Do What You Like, Like What You Do: Bert Jacobs at TEDxBeaconStreet

  • Bert discusses why Life is good, a positive lifestyle brand, purposely blurs the lines between work, play, for-proft enterprise and non-profit social work. The lessons learned from his personal and professional experiences illustrate that the keys to a happy and fulfilling life are all around us.
Bert Jacobs and his brother John spent five years sleeping in a van and hawking t-shirts in the street before creating the Life is good brand.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Comprehensively the best ted-x talk I've heard yet, delivered in a t-shirt and unmatched shoes, smoothly spoken, while quietly executing the way were socialy conditioned, and condition others, bravo, negativity has no future.
    Just my thoughts : ) .

I liked these sentences best: "We all share the road of life together" and "The only thing that can make us happy is our view on the world". Changing our mind means changing our life. This is so true. We all have the decision of having a beautiful life or not, no matter what we go through. We just need to open our hearts and minds to see something good in everything. That´s how life becomes beautiful.

When you fall in love everything you see seems like God had created it. I see beauty everywhere when I’m in love. When I’m not in love I see far less beauty. Strange phenomenon I know.

I can admit that I do have many flaws, sometimes I’m even greedy. But non of us is perfect, non of us is only good with no flaws. A good person seaks to knowledge ones downfalls and improve ones behavior. Often times being inauthentic or greedy is a way to survive and protect ones self when facing challenges in life. Unlearning that is a difficult task that takes time, but is worth it!

Every once in a while in life you hear something so inspiring that it leaves you speechless. For me listening to Bert Jacobs was one such time. I have never broken a promise to my grandson and was so impressed with Bert’s talk that I called my grandson and told him to get his fiancé and sit down to watch this talk. I “ PROMISED “ him that they would not be disappointed, and you know what? They weren’t. Bert you helped me keep another promise to my grandson. Thank you

“When you change yourself you change the world!” Lyrics by a band named Gojira. Society isn’t some nebulous thing that’s “out there,” it’s Individual people making choices, making statements, interacting with esch other. Society is you. Society is me. It is what we choose to make it every day.

Abe Lincoln said,"you're as happy as you make up your mind to be." good to live by!! sometimes it's hard to ]just stop yourself when you know you're being cranky or contrary and change yor demeaner to a postive cooporative one. but, it's not always easy, when you don't feel like it. your spouse asks you to do something, and instead of argueing, just get going and do it, happily. makes all the difference in the world!!
