I had a long time ago Sony A900 and i loved it. Then i've decided to buy SLT - A99. Later i moved to mirrorless camera A7 Mark 1 (and from a-mount to e-mount). And month ago i bought ZV-E1. And it's absolutly great for TH-cam videos. I use 3 lenses: 1. Samyang 35-150 f/2-2.8 FE 2. Samyang 24mm f/2.8 FE and 3. Minolta 50mm f/1.7 with Adapter LA-EA5
Just over a year ago I changed from the Sony A7RII to the A7 IV. I lost a few pixels but gained better focus, menus and battery life. I have now used for Africa and Antarctica and love the upgrade.
Before buying any of these cameras I would suggest depending on your budget check the used Market. For around $900 or $1,500 or even at the $3,000 price range you can get a much better product unless you have to buy brand new.
As a professional who has used the Sony A6300, A6400, A73, A74, and currently the A7S3 I can honestly say that the A73 is the best camera Sony has put out. It’s perfect for photos, provides amazing 4K video, and is inexpensive compared to the new A74. For someone who wants to take photography and videography seriously, I think the A73 is a perfect fit.
How can the A73 be the best camera that Sony has put out when the A74 is objectively better? Like are you seriously saying that if someone offered you either camera for nothing you're going to pick the A73?
@@r_cab314 If you're not making money professionally then pick up an a6100 or a6400 used. If you are making money professionally then the A74 is obviously better than the A73. I have no idea what that guy you're responding to is talking about.
Just last fall, I happened upon a used A7 III with a low shutter count. Try as I might to justify trading it in for a new or used A7 V, I really can’t. The A7 III menu system is bonkers (but worked-around with customization) and the screen that doesn’t flip is odd (but I prefer the EVF, anyway).
After decades as a Pentaxian, I eventually switched to Fujifilm (X-T2, then X-T4) and, a few months back, a Sony A7C. I didn't plan to go with Sony but I found the A7C in classifieds for a ridiculously low price. I couldn't resist. I like the size and, with a compact or pancake lens, it would be perfect to do street of travel photography. In all honesty, I have been looking at a camera that would help me compensate for my shaking hands and failing eyesight. Then Sony came out with the A7IV and the A7RV. I went with the latter. I turn 69 in 2 weeks and I decided that I could make a few $acrifice$ and treat myself for this type of camera. I have 2 say that the A7RV is the best one for me so far! Really enjoying it, even though it may be too much camera for me.
You have a great setup....!! If you do not print big and pixel peep, you can also try a cheap used Olympus E-M1 Mark II or III with its 17mm f2.8 lens. The stabilisation is excellent for helping with shaky hands. I use a mark II myself and suggested the same to my Uncle, who is 72. He is very happy with the weight and stabilisation.
I have been a professional Pentaxian since the 80s (yes, we do exist), but have recently switched mostly to Sony. While I love the build quality, ergonomics, and UX of my Pentax gear (I kept a K-1 and a slew of lenses), the tech of the new Sonys, especially regarding autofocus, is just too awesome to pass up.
We must have followed a similar pattern because I have been a Pentaxian myself since the late 70's (Spotmatic F). I eventually sold my K-1 kit and switched to Fuji and now, to Sony. The Sony AF is too awesome to pass up. Totally in agreement with you.
@@speterlewis & thankfully Sony is actively listening to ppl, the recent a7RV tilt/selfie screen design is a great example, seems optimal to satisfy every type of user (vlogger/photographer etc...)
I think the most important piece of advice for beginners is to BUY USED! Due to the lower price, you can either save money on the same camera, or get a better camera for the same price. Especially if buying from B&H, KEH, Adorama, etc., there is very little risk associated as well.
@@Helix_Bonopart They are older cameras because they were announced before the newer models. Sorry, I just don't understand what doesn't make the a7iii an older camera. It literally came out years before the a7iv. Just because Canon still sells the 6d mark ii and that is considered an old camera. Likewise the a7iii is an older camera. Older means it was produced or announced before the newer model.
One of the great things about the a6600 is its size. Plus the apsc lens line up is great. Pair it with the highly rated 70-350 zoom and whatever Sony or third party lens to fill in the wide range (for example the tamron 17-70) and you have a compact kit for travel photos. We do some motorcycle travel and size matters-haha- small and mighty.

I shoot A7r3 and might eventually replace with a7r5 but in no rush. Complex menus is a very minor issue. If you own the camera you find the settings you want and can store them on several one touch buttons. Tony’s comment on length of time to clear 100 shots is interesting. Talk about spray and pray!
I know you both use Sony and have a lot of experience with all cameras in general. But, the amount of time and effort that went into this video must be mindblowing. I don't shoot Sony. However, I do appreciate the work you put into this video. I feel there should be a second channel with behind the scenes videos. Great job!
Well, I was an early adopter and bought the Sony a7. That camera made me happy. Sony, however, did not like that and release the a7R, then a7II, then a7RII…. Anyway, I keep shooting and ignore the bliss costing more than six times as much. No regrets.😊
I’m a professional using Nikon DSLR system and I’m looking at changing camera systems to Sony. I have no idea of these models so this was helpful thank you
I just purchased the R100VII for my sister and in getting it set up I discovered just how much power is packed into this tiny Point And Shoot camera. I shoot with a Nikon Z7 II and to say I was impressed by the AF system in this Sony is a HUGE GIANT UNDERSTATEMENT. I now understand why the Sony has such a great reputation of it's AF system. The fact that Sony had the wisdom to pack that into a tiny Point and Shoot means that my sister won't ever be disappointed with out of focus images. I am so impressed with this camera I just may get one for myself when the finally come back into stock.
I'm using a ZV-E10 although I know it was design for vlogging/video, I mostly use it for Photography... my reason for that is: - First, I have a bad eyesight that means I always wear a Eyeglasses. So not having a EVF is not a big deal for me. - Second, if we compare a6100 to ZV-E10. ZV-E10 has a latest firmware, better Auto Focus, updated color science. and I mean, seriously the only thing you would consider a a6100 is because of the EVF. but ZV-E10 is better on that price range..
When I first started photography 40 years ago I was a Nikon shooter, but with new digital cameras, I tried shooting with the Nikons they just couldn’t get the focus spot on. So I switched to Sony a7Riii which is great 42 mega pixels. But I couldn’t afford the Sony G master lens’s so here’s what I have Sigma 24mm art lens, 50mm cheap Sony lens, 85mm cheap Sony lens, and the one I love the most is the Samyang 135mm 1.8 lens, it’s amazingly sharp, anyway that’s my lineup. Now looking for a bigger backpack for all my gear. I’ve been using Sony now for about 4 years and loving it.
As a still photographer working within Sony's full-frame mirrorless ecosystem, I was going to go with the FX-30 for my first dedicated video camera. Tony saved me yesterday when I found his video warning about full-frame glass on APS-C sensors. Today's video helped me select a different camera. I'll be using the affiliate link here to make my purchase. Thanks, Tony and Chelsea! You're the best.
I got the A7r ii still, upgraded to A7riv and just picked up the A1. All amazing cameras~ I do mostly stills but the flip screen really would make such a difference for the A1 JUST because of the price point but really happy with all the full frames.
I think you can't beat the A7iv (for hybrid) and FX30 (for video) for value for money. The A1 is the speed king, the A7Rv the high resolution king. The FX3 and A7Siii are best for video, whereby I personally prefer the A7Siii for the viewfinder and the shutter. I am less tempted by all the other models. The older A7Riii is now an absolute bargain, and I always loved the image output out of that camera for photography.
That is the best rundown of the Sony camera line I've ever seen. Thank you! It's a hobby for me shooting photos and occasional TH-cam videos. I'm happy with my ZV-E10 and like the wide variety of lenses available for the E mount APS-C cameras.
As a hobbyist, I bought a ZV-E10 a few months back and completely love every aspect of it. Does just enough for me without chasing every new feature of the higher end models. ZV-E10 all the way!!
@@WdelamareC what do you think about ZV-1? it's noticeably heavier than zv-e10 but still under 500grams which sounds awesome for things like vlogging/travel video & gimbal
@@mirrorlessny The other body are the Sony A7RIVA which is 99.99% the same as the A7RIV, I like to have two Camera bodies that works in the same way. Lenses are many, most used are Sony 14mm 1.8 GM, Sony 24mm 1.4 GM, Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical, Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, some times I also use the Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8, I have just sold my Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 G Lens, so until I find out which Long Tele Lens to get, I use some of my analog Lenses, 300mm 5.6, 300mm 2.8, I have many very good analog Lenses.
@@mirrorlessny I do not like zoom Lenses, yes the Sony 200-600 are a bit heavy and big, it is very well built, it can be very sharp, but on the Sony R-series Cameras there are issues with the stabilizers in the Lens and Camera that do not always work well together, so even if you use a fast shutter speed and you have nailed the focus correct, then images often gets blurred. But it is as far as I know only an issue in the Sony R-series Cameras.
I don't really know why I watch your videos because you usually talk about expensive cameras and equipment. I like to keep it low budget. But your tips on general photography keep helping me continually raise the bar. Keep up the content!
Being a Sony shooter for.over 15 years, this is a great summary of the current offerings. I would, however recommend the the A7RV over the A1 for landscape. At least until a firmware upgrade is available for the A1.
Since i'm not shooting commercially anymore there is no point for me going Sony anymore. The last Sony's i owned were A7 III's and they served me very well. But i sold all of my gear and got a Fuji, added the X-H2 lately. It does everything for my private needs, can shoot 8k if i want, tho i stick to 4k downsampled from 8k. The funny thing is i dont miss my favorite glass i had on the Sony's - the Sigma 135mm 1.8. For the Fuji i grabbed the Viltrox 75mm 1.2 which gives me pretty much the same results. I'd go as far and would say even better than the big Sigma gun. i kept my Godox flashes, just switched the trigger (love that).
Thank you for this video! I was all set to pull the trigger on the a6600, but now I am very torn to go with the A7C. I am transitioning from D750 to Sony mirrorless, and my #1 reason is to shed the weight and regain my love of photography. I am not shooting because it’s too cumbersome and I shake with it too much. Everything I researched said a6600 was lightweight choice and I found some great 2.8 lenses with it that I was excited about, but now I am a bit concerned going from a full frame D750 to the APSC sensor. I do love the price and weight tho. If anyone can share perspectives, I’d love to see them, thank you!
Love from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada! Us entire family of 5, including a 7 year old, is Pentaxian. We have 4 Pentax cameras among us and Pentax lenses to cater to the interest of each of us. On your recommendation on another video, we bought a Canon EOS RP just to experiment with mirrorless world. Cameras are expensive. Lenses cost other extra dollars. We are border-line photography enthusiasts and have decided to use economical cameras and spend money on traveling and on photography instead. We think those Canadian $3000 and above cameras give diminishing returns.
I started with a pair of Yashica Electro 35 rangefinders and a teleconverter and wide converter. I used those until I bought a Canon AE-1 Program. Then into the EOS 35mm system with the Elan 7e. EOS Digital Rebel, EOS 50D, EOS 80D. After I spent a half hour on the phone with Adorama I have a Sony A7IV, an assortment of lenses and memory cards, a flash on the way, a third party manual, and renewed enthusiasm!
Nice overview, you two. One thing I recommend you include in your next review is the key difference in weight between APS-C and full frame systems. The APS_C bodies WITH their respective lens system are often smaller and lighter, and choosing a higher resolution sensor camera could put you on a par with some full-frame systems, something a landscape photographer hiking up mountains could appreciate.
Tony already has some fantastic content comparing sensor sizes. It would be nice to see a video that does a practical comparison of Sony's APS-C and FF systems based on the lenses available for each, and the use cases each are optimal for. Most photos and videos can be taken by APS-C size sensors just fine. It's at the extremes (widest angle, widest aperture, and/or lowest ISO) where FF truly makes a difference. FF also produces sharper results on average since LW/PH is higher for a larger image circle by default due to optical physics/economics.
I don't agree about your assessment of the flash on the a6xxx series, one of the reasons I have not upgraded my a6500 to the a6600 is them removing the flash (the buffer is smaller too). I use it more than you I think i would but it is a great little flash because of the mechanism use to store the flash allows you to use your finger and point the flash up and ceiling bounce it. In a pinch when you need to react fast it is a great little flash to keep that iso down indoors.
Just added a second A99ii to my first one. Most inexpensive and dependable Sony FF currently . 12 fps 42mpx 5 axis in body stabilization Dual slots Very good handling 399 ospdaf points Perfect fit for my photography
I am using an a6000 with a few lenses. It does great work with fast shutter speed, but low light it does struggle. Has a decent amount of noise. But with a tripod and a remote, I am able to take good star trail, and milky way shots. Luckily I have a proper flash. I do plan to get a full frame, just wasn't sure which one. I am on the fence with the a7iv and the a7Riii. I am doing portrait and landscape work, so I do plan to get 2 or three lenses for that body. I will keep the a6000 as a back up, just in case, and also to quickly switch to a lens for the situation.
Truly like the A7c; it’s appeal is really it’s size, but don’t most of the ff lenses pretty much defeat it’s purpose for travel? It seems like the APSC line a much better fit if you want something that can fit in a large pocket and want to be able to get outside (hiking etc). Total gear should be around 1kg or only a bit more in my view. Appreciated the overview!
I need to replace my travel camera, Tony tell Sony reps we need a new aps-c camera. A beast to compete w/ r7 like an a6 and compact beast to compete with r10 like an a6c. Yes, we need to dish the extra zeros on aps series.
The a6600 is a big step up from the other a6xxx. You might check it out. Great for travel photography and paired with the Tamron 17-70 and Sony 70-350, makes a good lightweight kit.
I was an A7iii early adopter in 2018 and it's still going strong, I also have an A6400 that I picked up a few weeks ago as a good travel camera, replacing my A6300 that's now used as a webcam. I love how compact and portable they are and I love the amount of 3rd party lens support they've had in the last several years, the days of adapting lenses are done I think. I do wish Sony would do something about the ergonomics though, would it kill Sony to add a joystick to their APS-C bodies? That control layout is mostly unchanged since the A6000 9 years ago.. Thankfully the AF is so good you barely need it. Cheers!
Another great video guys! I am still head over heels in love with my a7siii after 2 and a half years. I do wish that Sony would give us a firmware update with focus breathing comp and animal eye in video, but other than that, I feel like my camera is still one of the best in class for video, and I am STILL blown away by the footage I take. Best camera I ever owned by far! I primarily shoot video but it works really well for me as a hybrid, the photos I get are excellent quality especially when paired with my Sony glass. I do also have a cheeky Fuji XT4 which I adore for photo only shoots when I want to feel a bit old school, but my a7siii is my go to and my pride and joy. What I adore about Sony cameras is autofocus. rarely missing a shot is huge when you are low on time, light is changing or you are filming out in the real world you have no control over. And yes I agree the 9 million dot viewfinder is INSANE and that is why I would still pick the a7siii over the ZV-E1 or FX3 every time - I use it all the time when shooting outside and it's critical in sunshine and even more so in places like beaches where there is a lot of sun and ambient reflection. I don't think the viewfinder gets talked about enough! Can I just quickly mention HLG and HDR production - I got into this last year on my a7siii and now shoot all my real estate in HLG3 and its looks INSANE. I'm kinda shook that more people aren't producing HDR content online, as Dolby Vision video will automatically play in SDR if no HDR screen is detected it's a win win and TH-cam fully supports it you just upload one HDR file that's it! Anyway sorry went off piste it just looks SO GOOD! Love watching your videos because I am just so into camera gear and love geeking out with you, I feel part of the club I know that's sad 🤣
Had a6400 and a7III, both great cameras. Then the Nikon Z5, poor autofocus once you get used to the Sony, but it takes great photos. I am now using a Canon R6II and currently the best I have ever used, it also has the best grip. Among the top aps-c cameras that I have used is the M50 mark II, very high-quality photos for little money, just buy ef-m 22mm f/2.
Right now A7III is only $1698 at B&H and elsewhere, $300 off . The A7iii is STILL a highly relevant camera today and a bargain at this price point. Would I rather have an A7RV?, yes!, but the price excludes my budget. I own an A7iii and what I saved in purchase price has afforded me to purchase more lenses.
Such a great video. The best I've seen so far compare and explain the Sony Series. Love your Video! I have the A7c, totally happy with and fit to all of my needs. Everyone who wants to start in the Sony World should watch your video first. 😉 Thanks
Just started watching this but I have to say REALLY??? Where was this a week ago? I had my A6000 for 6 months and decided it was time to go up and I argued with myself for weeks over the A7 iii and the A7r iii. Adorama made my mind up for me. They put up a used 7r iii for a price I could NOT pass up and pulled the trigger. I have absolutely no regrets!!! Thank you though for this video. I know there are thousands out there like me having a hard time making the same decision.
Between my wife and me we have the Sony a6000, a1, a2. We love them all. I do mostly Astrophotography but also wildlife, and landscape photography. I also have Canon, Fujifilm , and Pentax cameras. I love photography. Great information on these new cameras. Thanks.
@@mirrorlessny if he finds it for $1000 then sure. if its closer to $2000 then the canon r6 is a better deal. the modern cameras have more fps and better autofocus.
I love my FX3 for anything on the go since it is good for photos and video. It also serves as a great B-Cam for my FX9! My typical client shoot setup has been a static FX9 and a moving FX3 on a gimbal (mostly weddings so far, a couple documentaries, and some training videos). I decided on those cameras because I had a semester of University funds leftover due to circumstances around 2020 (take a guess), and I had the choice of either down paying student loans or investing in nicer equipment I needed for school anyways but could use for professional situations as well. While new life choices and adventures have led me to not use them as much for client work, I still love them and use them a lot for personal projects ^_^ I won't lie though, the A1 is very tempting, though I kinda want to wait for the next generation of it since my current gear is doing me good in most every situation and I have been able to adjust my shots enough to get what I need.
Good idea explaining the models and usage, help to understand a complex product group. Would like to see this in other brands. I shoot with the A1 and a A7r4 as a second, just a hobbyist doing it for fun.
@@TonyAndChelsea thanks I looked back and found the Cannon version. I’m in Sony’s camp, the lens investment keeps me locked in. Good to know the different brands.
The a7RIVA is a powerhouse of a camera, don’t underestimate the AF performance, it isn’t complex either like the RV. Buying used in excellent condition costs somewhere in the range of $2,200.. that is bargain!
I think the best camera is what one presently owns and learns how to use. I have had a Sony a6500 for nearly 5 years and I am still learning how to use it and I take lots of photos and videos of the grandkids and family events. It’s much better than a phone camera. I do like the built-in flash. It’s not perfect but it has a great response time compared to a hot shoe flash and the results (at least for me) are comparable. Plus, less cumbersome to carry around. I looked at upgrading to the a7C but with the lenses I already have I could not justify the investment even with trading in my camera body and lenses. If a made a living with photography, I certain my response would be totally different. I enjoy your videos. I’ve picked up some useful hints/techniques to improve my photography. When shooting grandkids and family parties there is not time to stage a photo (no one wants to cooperate). It becomes one of those “now or never” moments. Thanks for you videos.
Your video has helped loads I'm new to photography and have been looking for a camera but couldn't decide with all the different brands and types of camera out there. Finally decided on the Sony a6100 so the extra cash can be used for better lenses. You guys are awesome keep up the good work.
Guys, great summary of the upper end of the market but what about the RX range? My daily is my RX100 VII, sure it’s a 1” sensor etc etc but it’s the camera I take almost everywhere because of its size and capabilities. There is also the RX10 IV, and before you choke on your coffee it’s a great camera for someone like my wife who enjoys photography but doesn’t want to become involved with multi lens cameras. Every photographer is different and Sony have some great entry level and casual amateur cameras for those who aren’t satisfied with smart phones, thank you Sony
I have the A9 and I use it for wildlife because I want the 20 fps. For landscapes, I kept my older A7Rii. I was considering the A1, but for that much money, I want what Olympus/OM systems calls ProCapture. Get with the program, Sony. I'll upgrade when Sony add's ProCap. Otherwise, I'm using my Olympus for wildlife that might move and offer me great launch shot.
Thank you so much! new to photographer and have been hunting for a sony but really had no clue which one! This was the best video ive come across in weeks of searching!
I've owned a number of Sony cameras over the years, but my favorite one thus far is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10IV. With a built-in 24-600mm equivalent lens that is sharp throughout the range, it's great for when you need to travel light. The RX10 line hasn't been updated for many years despite the rumors, but it's still great for so many shooting situations. Sony, if you're listening, I'm still looking for an RX10V.
I LOVED my RX10iv and I'm loving my a9. I am waiting for used a1 prices to get down to the $3500 range. That lens on the RX10 is insane, but the sensor really falls apart in low light.
Just got a a7ii with lens kit with 2800 shutter actuations. For $400!!!!!! Loving it!!! First Sony camera! But now that I got a taste of Sony! My eye is on a used a7rii. Is it worth the switch????
I'm still using the A7R2 and though I spend a lot of time looking at the R5 I spend even more being happy with what I'm getting from the R2. I'd recommend it still as it's a steal used. All the bells and whistles? No, not even dog eye, but it's a great entry point to get going, to build up your lenses, and to figure out what the next step will be and why.
I recently got an a7ii brand new for less than $1000. Although it's a few years old, its been great so far. Its my 1st full frame camera. Looking forward to adding some new glass for it. Already got the 50mm f1.8
literally just bought an a7rii for under 1k shipped. from adorama even. great condition 21k shutter count. used can be good. feel like i got lucky with the shutter count.
I am a Sony still Photographer user (I never do video), I will recommend these Sony Cameras, if your are on a very tight budget, then the Sony 6100 or 6400, if you want a better Camera then Sony A6600. If you want the best overall, Sony Camera then the Sony A7RIIIA, Sony A7RIVA or Sony A7RV.
Sony is quite a good system because it gives you plenty of options for different budgets. That is why I'm shooting using A9, which I was able to get (used) for 1999 Euro. Mechanical shutter in used camera doesn't matter as it is meant to be used with electronic shutter mainly ...
pawelmod, me to..i had a 7III first, but wanted more mgp and bought a used 7RIII... but no the AF a didt like and 42mgp was allright but no great combo with my 200-600 it felt strange, until I bought a used A9(2100 euro) I was sold...24mgp stacked/ the tracking/ 20 fps / and the electronic shutter its great...I do wildlife and planes///greets from the Netherlands
I started during the pandemic with shooting birds in flight. The Sony RX10IV was my first camera. It was great. Upgraded to the a6400 but it was too slow for action and I fortunately found a used Sony a9 for a 1700 Euro deal, with a 3 year warranty from Sony. I will never look back :-)
I shoot my kids marching band performances with an a6600. I am constantly in high+ mode and hitting to buffer. I’d love to move up to the a1. I know that camera is way more than I need, but I’d rather have too much than too little. Honestly, the A7iv is probably more than I need with the unlimited buffer from the CF Express card.
@@idol031808 yeah 24 1.4 is probably the best optically corrected lens by sony. But I needed a bit more reach so I opted for 20mm. Also planning to buy 16-35gm ii when it will be released
Thanks so much for the best video ever it is very helpful till now and I am a beginner at photography I really love photography and I want to work as a Photographer and I choose to go with a Sony a6400 and 18-135mm lens I don't know which lens to buy next, I shoot mostly bportraits and travel photography I appreciate it and if anyone can help me out with choosing another lens will be great to me ❤❤
You left out the RX100. ??? My grandkids are going to Europe and the RX100 VII is what I was thinking of getting them because of the built in zoom, no camera bag, stabilization, good auto focus and easy to shoot.
Thank you, amazing video. I still shoot with the A73, but I'm longing for some fresh air .. especially bc I got the new 70-200GMII. I'm eyeing the A7R5 now... but I hesitate because I know that in 2 years it might as well be outdated again...
I use an A7rIV and just started shooting wildlife so I very much suffer from focus hunting and buffering. I need to upgrade when the budget permits. Also have an A6600 for second camera.
I run an a7RII for portraits and landscapes. And an a7IV for faster paced subjects. Events, sports (not the best, but much better than my R2...) Sony 24-70GM and Tamron 17-28 f2.8
you guys forgot to mention a camera line up the sony RX100 line up 😅 a perfect pocket point and shoot camera. Perfect for traveling and street photography. It's still kinda expensive. The last model was the 2019 sony RX100 VII camera ($1300New) it's a mighty tiny rocket 🚀
@@Croquetfilm Yes of course, but for my non proffessional light usage I set the cam to sleep after 60 sec and it wakes up instantly with a prod ont' button.
Hi Tony and Chlesea, thanks for all of the great info always. Quick question, I purchased a Sony A7IV when it came out and I love it. But, I am noticing with my sports photography I need a second camera. I was wondering if in 2023 is the Sony A7 9ii still worth picking up? I am just an amateur photographer and don't really make a lot of money selling downloads or prints. But, it is nice extra money. And I know the new A9 may possibly be coming but, not sure I will want to spend the extra cash for it. Thoughts and different ideas?
Sorry folks I still like my R5 for birds and wildlife. Less expensive than both the A1 or A9ll and the results are fantastic. Using the RF100-500 (agreed not cheap). Thanks for the Sony look.
cant get wrong with any brand at this age. however. The rf lenses cost like a bomb. They are very big and heavy too. If you’re happy using it then why not. They are all good.
Great video which you don’t see elsewhere covering all current Sony lineup. Seeing this video of Sony lineup proved that Sony definitively know the current market of cameras and knows that this market is not solely defined by photography or Cinema as Canon does. There is vlogging, run and gun video.
Great overview...getting 4th SONY camera...used again but give it TLC and it's fine. I was confused over lineup and I sold cameras...albeit decades ago. Thanks for the clarity.
I shoot youtube videos with A7III and its more or less getting the job done. I want to know if its worth upgrading to zv1 that sony just announced. Is in body 10 bit footage worth it? I saw your zv1 review and loved tony's faux skater moves while showing the follow feature on zv1.
As a Canon owner this was interesting. I have a large number of Canon EF L lenses and own a 5DMKIV. I was in no rush when Canon's first mirrorless cameras came out but time has moved on and now I'm starting to look and think about where to go next. Do I jump the Canon ship or do I use these EF lenses with a RF mount and wait for the R5mkii (maybe next year), but then I think about how much the cost of that body will be, it's going to be eyewatering. Sony is appealing. It's a difficult situation to be in. I do seem to really like the colours that come out of Canon's sensors and jumping systems is by no means an easy feat for a hobbist or one that can be taken lightly.
I got a second hand R5 in the mean time. To me it looks like really the only good Sony options are the a1 to expensive and maybe the a7r5.. like the Sony lenses though, but not the express card typeA (very expensive)

Hi I should I upgrade from A6000 to A6400 in 2023?
I had a long time ago Sony A900 and i loved it.
Then i've decided to buy SLT - A99.
Later i moved to mirrorless camera A7 Mark 1 (and from a-mount to e-mount).
And month ago i bought ZV-E1. And it's absolutly great for TH-cam videos.
I use 3 lenses:
1. Samyang 35-150 f/2-2.8 FE
2. Samyang 24mm f/2.8 FE
and 3. Minolta 50mm f/1.7 with Adapter LA-EA5
Just over a year ago I changed from the Sony A7RII to the A7 IV. I lost a few pixels but gained better focus, menus and battery life. I have now used for Africa and Antarctica and love the upgrade.
For new buyers of Sony Cameras I will mention that the Sony A7RIIIA ($2,498) with 42 megapixels which are the same price as the Sony A7IV.
I have been debating between the two. Thanks for this comment
@@Dvlx1 thank you for further input Alan.
Agreed on Sony AF...!! Its phenomenal
And MPB for those who are looking for a site
I wish we had an MPB, KEH or B&H in Canada. Would make it much easier to buy secondhand gear.

They are not mentioning “older” cameras. Sony still sells those “older” models new.
They forgot the very good Sony A7RIIIA which is a very good buy for that price.

One of the great things about the a6600 is its size. Plus the apsc lens line up is great. Pair it with the highly rated 70-350 zoom and whatever Sony or third party lens to fill in the wide range (for example the tamron 17-70) and you have a compact kit for travel photos.
Great job!
What camera you used? Can i ask, Are Fujifilm is a good one?
Well, I was an early adopter and bought the Sony a7. That camera made me happy. Sony, however, did not like that and release the a7R, then a7II, then a7RII…. Anyway, I keep shooting and ignore the bliss costing more than six times as much. No regrets.😊
Best overview of the sony lineup I've seen. Never could make sense of their lineup as a Nikon shooter, now it kind of makes sense. Thanks.
I’m a professional using Nikon DSLR system and I’m looking at changing camera systems to Sony. I have no idea of these models so this was helpful thank you
My a6000 and a7II are all I need for what I shoot.
I'm using a ZV-E10 although I know it was design for vlogging/video, I mostly use it for Photography...
my reason for that is:
- First, I have a bad eyesight that means I always wear a Eyeglasses.
Thank you!!!
Tony and Chelsea - Great overview of Sony lineup, simplified and practical.
I love the the flash on my A6000! Reason? You can tilt it! Not just straight up, but even backwords! Been a lifesaver in many tight situations!! 🙂
@@WdelamareC Excellent, Walter! Yea, it's amazing what the ZV-E10 will do. It's certainly good enough for me.
@@WdelamareC what do you think about ZV-1? it's noticeably heavier than zv-e10 but still under 500grams which sounds awesome for things like vlogging/travel video & gimbal
For wildlife photography the A1 is just perfect. I have two bodies I recently used on safari in Africa with 70-200 and 400 lenses respectively
I also do wildlife (and a lot of other photography), I use also two Camera bodies, but I prefer Sony A7RIV !
@@cameraprepper7938 what's the other body, & what lenses?
@@cameraprepper7938 how did you like 200-600, seems heavy :( but I like that it's internal zoom
Great video. I shoot with Sony FX30. I actually prefer the new APSC sensor and more choices on the lens side.
Just the video I needed! I’m window shopping for a bird camera, and the A7RV might be the one. Thanks. And Chelsea is a timeless beauty!
Coming from Nikon these are my daily drivers:
• webcam: A7C for all my Teams meetings,
• photography: A1 and D850 - both give me a great ease of mind.
Just added a second A99ii to my first one. Most inexpensive and dependable Sony FF currently .
12 fps

Perfect fit for my photography
This right here. We are long overdue for a photo-centric APSC. Getting tired of everything being for vloggers and video. Would love an apsc a9 or a1.
What are your preferred settings for HLG3 video? And how do you manage the color space in your NLE when you're editing?
Had a6400 and a7III, both great cameras. Then the Nikon Z5, poor autofocus once you get used to the Sony, but it takes great photos. I am now using a Canon R6II and currently the best I have ever used, it also has the best grip. Among the top aps-c cameras that I have used is the M50 mark II, very high-quality photos for little money, just buy ef-m 22mm f/2.
Hey would you say the r6ii is better than the sony?
Which Sony camera does your question refer to?@@Asmajahangir23

The a7RIVA is a powerhouse of a camera, don’t underestimate the AF performance, it isn’t complex either like the RV. Buying used in excellent condition costs somewhere in the range of $2,200.. that is bargain!
I bought my A6000 kit for like $300
How’d you manage that?
@@CiaranCorcoran I got my first M43 kit Olympus PEN E-PM2 for like $199, that was long time ago, almost 10yrs?
And i got mine for 279€ which is just under 300$. I was looking for a deal like this for a while and found a used one a few weeks ago

Currently I am using 6400. Thanks for the comparison. I need to go for a7 iv
Thank you so much!! Have been looking for a clear explanation of the differences between Sony’s offerings and this was exactly what I needed
Sony camera preserves value amazingly well. The a7iii stayed at just below $2000 for years, and I sold my a6600 almost with no loss.
thx for the video...navigating the naming and different models and how they relate to each other is an absolute nightmare
Still plodding along with my A6000. I really do like it. I think you can get it for under $500 US for the Kit.
As a Sony shooter, I am considering getting the R8 just because I like canon color
The RX100 VII should get an honourable mention?
(The best camera is the one you have with you!)
I noticed exposure changes, something like here 12:12, is that because auto-exposure is set to face priority?
Thank you Tony and Chelsea for this fun educational video about Sony cameras.
I have sony a7iv. I am into night sky & landscape photography. I generally paired it with 20mm f1.8. now planning to buy 50mm f1.4gm
24 f1.4 provides nice wide angle for astro
@@idol031808 yeah 24 1.4 is probably the best optically corrected lens by sony. But I needed a bit more reach so I opted for 20mm. Also planning to buy 16-35gm ii when it will be released
Thanks so much for the best video ever it is very helpful till now and I am a beginner at photography I really love photography and I want to work as a Photographer and I choose to go with a Sony a6400 and 18-135mm lens I don't know which lens to buy next, I shoot mostly bportraits and travel photography I appreciate it and if anyone can help me out with choosing another lens will be great to me ❤❤
Which one is the best for candid photography/portraits?
Thank you guys for all the info on all these cameras.
For Sony, I've got an A9 + 200-600, great for wildlife, and waiting for the A9iii or A1ii.
Congrats for Adorama. Win-win.
You left out the RX100. ??? My grandkids are going to Europe and the RX100 VII is what I was thinking of getting them because of the built in zoom, no camera bag, stabilization, good auto focus and easy to shoot.
I love my a1. And pretty fond of Tony and Chelsea videos. Thanks guys.
I love Adorama, been buying from them for years. Next time I will use your link.
Thank you all again for this wonderful video describing all of the pros and cons of the Sony camera line. Great vid. Liked and subbed.
Got my A72 about 3 years ago for 550 bucks still works great.
Events, sports (not the best, but much better than my R2...)
Sony 24-70GM and Tamron 17-28 f2.8
you guys forgot to mention a camera line up the sony RX100 line up 😅 a perfect pocket point and shoot camera. Perfect for traveling and street photography. It's still kinda expensive. The last model was the 2019 sony RX100 VII camera ($1300New) it's a mighty tiny rocket 🚀
Had my A7R2 for 5 years, I like it immensley! (42mp) Do North Yorkshire landscapes for my web with it.
Yeah it's still useful for landscapes! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be made anymore. Battery life is a PITA!
@@TonyAndChelsea 👍
Get extra batteries.
@@Croquetfilm Yes of course, but for my non proffessional light usage I set the cam to sleep after 60 sec and it wakes up instantly with a prod ont' button.
Have you done one for Fuji yet? Or is that still in the works?
Not yet but we can!
Noticed people don’t talk about a7 ll when they’re talking about a7 series, why is that?? Isn’t it not worth mentioning?
Sorry folks I still like my R5 for birds and wildlife. Less expensive than both the A1 or A9ll and the results are fantastic. Using the RF100-500 (agreed not cheap). Thanks for the Sony look.
Yeah the R5 is still our #2 pick for wildlife after the A1 and it's a way better value.
cant get wrong with any brand at this age. however. The rf lenses cost like a bomb. They are very big and heavy too. If you’re happy using it then why not. They are all good.
Great video I never seen a video like this great work keep it up
Great video which you don’t see elsewhere covering all current Sony lineup.
Jumping ship doesn’t make sense financially! Unless you have thousands of dollars to waste. Your call 😊
Yes! My nose also loves the positioning of EVF in 6400 :D
