Hello Stacey I'm just at the start of my OU journey so this is just what I need to help me with the nerves before I start. I'm same I went to a uni 5 year ago I was actually a mature student then, just done 4 year college priory to that so the fact I left in the first year like you it kind of gets me down. So here I am ready for my pursuit of a history degree :) I know you mentioned it briefly in this vid but can you possibly do a vid on referencing as I've only ever done assignments at HND level 3 so I'm really stressed about that part of it & possibly a part reason I left before, I was 30 mature student & everyone else was kids & I just didn't feel the support like I did at college. I can go into level 2 because of my level 3 but choosing the level 1 for the reasons I mentioned above & to help me into my stride with it all. Brilliant vid by the way very much needed as you just can't get certain info off the OU websites as it's a bit dull & stressful.
Hi! I am so glad you found it helpful! I am happy to do a video on referencing soon, but for the meantime, I just want to ease your mind. If you are going into Level 1, the OU guide you through referencing really well in my opinion-I was really worried about it before starting my degree too. They also have some fantastic referencing information provided in every module, the library have referencing workshops and Student Hub Live create wonderful live video classes (saved onto YT) about referencing so look them up because they differentiate their classes for Beginner, Intermediate etc. I talk a little bit about them in my next video actually. If you have ANY trouble with it, your tutor should be able to give you guidance too. Have you already started your first module or is it upcoming? X
Thanks for sharing this it will be so helpful for the future and I’m sure it’s a video I will revisit. I was hoping to take part in your live last Sunday but my eldest son broke down and he’s only just passed his test so we had to go out on a rescue mission as he was in a panic.
Thanks for this video, Stacey. I am studying biology at OU and the L1 modules are general science so I'm struggling through the chemistry at the mo 😵💫. Hoping I'll feel more comfortable as I head into the biology specific L2 modules.
Ugh! I took Chemistry at AS Level and HATED it!! Put me off my thrn chosen career of Forensic Science! I'm sure that biology next year will be better for you!
@stacysspace I just keep reminding myself that I'm learning and I'm overcoming some really tough challenges - chemistry, physics, maths - and I'm still on track.
@lisametcalfe640 hey Lisa, I'm in the exact same boat and the maths is a challenge! What biology area are you moving onto next year ? I signed up for the human biology aspect
Hi Stacy! I’m starting the same degree on level 2 - skipping level 1 as a I credit transferred from social work in a brick uni. Is there anything from level 1 you think I should ask for access too or should look into myself to help with level 2 - thank you!
Hi @Chelsealeah welcome! It might be a bit overwhelming to ask for certain materials, but I would recommend having a play around on the student home page and really familiarising yourself with it, getting to grips with the library will be helpful too. If you ever need anything from the library and can’t find it, just call them-they are so helpful and kind. What module are you doing? Social Work will be very similar to what I covered in year one I would think. If you particularly want some extra reading ‘An Introduction to Childhood and Youth Studies’ by Open University Press was a good book that was recommended to me in my first module. You can get it on Amazon. X
Hi, im studing psychology stage 1 at the moment part time however im thinking of trying to sign up for 2 modules for stage two while working full time and having family commitments. Just wanted to check if anybody tried this and can give me some feedback?
Hi, apologies for the delay! I haven’t tried this because one module per year is about right for me, but you know yourself and your limits-do you have enough free time to devote to two modules?
Do you find having two years of level one too much? Like im yhinking of doing history and i am concerned il be too stuck in level one ways whwn j do level two.. Did you like only focusing on one moduke at a yime rather than myltiple modulws.like you would in a brick unu.
I wondered the same before I started, but because it is two separate modules per level (in my case), it feels different every year anyway and they give me enough to focus on that it doesn’t feel too ‘samey’. Have you looked into the OU history degree options? You can always study full-time if you have enough time for it-I study part-time due to family and health reasons. That being said, for me, I think studying on one module at a time is beneficial because I can immerse myself in it and really get to grips with it, whereas studying for two different modules that can be quite fast-paced can be overwhelming for some I am sure. It definitely is a very individual decision. I hope that helped! 😊
Quick question - would I get full access to the online materials of my current modules after I've finished them? I was wondering because I’m doing a language module and there are some very useful audio clips and pronunciation guide etc on the module page online and half of the units are completely online… would be a shame if I can’t access those and review them again next year once I’ve moved onto the next stage… (if I'll have no access to them at the next stage, I might have to find a way to download/save everything in advance which might be a bit tricky... either way, it’d be good to know if full access to past module materials is available or not 🙂)
Hi, apologies for the delay. I think it totally depends upon your situation. I would recommend contacting the OU and looking into an access module to begin with in order to build and develop your study skills and put you in the best position for success. I’ve heard good things about the access modules.
I'm at the tail end of stage 1 of BSc Computing and IT, moving on to stage 2 in October. Good to get some perspective on the shift from S1 to S2!
Fingers crossed that you find it a positive experience Richard :)
Hi, currently at Level 1 studying Business Management. :)
How are you finding it? 😊

Oh no! Is he ok? That must have been scary for him (and probably you too)!
@@stacysspace he’s ok thank you just got himself a bit anxious
Hi Stacy
I would like the live study on here please if possible.
Thank you xx
Thank you for letting me know-I will figure out how to do it on here! :)

Two modules would be too much I watched someone whose doing the same degree and she had to quit her job for school

For 3 years
What time do most of the tutorials take place
Hi, apologies for the delay! There are a few different times for each one so some will be in the day some the evening and some the weekend usually.
Would you recommend the OU if you’ve got no gcse/Alevels ?
