Because they are all terrain tires not snow tires. Dedicated snow tires would make a lot of these tests quite a bit different...when running the all terrain tires, mud tires, etc. that people think they need they perform pretty bad in snow, many times making the vehicle actually dangerous to drive more so than stock tires.

18 psi is a lot for off-road especially snow. Snow must be treated like very soft sand. 12psi is max, preferable below 10psi. (Depend on rims and tires)

8:10 "Don't stop on ice" - it would seem logical advice. But in real winter conditions, when there is snow and it doesn't melt for several weeks in a row, ice forms automatically at all intersections and traffic lights. First, the snow is compacted under the pressure of the weight and tires of the car. Then it is polished and finally turns into ice under the influence of the sun during the day and the deep minus at night. Therefore, tires, like in the video, no matter how many peaks were drawn on the side, are still not winter tires, because they simply lack the tread lamella checkers... That is, you are stuck not on ice, but on snow, and it is precisely because of these tires. This is very funny, by the way, because just before that you are being shown an advertisement for tires...
@@drivingsports Saw that! neat but on a different platform. Would be interesting to see a redo on the LC with the K03 without the power cutting issue of the Raptor
At $80k as well as dealer ‘markups’ the 4 cylinder is a deal breaker. That engine will need to be serviced more often than most if used in this usual practice. The Honda Pilot Trailsport might be a more practical choice at nearly half the price.🤷🏼
Every video I've seen with these AT4W's are substantially worse than the AT3W's in the snow and ice, due to less voids and siping. I'm not going to blame the Landcruiser on this one.
Agreed. Tough to tell if if was the snow conditions or the tires, but it looked like no snow stuck to the tires. At least for winter tires the snow stuck to the tires helps maintain traction on snowy roads/trails. Not sure if 3 peak rated ATs are designed to do that.
Sorry for telling that, but you shouldn't have cranked the steering wheel all the way right or left when you're stuck in snow or mud because it works like a barrier.
You never put Ranger in 4 low That’s why the Ranger cut power you were in 4high and the traction control intervenes Try the Ranger in 4 low and your throttle will not be cut Love this Landcruiser
After seeing this video, I am glad I decided to stay with my 150 series land cruiser. It 26:28 have all that terrain control rubbish on it. Just had 4L and lockers to engage when required. I have been through snow twice as deep as what he has been through, with no problem whatsoever. Admittedly, I use dedicated winter tyres, not all terrains. I also like fact I can engage the lockers whether I am stationary or moving in 4H. I think manufacturers are putting to much tech on cars, making them worse. All you need is 4H/4L and lockers, the rest is just troublesome and a waste. Just more things to go wrong.
I might be in the minority here, but I prefer the Ford Ranger of the two vehicles. The Toyota seems very tech laiden, with lots of buttons, switches, options, and potential glitches - yes, I'm aware the Ford did glitch severely. However, the Ford just feels easier to use and a tad more mechanical; a truck vs. a 4-wheel Atari games system.
Another great video👍Other than a snowmobile, I don’t think there’s too many machines that would’ve made it up the top. I’m very impressed with the At 4s on the Land Cruiser.
Great video! I do want to add a risk you left out about driving aired down tires on the pavement. Airing down you tires means the tire can flex more, increasing it's contact patch with the ground. Have you ever taken a paper clip and bent, aka flexed, it back and forth until it broke? If you have and you touched where it broke immediately after you would be surprised how hot it got and lucky if you didn't get a very small minor burn. The bending the paperclip back and forth heats it up. The tires flexing more adds heat too, but at low speeds the heat doesn't build up faster than it can dissipate. However, at highway speeds the heat will accumulate faster than it can dissipate and at a certain point the different layers of the tires construction will delaminate and very quickly thereafter the tire will blow out. This is what was happening with the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire rollovers back in the 1990s. Ford used the same tire on the Explorer that they had spec'd for the lighter Ford Ranger. Then Ford spec'd a tire pressure for the Explorer that was biased towards comfort for the passengers. The spec'd tire pressure was absolutely fine. The problem arose when the tires eventually lost several psi of air pressure. Combine that loss of air pressure with a family of 4 or 5 loading up for the family vacation that they drove to on the interstate and it became a recipe for disaster. This problem is exactly what led to the federal government mandating that all new cars be equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS for short).
Got rid of the 4Runner after it was damaged (with TFL) and due to parts availability it would have taken 6 months to fix. Traded it for a Ford Ranger Tremor which we traded for the Raptor.
Same with a lot of vehicles anymore....undersized engines, and ridiculous price tags....there really isn't anything out there worth looking at they're all the same blah, boring cars anymore copycatting each other.
Why not install a designated winter tire and not an off road tire with winter designation? Doesn’t matter what’s your rigs set up, with no traction you’re going nowhere!
When I went to pick up my Prius the dealer had one and let me drive it. It was really cool I'm sure here in LA it will have no problem crawl its way to the local starbucks :) Price tag was 90K shees!!!
Ryan should do a competition for the cheapest new vehicle that can get up this hill under snow conditions. $80k is a lot of money and even then couldn't get up the hill, not even close. I wonder how close regular SUVs could get using the same tires. Stuff like Mazda CX-50, Subaru Outback, Ford Explorer, etc.
It's only fair to run a older Land Cruiser 200 Series through this gauntlet. That will verify if this new model truly sucks as much as it appears it does.
New Land Cruiser First Edition starts at ~$75k and slightly over $80k OTD. Wondering how many owners are brave (or crazy) enough to drive a $80k SUV in this kind harsh roads. Well, since they're already crazy enough pay $80k for a SUV with Civic engine, I guess it won't be a problem...

@@0HOON0😅 exactly. The Subarus are punching so far above their weight in all these tests compared to these gilded 4wd trucks.
He’s hardly short of cash - personal vehicles - as in vehicles he buys to make videos to ear a lot of money. Still a great channel, of course
Outstanding drone work!
$80k for 4 banger Toyota and people complain about Dodge
Nah, 4banger sips on gas and has more power.
@@noctilucent7396 Sips gas until you actually want to move then it guzzles gas worse than a V8.

The best LC content out there. Hands down! 👏
@9:30 But tire review tell that BFG KO3 are superior in such conditions over Falken AT4W right? So LC traction system now need to work harder.
You have the best snow reviews
18 psi is a lot for off-road especially snow. Snow must be treated like very soft sand. 12psi is max, preferable below 10psi. (Depend on rims and tires)
This Landcruiser Justin looks good. Way better dan those two Lexus and Toyoto’s you showed.
Well next time I like to see you do real progress with snow chains on. I’ll bet you are n top of the hill in no time!
Thanks for the entertaining video. Love your spec. Wheels and tires are perfect look for the vehicle.
Man I love that Landcruiser! Looks good, performs well. . . Those tires are great too. Not gonna let go of my 2 door because of the type of off roading I do though. I was going to suggest that you use trail turn assist when you were crossed up, but yeah. lol
Well I was hoping you would have put the vehicle into crawl control to see if it would have worked its way up that turn!!!
Tires are a huge difference 🤨😀
Great 👍🏽 video…
I owned 2018 4-Runner had so much fun , but looking forward to drive a new Land Cruiser one day!
Great job! I really appreciate all of the external perspectives, well done!
Ryan, have been waiting for this video since you purchased your cruiser.
Super vidéo,, Ryan est au top dans ses essais, merci pour le doublage automatique c’est top 👍👍👍👍
Most gangster snow digging music. Really appreciate it!
Would Crawl Control have helped?
I don’t think so. CC doesn’t like ice.
I wonder how it would have done with some K03s? TFL's recent test of the AT4's in show showed absolutely terrible performance in snow.
See for yourself: th-cam.com/video/7D3XoD_VJxA/w-d-xo.html
@@drivingsports Saw that! neat but on a different platform. Would be interesting to see a redo on the LC with the K03 without the power cutting issue of the Raptor
Different kinds of snow make a huge difference
At $80k as well as dealer ‘markups’ the 4 cylinder is a deal breaker. That engine will need to be serviced more often than most if used in this usual practice. The Honda Pilot Trailsport might be a more practical choice at nearly half the price.🤷🏼
Wonder how the K03's would have performed. Great video.
Another video did a winter test with K03 vs A/T4W. K03 was far superior.
like any all terrains in deep snow. shitty
I would suggest, 14 psi front, 12 psi back, deep snow settings, low 2 and floor it for momentum. Nice video thanks.
YES! Been waiting for this
Love this Land Cruiser! Hopefully it grows on ppl here in the States. I wonder how the GX would do...
Every video I've seen with these AT4W's are substantially worse than the AT3W's in the snow and ice, due to less voids and siping. I'm not going to blame the Landcruiser on this one.
Something tells me you wouldn't blame the LC no matter what.
@paulelledge8977 I don't like the LC at all. I believe the 4 runner will be better in every way. I own a Bronco.
Agreed. Tough to tell if if was the snow conditions or the tires, but it looked like no snow stuck to the tires. At least for winter tires the snow stuck to the tires helps maintain traction on snowy roads/trails. Not sure if 3 peak rated ATs are designed to do that.
@@Just_Joe71 The wild peaks are as good as any of the top tier at tires. It's probably not the LC either, just the surface conditions were difficult.
Sorry for telling that, but you shouldn't have cranked the steering wheel all the way right or left when you're stuck in snow or mud because it works like a barrier.
You never put Ranger in 4 low
That’s why the Ranger cut power you were in 4high and the traction control intervenes
Try the Ranger in 4 low and your throttle will not be cut
Love this Landcruiser
Lessons learned: Always bring a shovel and traction boards in deep snow off-road!
Thank you for these tests! Nothing shows strengths and weaknesses of a vehicle than packed ice and snow on a gradient!
Nothing but a good driver…. I think we could see much better performance out of some of these vehicles
Weakness of the tires in this case. A/T4W is not a good winter tire.
New LC with 2.4 is a peace of S!
Sausage?
In those conditions you need snow chains. No vehicle would make it, doesn’t matter the brand. Snow chains is the way to go, on all four tires
I liked the video! I would have used deep snow mode earlier, if it was available on the raptor you would have done the same and enabled it.
Drives me crazy watching him lift off the throttle just when he shouldn’t. He’s his own traction control half the time.
Do a Bronco Badlands Sasquatch
Another great video👍Other than a snowmobile, I don’t think there’s too many machines that would’ve made it up the top. I’m very impressed with the At 4s on the Land Cruiser.
😂
"Don't stop on ice" then proceeds to stop immediately back on the ice after getting unstuck lol
I liked the video, but I hope you didn't get rid of the 4Runner for the LC.
Got rid of the 4Runner after it was damaged (with TFL) and due to parts availability it would have taken 6 months to fix. Traded it for a Ford Ranger Tremor which we traded for the Raptor.
i vividly remember old video w/ prev version of Cruiser ! there was some kind of cell tower around or some kind of structure.
car went like a tank!!!!
Yeah, that was great snow for the demo.
I just can't get past the facts that it's a 4-banger and it's touching $80K.
@@geeeee8268 inflation

Been waiting for the day your Land Cruiser gets stuck. lol
Well, today is your lucky day! 😂
please compare to rubicon on this offroad
Perhaps 12psi will do the work depending on the tyres
FJ40/FJ45 and LC71/LC76/LC79 are the real Land Cruisers.
puny 4 cylinder hitting its rev limited is so awe inspiring....
Great job rayan👍
Ryan should do a competition for the cheapest new vehicle that can get up this hill under snow conditions. $80k is a lot of money and even then couldn't get up the hill, not even close. I wonder how close regular SUVs could get using the same tires. Stuff like Mazda CX-50, Subaru Outback, Ford Explorer, etc.
I live in Western WA, I would love to take my Tundra on this course!
I hope the engineers at Ford and Toyota are watching your videos!
Those companies only have marketers and salesmen now.
Test a Wrangler Rubicon in these conditions next…
We wanted to but Jeep didn’t have any test vehicles available.
@@drivingsportslol😂 they just dont want to fuckup😂😂 cause they still have new 2023 in stock
Thank you for pronouncing “Falken” correctly.
It's only fair to run a older Land Cruiser 200 Series through this gauntlet. That will verify if this new model truly sucks as much as it appears it does.
Put 3 men inside either vehicle and they can climb that easy and smooth
Exactly, not enough weight
New Land Cruiser First Edition starts at ~$75k and slightly over $80k OTD. Wondering how many owners are brave (or crazy) enough to drive a $80k SUV in this kind harsh roads. Well, since they're already crazy enough pay $80k for a SUV with Civic engine, I guess it won't be a problem...
Nice point
Tires easy would probably be happier as a sponsor if you ordered the tires from them
I've never been a fan of those tires.
We should have got the 300 series. It actually is much better.
Great video
Looks fun👏🏽🥶
I am not a Toyota fan but any vehicle might get stuck on this road, should be several off-road cars in the same class for comparison
Sand = air down, Snow = air down.
