    This is a really great video. I've noticed these overtones as well; a turning of the times, that the Hightowers bring on. Interestingly there are many name connections between the Hightowers and Arthurian legend: Uther, Gawain/Gwain, Tristan, etc; and Alicent is really taking on a Guinevere role in HotD.
    As well as Helaena and the Hightowers representing the Hellenistic period, so another layer to this. I totally get what you're saying here.

    So uh, this is amazing!
    I had never connected the Hightowers and the Iron Islands, but the way you laid it out made it seem obvious! Great work!
    Especially building on Crowfood's Daughter of The Disputed Lands channel, your video has now made me need to read into everything about the Hightowers and the Iron Islands, together with Garth the Green stuff. You've tied it all together! Wish I could like a video more than once!

    • @CompanyOfTheCat

      It's, true, but I don't think we have that many examples of whole houses that constantly do things, while walking all over people or ditch people that had their backs. Because for me this is what set them appart, along with houses like Peaks and Freys for example. I cannot say that I don't understand them, but they were very shady most often than not.

      Yup, but most of them were the rullers of the area, that's why I didn't say anything more. Hightowers ditched the whole Reach to save their backs (tbh this instance was the least shady for me tho, I get why they did it)

    • @irondragonmaiden

      I mean, Argilac took the no so badly that he literally murdered the envoy and then got properly murdered. Argilac is a selfish asshole, especially since it was clear he made the offer because he was getting beaten like a drum by the Ironborn, but he's an OBVIOUS one.

    This puts Euron into perspective there is a possibility that he es Karma coming to the hightowers (though the small folk doesn't deserve it).
    Also the flamming tower card in the tarot means disaster as un "huge bad thing" the fall of high tower would mean the the start of the new long night and maybe even the fall of the wall bonus points if Euron fails in resurrecting himself with his ritual but creates a magical chain of events that completely screws everyone.

    Argue with that statement biggest opportunists either Tyrells go from stewards to rulers of the reach, or Lannisters trick their way into the rulers of the west

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Mmmmm I don't know, Tyrells became rulers pretty fairly actually. They were Gardeners from the female line and after Aegon burn them, they were chosen to take over, they didn't get out of their way. In most wars they are pretty much Switscherland or try to have the least losses possible, but again they didn't exactly get out of their way to do it. Only in the current timeline are changing sides constantly and it doesn't go very well for them tbh.
      As for Lannisters I have a video and I don't think they took Casterly just because. And in wars, again, only Tywin was such big of an asshole, in general they are pretty stable on their beliefs and actions.
      Hightowers on the other side...

      Hightowers weren't so bad in the end, when considering their management and stable rule if the greatest City of Westeros.
      Also, what happened to the Female Gardners? Just married into other houses or remained widows, I imagine

    • @thalmoragent9344
      @thalmoragent9344 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lannisters lost a battle and submitted to Aegon, seems straightforward to me 😅m

    • @irondragonmaiden
      @irondragonmaiden 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the biggest issue is that the Hightowers are constantly, mostly through their connection to the Starry Sept, presenting themselves as these righteous individuals. They all but became champions of traditional values in the dance for even a slight chance of getting power themselves.
      The Tyrells are equal opportunists, BUT the Hightowers have them beat in experience in these matters. And, at least the Tyrells get something resembling a mask off moment (similar to how the Lannisters are) in the main story, whereas the Hightowers got away with pathbreaking and attempted usurpation without getting their comeuppance.

    Of course Maris Garth's daughter also screams Fertility Goddess and Earth magic power.

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, I'm not sure about that tbh. At least, I don't see fertility Goddess parallels. I would say Maris and Brandon of the Bloody Blade are the least Garth-y children of Garth, all the others have at least one or two Garth characteristics.

    • @eric2500
      @eric2500 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CompanyOfTheCat They are still Garth's kids, and he's a potent symbol of well, potency.
      And I was thinking of the Hawthorn Giant's daughter in particular - who runs off with a young hero type while her father the giant is out to prevent that -he is retentive of the fertile power, unlike our bouy Garth!

    • @irondragonmaiden
      @irondragonmaiden 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the big difference is that the Peakes DID eventually get their comeuppance through Daeron II going "OK, I tried to be nice, but if you're going to give usurpation a shot, it's time to go scorched earth!" (they had it coming a LONG time ago)
      The Hightowers didn't get their lands and titles taken from them for their own major usurpation attempt during the Dance, so there's a sort of Karma Houdini thing happening with the House as a whole, even if Alicent and Otto got the ultimate punishment of having their specific line die because of their backstabbing usurpation

      About the names I think they are closer to Saxon names and Arthurian Legend names. Otto is quite a common Saxon name, Triston sounds like a modified Tristan, Gwayne sounds like Gwaine and in general many of them have names that remind me the Arthurian Legend.

      Interesting with the Arthurian connection. I honestly didn't know much about it before seeing this video, but I think giving the Hightowers a very specific naming scheme helps sell the idea that they are of a separate ethnicity or culture.

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Redwynes have ties to Garth, they were at least partially a First Men house of the area from the stories we get.
      Their ties with navigation at least from what I understand from the world book were kinda necessary. Something that makes sense considering Arbor was pretty often attacked and under the rule of the Ironborn and they had to find ways to hold them back. House Redwyne had a fleet during the Andal invasion but unlike the Hightowers they are not described as extremely seafaring early on, except from a very vague line about their last King getting lost at sea.
