Lackoffaith Nice job putting words in my mouth and missing the point. People who say kh1 has bad air combos but don’t even know how to do them properly is stupid. Has nothing to do with being aloud to criticize the game’s combat or not.
Could be because they were only reaction commands in the FM version? I played FM for the first time last year and was surprised to see them. (But to be honest I don't remember if the limit attacks used the triangle button in the original game or not.)
@@tesser3569 Nah in the original Kingdom Hearts for PS2, you had to scroll down to the last option in your command menu in order to use them. You can imagine how annoying it was, but I was able to get a couple of ragnaroks off when I was younger. I'm imagining how sweet the game would be with the reaction commands
This is due to the fact that when it was originally released there was no triangle ability, it was added into the final mix after being so popular from KH2 (I think it started with this game, not too sure tbh)
this is actually pretty good advice, i'm more of an x masher but it's interesting to see the difference in mixing up fighting styles to deplete an enemy's hp so much quicker

@@cliffturbo2146 Nah it's mash X and once in a while triangle. I don't get why people always act like all you need is triangle. Most reaction commands are just counter moves, dodge moves etc.
Sadly mashing works wonders in KH if you just play on normal which is again sadly 80%+ of KH players. Most people also never bother with optional content and super bosses at all which is so weird to me. People can play like they want but people are missing out on so much content not just in KH games. Beating super bosses or games on harder difficulties always feels great.
Awesome vid that should be great for newcomers or people who want to improve. One tiny thing I want to correct, tho, is that Goofy's MP Gift is actually linked to the "Support Actions" segment of the customize menu and not MP Items. Just a minor detail.

Introduced my friend to this series - it’s not really the type of game he usually plays and he was in the crowd of mash X to win about the series - and I almost gave up cause I was getting lowkey bummed out that he wasn’t liking it (to each their own) and then he said he would actually sit down and play the game properly - actually watch all the cutscenes instead of skipping them, etc - and while doing this yesterday on the destiny islands tutorials, he found the short hop ‘tech’ by himself while fighting Riku. He beat him 100 times (😂) and he’s on Deep Jungle now. I have some hope he’ll get through to the end of the game and actually enjoy the game play cause I know he’s gonna cry at the story. TLDR I’m excited. Thank you for this video, perhaps I’ll play through this game after work and see if I can catch up before he gets to the end ( I doubt it) but this will help me be better at it🎉
I know this video is quite old at this point but some clarifications based on more recent findings: "Damage Storage" isn't actually a multiplier, booster, or anything like that. It doesn't interact with Sora's damage *output* in any way. What's actually happening is it's changing minimum damage *input* on enemies who have at least 300 base health (ie 1 full bar). When you have EXP Zero equipped and swing a normal, basic, non-ability modified keyblade swing it sets "Tier 1" exp 0 storage. If you swing a non-ability modified finisher it sets "Tier 2" exp 0 storage and if you either take the ability off, leave the room, use a limit, or swing an ability modified ability like vortex, slapshot, hurricane blast, etc, it effectively sets "Tier 0" or undoes exp 0 storage. Tier 1 sets the minimum damage an enemy can take to their hp divided by 300 plus 4 [(eHP/300)+4] Tier 2 doubles that, so [((eHp/300)+4)*2] This applies to of course magic, summons and finisher hits as you'd expect, but does not apply to basic hits that set Tier 1 storage, they themselves can't benefit from their own modified state. This is why using Mushu on Ansem who has 1500 hp deals 18 damage per shot, no matter what, as long as you used a finisher. You don't even have to land the finisher Sora just has to swing it, so Combo Master works too. This also means that your MP is irrelevant for the purposes of damage calculation. 3mp Mushu and 18mp Mushu deal exactly the same damage to Ansem in final fights, because what's being changed is a property of Ansem, not a property of Sora's damage. What's very interesting about this, however, is normally resistances are applied after damage caps. An enemy, like Ansem for example, who has a 0.49x vulnerability to Fire, and a maximum damage intake of 20, can only take 9 damage from Fire, even with ridiculous and otherwise impossible MP. We would expect that if all that was being changed was the minimum hit, this wouldn't change anything. Even if Fire dealt 18 damage it should get halved to at least 9. But Tier 1 and Tier 2 minimum hits ignore resistance, allowing even a 1mp base level fire to deal the full 18 damage. Of course, more MP is better for number of casts, but since the normal maximum hit is exceeded by the new minimum hit, damage is effectively not calculated, it becomes a flat rate. Another interesting aside is that knowing this, when you use Genie you want to see as many blue orbs as possible. His blue orbs hit 5 times per orb for a weak damage number, his yellow orbs hit once for twice that value, and red orbs hit once for twice the yellow orb's value. So with Tier 2 storage, Blue Orbs are doing five times the damage of a Red Orb, when it should theoretically only be a 25% damage increase.
This has potential to be a pretty great series. I love how plainly and clearly you explain things in all of your videos so this kind of thing is perfect for you. Really looking forward to seeing ones for all the other KH games. Not sure what other games you could do this for but I'll be intrigued to see them too. I especially appreciate your bit about the Damage Storage trick since I'd heard about it years ago but never quite understood just how it worked. I really thought the 'On/Off' edits were a nice touch to perfectly demonstrate how to use it. I also didn't realize it still worked when you weren't Lv.1. xD
I wish you continued this series. It’s a neat idea and I wish you had covered the rest of the series. I’ve been playing the series since the beginning but there are a few things I still never even knew about
I would add some info about EXP Zero when activated: -Boss Lv scales with Player Lv, but not with regular enemies (Colosseum cups being an exception). -There's a special Second Chance that only activates when being at full HP, so you can't die with a single hit. Nice video, Dean! 😉
The last thing only works on LV1 with the default amount of HP, and if you boost your HP in anyway it doesn't work anymore. It's made so you can always take 3 hits (from most attacks) and still survive as far as I remember, but I haven't played KH1.5 in a long time so I could be wrong.
I’m so glad that Parrying is favored over actual Guarding, I recently went through KH 1 for the first time so I didn’t know if Guard was something people used and found myself preferring regular parrying rather than using guard ever
Parrying imo takes more skill so it can be difficult if you don't have a lot of experience with the game. Guarding is usually easier but you don't have as many opportunities for tech points and such. Really just depends on how comfortable you are in KH1's combat, which isn't always the smoothest.
Its so nice seeing my favorite one of these games get some love and attention. A lot of people like to bash on the combat in this game but don't really have that much of an understanding of the actual mechanics of the game. My personal favorite KH1 combat mechanic is probably Recoil. Having a good recoil can make certain weapons that would otherwise be replaced pretty quickly(Three Wishes for example) actually worth keeping around for longer since they let you go for parries and guards that would otherwise be ill advised. Sometimes with the likes of Metal Chocobo and Olympia you can even end up with a Frame Advantage against bosses from these clashes while on the ground even without Counter Attack equipped, its pretty cool(to be fair it often takes multiple clashes in a row to actually become useful).
I just wanna say you are a hero for standing up for the platforming and for pointing out that the “Donald doesn’t heal” memes are not only unoriginal but not accurate if you take two seconds to customize him
I've been playing KH1 for almost 16 years and have been subscribed to this channel for a couple years but I still didn't know everything in this video. Very nice work and I would love to see you do this for more games!
Another good tip for parrying in my opinion is also using sliding dash, especially when paired with counterattack. I’m playing through KH again right now for the first time since I was a kid and just realized how handy the ability is. The dash itself causes parrying to be automatic if your enemy happens to be using a move that can be countered. It completely kills that recoil effect from the guard and paired with counterattack allows you to combo insanely afterwards. In some instances you can just spam attack certain bosses to the point where they have trouble attacking back lol
Bambi is great for spamming AOE spells like Thunder, blizzard and gravity on a crowd of enemies. In addition if you manage to fill the bard you get an item which will help you in savings money and with synthesis.
Thank you for this guide! I decided recently to play through the whole kingdom hearts series for the first time (Only actually played KH2 in its entirety before, but I have watched playthroughs of everything up to KH3) and a lot of what was mentioned here will help out! Biggest things I took away was the short hops, forget about the guard skill, and keyblades have different counter-attack windows.
First time viewer, I really LOVED this video! I was very impressed by this video, just in general. Your deliveries are pretty great, and the info and edit was GREAT. I look forward to more from you....
I just found this video and thank you very much! I hope you're doing alright chief and even if it's old, it's good to watch some of your videos again. Been off youtube for a while but I'm starting to watch more ^^
did you ever make a video like this on any other kingdom hearts? you really should this is great even though I found it a bit late because I just finished my lvl 1 run a few months ago. keep it up!
This is great, thanks! I love the KH series and I’m going to play through them all for the first time. I’ve only played the main console games, so I’m going to start a run through on hard for the first time and I know I have bad habits and some button mash tendencies! Haha
I've replayed KH1 many, many times. Went into this video not expecting much, but almost all of it was new information to me. I'm super impressed, great job. Subscribed, I'm excited for more.
I have a friend I'm trying to get into KH through KH1 and I'll try showing em videos like this to help them learn it better! I love this game's gameplay and feel very much but I didn't realize how much wasn't clear to most first time players that I kinda just picked up naturally. This is a very nice resource for games like it and I'm glad to see a general guide like this that isn't just a walkthrough or something!
The secret tip that will make you better instantly especially against bosses is to just not spam attack blindly. Actually wait for an attack, dodge/guard/parry and then deal damage, this applies to almost any action game or action rpg. There are times where spam works but only if you know when and what to spam. It's so weird how many people just overlevel and spam. Everyone can play like they want but imo it's not much different from just watching a walkthrough with slightly more input, but it's probably also the reason why 90% of people will never go higher than easy or normal. Learning to actually play the game well is half the game imo.
I just finished KH1 yesterday, and I was thinking seriously in playing it again to get some missing trophies, so I'm pretty sure those tips are going to be VERY useful! Thank you a lot, keep up with the good work and a happy 2020!
kh1 was the one kh game i never played, i started w COM and then 2 and so forth, after purchasing Kh3 re:mind i really wanted to go back and replay the entire series up until the dlc and i was surprised by how different the combat and mechanics are in kh1 compared to the rest of the series, definitely took some getting used to, and this video helped me so much, SUPER USEFUL VID!! thanks for the hard work man, would love to see one for Kh2 (the goat)
Level grind. Each new area shoot for at least 5 levels, more if you are able.(with exception the the tutorial area, Destiny Islands, you may be able to get 4-5 levels before tech points alone aren't enough to get you up another level without a degree of patience).
I personally didn't learn much from this video. But seems like a great guide for new people! With the games coming to Switch this guide should be getting some attention!
I'd actually love this for 2 or 3. 3 specifically with the new abilities you get. It looks like you've taken a bit of a break from videos. But if you ever come back, I hope to see those some day. :)
Kingdom Hearts 3 -Counter Kick/Impact/Slash -> Final Blow = Counterboost works during the entry Combo, even with Magic (works also with Form Changes like Highwind and Second Form) -Magic Galvanizer works also with Grande Magic and during normal combos, every hit = 10% Damage Increase (Ultima Form for example has many multihitattacks = more damage) = Grande Magic as Combofinisher gets a really strong damage Boost or Magic as combofinisher -Magic Combo Thrift works also with normal Combos. It is possible with the right Epuipment and stats to start the infinitie Magicspam without level 1-Tier Magic.
I’ve played Kingdom Hearts 1 so many times ever since it first came out & I’ve never learned or knew some of these tricks & tips lol I love these games so much that I just enjoyed playing them I haven’t even achieved the ultimate keyblade yet but now after watching this I’m going back to kingdom Hearts 1 with these tips in mind & enjoying the game all over again for the millionth time lol
Bit late, but I just thought it was worth mentioning that the short hop to a parry tactic is only better than guarding until you get the counterattack ability, since counterattack can completely eliminate all recoil to spring immediately into a counter. I know you all ready mentioned counterattack, but I found guard to be more forgiving with the timing than a ground parry.
This was amazing I actually learned so much! The only thing I knew was the varying reach of key blades. I'm going to be playing KH very differently the next time I can!
thanks, this really helped. i had no idea that the HP/MP item toggle in the party member ai settings also applied to HP/MP spells and abilities. i thought it was just for items like potions and ethers. also, kh1 deserves so much more love.
Thanks for making this video. While KH1 combat has plenty of issues, it is very under appreciated in many respects! One thing I came to appreciate about parries by the way, is the fact that you can use attacks in conjunction with target switching to redirect one enemy’s attack to hit another enemy. This is an advanced technique I like to call the Reversal Parry. I especially like using Aerial Reversal Parries! By the way, I’ve done damage testing videos, and they demonstrate that marginal stats matter a lot, if I remember correctly. Basically physical damage with attacks doubles for every four additional points of Strength, Fire & Blizzard spells double in damage for every four additional points of Max MP, and Thunder magic doubles in damage for every two additional points of Max MP.

All these years later and I'm still learning things about KH1! This explains why people kept saying Mushu was OP! Thanks bro!
I love the fighting game influence that's coming from this.
Its kinda what made the first 2 so good
Another good tip for parrying in my opinion is also using sliding dash, especially when paired with counterattack.
I really wish we had sliding dash in vanilla KH1.
Bambi is great for spamming AOE spells like Thunder, blizzard and gravity on a crowd of enemies. In addition if you manage to fill the bard you get an item which will help you in savings money and with synthesis.
This video was worth it alone for that No Exp boosted damage trick
11:07 I love how it zoomed to Donald when you mentioned about wasting MP on additional spells
Right after getting beat up by Leon, this gets in my recommended. Good.
Low key I just realized yesterday after comparing the clothes of Sora from 1 to 3...they gave this man a whole red romper in the 1st game 😂
I've wanted guides like this to games that are more commonly seen as casual for so long
would love to see more, loved the video
First time viewer, I really LOVED this video! I was very impressed by this video, just in general. Your deliveries are pretty great, and the info and edit was GREAT. I look forward to more from you....
I just found this video and thank you very much! I hope you're doing alright chief and even if it's old, it's good to watch some of your videos again. Been off youtube for a while but I'm starting to watch more ^^
I have played this game for years but these were so helpful! Especially the parry vs.guard, and short jumps!!!
The amount of hidden features that this game has but does not tell you about is staggering.
did you ever make a video like this on any other kingdom hearts? you really should this is great even though I found it a bit late because I just finished my lvl 1 run a few months ago. keep it up!
I have no idea why I didn't think that damage exploit would work if I wasn't lvl 1. That's too good lol
Awesome vid as usual. Please turn this into a series that individually covers interesting and valuable techniques within each KH game, thank you :)
quick level up guide, especially in end game, is to summon bambi in the gizmo shop and just spam thunder
Exactly what I was looking for! A series like this would be awsome! 😍
I just got the Kh all in one collection and I'm glad I found this video. Thanks
Awesome series idea tbh. I'm subscribing for this
The tech tip, the triangle tip for attacking. I've played for years and never known about this
Great video. I love how you go into detail of why youd want to use certain summons
I am very interested to see what one of these for Re:Com or 358 would look like.
Keep it up!
This was fantastic and earned you my sub
I HAVE to say, Thank You.
Started with CoM, that's pretty unique. Glad you enjoyed the video!
The guard tip was super helpful thanks!
Kingdom Hearts 3
-Counter Kick/Impact/Slash -> Final Blow = Counterboost works during the entry Combo, even with Magic (works also with Form Changes like Highwind and Second Form)
-Magic Galvanizer works also with Grande Magic and during normal combos, every hit = 10% Damage Increase (Ultima Form for example has many multihitattacks = more damage) = Grande Magic as Combofinisher gets a really strong damage Boost or Magic as combofinisher
-Magic Combo Thrift works also with normal Combos. It is possible with the right Epuipment and stats to start the infinitie Magicspam without level 1-Tier Magic.
I know Nintendo saw this video for smash
very useful
please do this for all the other games in the series
I know you all ready mentioned counterattack, but I found guard to be more forgiving with the timing than a ground parry.
nice tip!
@@Soraalam1 thx
This was amazing I actually learned so much! The only thing I knew was the varying reach of key blades. I'm going to be playing KH very differently the next time I can!
The title is now officiall
*HOW TO GET BETTER AT SMASH BROS ULTIMATE GUIDE*
How to be better at Kingdom Hearts:
Jontron: TAP X QUICKLY TO NOT DIE AS FAST!!!
While I thought I would know all these tips, I was surprised that there was a recoil attribute for Keyblades. Awesome video!
just started playing for the first time and this helped a lot.
This was actually a really good video and VERY helpful.
Bro that Mushu trick was wild! Thank you for showing it :)
thanks, this really helped. i had no idea that the HP/MP item toggle in the party member ai settings also applied to HP/MP spells and abilities. i thought it was just for items like potions and ethers.
also, kh1 deserves so much more love.
Thanks I’ll keep that in mind for my next playthrough
Shoot, thought you were a poketuber also named Kyle and had a Togikiss for his profile pic, and used to do Smogon doubles and VGC lol
*Me:* (expecting a guide on how to guard better or basic things)
*Soraalam1:* (teaches actual high-impact, missable things which 99% i had no idea about)
*Me:* “TURNS OUT I HAVENT BEEN PLAYING KINGDOM HEARTS 🥲 I’M SORRY SQUARE ENIX FOR UNDERESTIMATING YOU”
4:47 I don’t know why this quick clip of him jumping in the window made me laugh so hard haha
Great video!
I just finished a play through of Kingdom Hearts final mix on my ps4. (Got story so far for Christmas and after playing the ps3 version for so long, it feels great.) I beat all the bonus bosses for the first time ever, but the Ultima weapon still elludes me.
This video is very informative and I'll be sure to keep it all in mind for my next playthrough. (Or watch the video again while playing.)
I sure missed your videos dude. No one makes guides like you. I can't wait for the next one! :)
With 1.5+2.5 having come to steam, let the algorithm make its rounds!
Very solid video. Even learned some stuff here that I didn't know like all keyblades having differing recoil.
Thanks for the triangle trick tip!
Ey!? Very good idea for a series, I'm actually excited! Can't wait to see more!
“Short hop to victory”
Me in Atlantis: :,)
Really cool series.
January 2022, got a discount for KH collection and recently played KH1.5 in playstation 5. thanks for the vid! i can now repeat and get the remaining trophies
