    Bets on how many natural sons or daughters Gargon left behind. More or fewer than Lucamore?
    PS. Obviously, I don’t have a problem with people making videos about the Celtigars and calling them “the most forgotten”, I just find it very funny that even when we talk about Harrenhal we don’t even mention House Qoherys. I know they are extinct, but they deserve an honorable mention. For Quenton’s sake.
    Celtigars are underappreciated as a Valyrian House for sure (I mean they have a magical horn, allegedly, and a VS axe ffs), but the most forgotten? They are not.

      Also isn't there another one that isn't talked about? House Scales that own a small keep on the island of Dragonstone? Or are they not Valyrians?

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We do not know if they are Valyrians, first men or Andlas if I remember correctly. Looking at the name tho, not sure they were Qoherys, sounds Valyrian Scales not so much idk, maybe it's me 😂

      @@CompanyOfTheCat I think Scales sounds about right for a small vassal of a valyrian house, the whole dragon idea. My personal theory is they are descendants of the original inhabitants of Dragonstone, or perhaps locals that were raised to nobility by the Valyrians, who took a "dragony" name. Because yeah if they were Valyrian they would probably not have a Common Tongue name.
      So yeah, I think they were inhabitants of Dragonstone that helped the Valyrians and started a new house.

      It also sounds fishy as well as dragony, like many stuff on the Narrow Sea, so yeah most likely natives.

    Another banger of a video. I consider myself as unhealthily obsessed with this world as most. Yet I never once spared a thought for House Qoherys. To be fair, we are in the middle of learning about The Conquest, and quite a few names fly past us.

      The Sea family..Valayrons? They are what Patchface is trying to warn people of. They are COMING-there is an entire world happening under the sea as well. They wanted to recreate Old Valyria, but Old Valyria is dead. And only death can pay for life. The Dance of the Dragons is a war between land and sea Valyrians.

    Great video! I do want to point out that valyrian houses didn't have house sigils or heralds. That was a westros thing.
    We know that aegon, visenya, and rhaenys were the one who made the 3 headed dragon herald and that house Targaryean did not previously have a herald.
    For the celtigar and velaryon heralds, I think it would make sense that they also didn't have a herald before they migrated and made one when they came that reflected the current heraldry trends they saw when they arrived.

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      About the Celtigars and the Velaryons, apart from the names of the Houses, that sound Valyrian, any imagery and custom we have do not reflect Valyria at all. I mean Velaryons have burial customs identical to the Ironborn something else is going on.
      They were naval powers from the start, according to what we learned in Fire & Blood. Velaryon even says they took Driftmark and their throne from the Merling King and Celtigars have an "allegedly" magical horn connected to the sea, that's why I'm not sure what is going on with them.

    • @magister343
      @magister343 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@CompanyOfTheCat The Velaryon customs are not much like the Ironborn, but closer to the Sistermen or other inhabitants of Isles in the Narrow Sea, on the opposite side of the continent as the Iron Isles.
      Valyria had a great many gods and allowed the worship of all sorts of foreign faiths. It would not be unusual for lesser Valyrian families to adopt the gods local to the region they lived. However, the members of the Dragonlord class were usually atheists, agnostics, or agathists, who viewed all religions as false but potentially useful tools for keeping lesser men in line.
      The Celtigar's horn is alleged to summon Krakens, but otherwise its description is pretty much identical to Dragonbinder.
      My tinfoil hat headcanon is that the Celtigars were actually dragonlords once, long before The Doom, and may have been the ones to build Dragonstone. They however relied too much on sorcery such as their dragonhorn and not enough on establishing a close bond with their beasts. Perhaps they were not incestuous enough to keep the dragon genes. Anyway, they lost control of their dragons and then lost their old seat to the previously weaker upstart House Targaryen. The last descendant of the Celtigar dragons is Cannibal, who was rumored to have lived on Dragonstone before the Targaryens arrived but who never let anyone ride him and who killed and ate other dragons because he could sense that they were not related to him. we know Celtigars often tried to intermarry with Targaryens but were refused. Perhaps the Targaryens did not want to risk diluting their blood with that of Valyrians who had already lost control of their dragons. I like to think of the Celtigars as fulfilling the role in the Crownlands/Narrow Sea like that which the Boltons have in the North, the Yronwoods have in Dorne, and the Raynes of Castamere had in the Westerlands. They are a great old house that used to be independent rulers and still think they deserve to be greater than their liege lords.

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what we know, about the Velaryons they have some identical images and customs (From the Sea they came to the Sea they shall return) with the Ironborn, and Ironborn have a very similar culture to the Sistermen (when Sistermen were, still, pirates and raiders), this is why I have made more than one videos about seafaring people in Westeros since it is soooo interesting to me and all of them have common links.
      As for the Celtigars, I'm not sure we have a description at all for the horn, I'm fairly sure we do not have a description actually. We only know it is connected to the sea, they also have an axe and not a sword, something again we see a lot in Ironborn, they have Crabs on their Arms and they were a naval power, it is stated more than once in Fire & Blood. Idk, for what we get both these houses don't sound fiery to me at least.

    It's sort of ridiculous, but I used to wonder if Qyburn is descendant of this house. Mostly tipped by the name.
    There are a couple dangling threads though. Most notably his rather odd interests as a Maester. The skull sent to Dorne might be another nod. Nothing convincing unfortunately.

      @@CompanyOfTheCat how much of a Plumm is Brown Ben? He's probably not. I read a cool theory once that tried to prove Littlefinger is actually a Hoare. Basically premised on the homonym of Hoare and whore. I'm not entirely convinced, but it's an interesting idea that all these families that have held Harrenhall are involved in separate plots to reclaim it. If Qyburn is connected to a previous Lord it's interesting because he's also renamed Gregor for yet another family. The Strongs.

      @@magister343 Not really, no. Tysha could be a member of any family that has held Harrenhall. From Red or Black Harren to I guess even the Whents. I've seen many arguments for several families. They're all interesting.
