of engineering and design choices that make sense, I think. An off-road vehicle that comes standard with street tires. Ground clearance is only 8.7 inches which is worst than the current 4Runner. Put in a lift and bigger off-road tires and that hybrid turbo engine is gonna take a big hit in fuel economy.
    Idk man, the more I think about it, the more I feel like we’re paying too much for Toyota’s reputation for reliability that sometimes doesn’t make sense. They waited so long to update their old platforms (Tacoma/4Runner/LC) so they can milk cash from selling old outdated vehicles, and now when they finally upgraded their vehicles they’re asking for so much money that they know their loyal fan base would pay no matter what.
    Switched from owning 2 4Runners to now owning a Ford Raptor w/ 37 package and that is a superior vehicle to any vehicle Toyota makes. Not sure what it will take for me to go back to Toyota.

    • @floofy117
      @floofy117 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Their decision makes a lot of sense business wise. The majority of their buyers don't actually go off-road/overlanding/wheeling/touring so it makes more sense for them to engineer the vehicle with smaller tyres for a more attractive fuel economy for the majority of buyers. The minority of buyers who actually want to go off-road will most likely switch out the tyres for their personal choice of tyres anyway so there's no point in spending extra production costs on expensive off-road tyres that will be switched out by the buyer anyway. This is evident with the 70 series which is even more off-road orientated than the 250 series. The 70 series comes with thin road tyres.
      As for the engine choice, Toyota has been using 4cyl engines globally for decades so they know what they're doing even if you feel like the engine will get overstressed just by adding bigger tyres they have decades worth of evidence globally with their 4cyl engines and hybrid tech to be comfortable enough to put it in the 250 series. Even the new 70 series models have been switched from a v8 to a 4cyl engine and they're proving to be a great upgrade with general improvements in performance overall including towing tests. Check Ronny Dahls youtube channel to see the proof as he's been testing these vehicles for a while now.

      @@floofy117this doesn’t make any sense….I’m paying closer to $70K just to have to spend another $2k on tires? I’m 100% sure don’t want to do that. All other off-road vehicles in this class come with off-road tires and are ready to go right away (Bronco, Wrangler, even the 4Runner TRD Pro). However you want to defend Toyota, it makes “business sense” for them to pocket the cost of not having to put more expensive tires on their vehicles and pass on that cost to the consumers.

    • @floofy117
      @floofy117 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@whocaresjustdoit if you can truly afford a $70k vehicle and the running costs then you can definitely afford to spend an extra $2k on tyres of your choice. Toyota isn't holding you at gunpoint to buy their vehicle and if you don't like thier way of doing business you can surely spend your hard earned money on the competition. I'm not defending what they're doing, I myself am a fan of having a ready to go vehicle from tbe factory like the Ineos Grenadier models. But like I said Toyota does things based on long term studies. They have decades of information that tells them most of their vehicles are used on-road in urban areas. They know off-roading has gotten popular but not popular enough to slap on factory AT or MT tyres. Toyotas way of showing they listen is introducing the Overtrail trims on the GX and having that AAP program where you can include approved aftermarket kit in your order sheet for your new toyota vehicle.

      @@floofy117lol ok man. No point debating about this since you’re clearly heavily biased towards Toyota. Ferrari could have said “oh most of our customers don’t take their vehicles to the track, so why give them Brembo brakes and sports bucket seats? Why don’t just give them drum brakes and a big Cadillac seat? Why don’t we sell them at $300K and tell our customers they need to spend another $50K to put on new brakes and seats if they want to race? Our data show most Ferraris are stored in garages. Let’s not even give them a roof”. It’s what makes sense for the purpose the vehicle is made for…

    • @floofy117
      @floofy117 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@whocaresjustdoit I'm not biased, it's sadly just the truth. Take a look at how different the offerings are for the lc250 and lc300 in the middle east markets are where they actually take their vehicles to the dunes for fun most of the time (because they have money to spare), they get their landcruisers factory/dealership equipped with way different tyres than Toyota would offer you in the NA market. So it really is just up to what the majority of the buyers actually use the vehicles for. Like i said i too prefer it when companies offer the vehicles ready to take on the trails like ineos and jeep do. Even Ford offers some better alternatives with the broncos than what Toyota is offering with the Landcruiser.
