  • This is a 2-hour bullet chess tournament, Lichess Titled Arena June 2019, I provided commentary on while specifically observing World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen compete (he latejoined the tournament at approximately 7 minutes 51 seconds into the video). Magnus played very dubious opening lines throughout, in particular the Grob Opening and Borg Defense which surfaced in a great portion of his games. I livestreamed this event at twitch.tv/ChessNetwork. Lichess Titled Arena June 2019 is held for titled chess players only, namely Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, National Masters etc... Magnus Carlsen played under the account "DrNykterstein" for this event. Its $1,000 prize pool goes to the top 5 players, with 1st - $500, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $125, 4th - $75, and 5th - $50. This tournament was played on June 22nd, 2019.
I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. There we SO many great moments:
    8:00 - Game 1, the first 1.b4?!
    9:11 - Game 2, the first 1.g4?!
18:14 - "this guy's a runner, how do you stop it?"
    19:16 - 1..h5 2..h4 LOL
20:04 - mouse slip into first loss
23:34 - flank opening vs Praggnanandhaa into absurd 7th rank knights for the win
28:58 - "ooh ooh ohhh Nf3 is juicy!" 15 move win
30:35 - dropped knight into first real loss
33:13 - "Ohh that's a nice move! You see what just happened there!" endgame conversion
37:52 - start of game vs chessbrahs, 38:33 three minor pieces vs queen
39:40 - chessbrahs misses(?) a perpetual, gets flagged
40:18 - THIS IS THE START OF THE ABSURD KINGWALK GAME
41:27 - THIS IS THE END OF THE ABSURD KINGWALK GAME "get back out of the pin...ohh ohh ohh he's gonna get mated..." then Carlsen pushes forward to Kh7 and uses it to mate black
46:16 - "check, another check, there goes the rook... they go so fast"
    49:46 - "oo, what's the story there...OHH" vs chessbrahs
52:31 - down to the wire
55:59 - "look at these tactics, the bishops are FLYING everywhere!...was that really calcualted? UNREAL!"
58:29 - "this looks really good, but... oooh, beautiful!"
    58:46 - #1 vs #2 penguin, 2.h4 to prevent g5 LOL
1:01:59 - "there is a mate threat, we've seen this before" referencing the absurd kingwalk mate
1:05:04 - "are we gonna have this again"
    1:08:25 - "hehe, 1.g4 vs 1..a5, already a unique position I imagine"
1:13:36 - "is he calculating it?... OHH that was such a cool sequence!"
1:20:00 - "counterpunch, counterpunch... ohh he's pushing through!"
1:27:53 - "...can he take this pawn?" into immediate trap reveal punish
1:29:32 - "has forced the queen exchange... NO! is he forcing it now, NO! what a sequence by ChessWeeb!"
1:47:32 - "how does this get broken down... OHH sneaky so fancy!"
    1:49:48 - "the 1..f5 2..Kf7 treatment" vs chessbrahs
1:52:57 - penguin rolls the dice and berserks
1:54:24 - THE MOUSESLIP RESIGN instead of berserking LOL
1:58:17 - berserks properly this time
1:59:47 - The Final Game, watch out for forks!

I think there are tactics if he ignores recapture and goes knight g5. Bishop is hit and if moves queen f3 with mate threat and gets at least back the exchange. Think thats why black moved his bishop.

    • @splat4097
      @splat4097 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Very briefly and roughly: CM Candidate Master, a rating of 2200+
      FM
Fide Master (pronounced FeeDay) FIDE govern chess and handout these titles
      2300+
      IM
      International Master
      2400-2500
      GM
      Grand Master
      2500+
To give you some idea, there are roughly 8000 FMs, 4000 IMs and 1500 GMs in the world. The best are referred to as Super GMs. Ratings vary for time controls but titles can only be won in classical chess (I think...I'm only an amateur fan). So when you watch Carlsen piss about in these games and destroy IMs and FMs having joined late, he's taking apart brilliant chess brains. Lichess hosts these arenas which is why we don't see Hikaru Nakamura, an excellent bullet player, as he's in bed with chess.com but you can search for him v Carlsen in a blitz battle vid which is excellent.
To have a world champion who is great at all formats and entertains too is a blessing for this age of internet chess. There are probably errors here, I'm not a good player or in the chess world but hopefully this helps 🙂

    • @badereric
      @badereric 3 ปีที่แล้ว

FM, NM, IM and also GM and CM are different chess titles. NM is not an official FIDE title and is given to you by your country, CM, FM, IM and GM are all official FIDE titles with their respective levels of strength in that order

Jerry, could it have been that Magnus meant to move Na3 and not Qa3? 145:15

51:42 srry but you messed it up here... If Queen takes than Nf4 doesn't win because of Rxg1+. The other winning move was simply Rxg6 winning a full rook :D

8:47 Jerry attempts to deliver mate with white's king! I am 2100 on lichess but haven't ever beaten Jerry. He always seems to remember which one is the queen and which is the king when we play! :(
