Contrary to how most of the world works, the Lord manages to turn seemingly insignificant and small things into great miracles.

I have fond memories of Cheryl as my professor in graduate school when she would spend so much time comforting each student in distress, including me. She’s an exceptional example of a Saint living the gospel in her daily life and work. Thank you Professor! ❤

I’ve been thinking about the timelessness of this and other addresses. The world in which I live has changed dramatically in the nearly 31 years since Sister Brown gave this talk. I have changed dramatically since then as well.
Looking back at some specific examples, I can usually see the small things that made a difference.
In some ways the changes are welcome. There are challenges that I’ve mostly conquered. Other examples are not as welcome. There are bad habits that I’ve either developed or allowed to continue.
I don’t have perfect foresight but with the Holy Ghost as my copilot, life has been easier to navigate. He is a perfect GPS/ flashlight/ warning system.
Like you, I am not even close to being great right now. However, I AM on the covenant path TO greatness. Being reminded of the practical aspects of gospel living in talks like this one is so helpful. Thanks for digging it out of the archives.

Occasionally we get some great comedic gems in these addresses. I particularly like today’s version.
“I have always been in favor of having the periods of terror in my life be as short as possible.” Amen!

How was the Earth flooded? A drop at a time
How is a city covered in snow? A flake at a time
These things are individually small, but they are consistent and they bring about great things. The Savior's example was a mustard seed that eventually becomes a large tree. I'm trying to overcome random bursts of commitment and focus on constant, every day discipleship and worship. I'm still learning.

I've lately thought of how huge the perceived universe truly is.
It is estimated that our observable universe contains as many as 2 trillion galaxies! This means that there could be more stars and earthlike planets than all the grains of beach sand on planet earth! This is just how big God, and his influence really is! If there is that much he created, it's incredible that he longs for each us individually to pray to him, and to have a loving relationship with him. He loves us so much, that he sent Christ to die for us individually!

Olha.
