What an interesting, informative, and great video! I've just ordered my copy of The Intellectual Devotional book! Please keep posting all things commonplace!
I am homeschooling in America and also not religious and those intellectual devotions seem like the perfect addition to my routine! Thank you for sharing - you’ve gained a new follower ❤
It's so interesting that one of the reasons people used Zibaldones was that books were very expensive, so of course you didn't want to waste the knowledge you got from them, you wanted to preserve it and use it again. I think the modern analog is that our time and attention is very valuable, or "expensive", in a sense. I often find that I consume content---whether a video or an article, book, etc.---and the content is useful, but once I finish consuming it, I forget all about it and can no longer use it. In a way, I have wasted my precious time and attention. But by taking careful notes, I can ensure that I will be able to use the information in the future and my time was not wasted.
Tiago Forte really impressed me with the idea of setting up note-taking that's helpful for Future You to access quickly and easily. I do a hybrid where I take notes directly into my notebook, but then also design in MS Publisher things I want to print out. I find that I remember much more and am likely to be able to say, "As So-and-so said . . . ." if I write it down. It's also a great reference to go back to, and it's one kind of journal I don't mind anyone seeing--unlike Morning Pages! Just ordered the book on Notebooks. You may appreciate "Remarkable Books" and "Remarkable Diaries." Both are coffee table eye candy for journalers!
Oooh! Thank you for the recommendation-I will look for those now!! Yes, totally agree that it is so much easier to remember quotes etc when I have written them down and yes-morning pages are definitely not to be shown, unlike a commonplace! 😂
New subscriber here! Loved finding out more about your commonplaces! Roland Allen spoke at JournalFest / PlannerFest/ StationeryFest this year and he was fascinating!
Thanks for subscribing, and welcome! No way?! I am so gutted! I would have loved to see him speak. I only found out about the 'fests' after they had happened already this year so I will definitely be there next time.
First time I’ve watched your channel. Loved your talk on Commonplacing. Subscribed. I love all things notebooks, pens, stationary. I’m going to order The Intellectual Devotional. Thanks for your channel ❤️🇨🇦
Oh yeay! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you for subscribing 😊 I have some more stationery and planner videos coming soon so hopefully you enjoy those too! x
Wow I honestly don’t know where to start. This was a fantastic video thank you so much for doing it. I want to totally rethink my higgedly piggedly common placing now. I think the mini zine idea is fab and I would definitely sign up for it if you decide to do it. Thanks again so much info to take in this is definitely going on the saved list
This was such a great explanation! I love the idea of an intellectual devotional. For a while, I was doing self-help mornings but this sounds like a great option for my mornings.
I am so glad you liked it! Yes, self-help and non-fiction used to be my morning go-to swell, but I find the intellectual devotionals a lighter way to start the day now 😂
Absolutely fabulous video and right up my street! I jot down bits and bibs in various places and it all gets lost. Love the dot method. Thank you for the tips and I would welcome more vids like this ❤ Also, Super interested in the intellectual devotionals but my library does it have it. Do you recommend any websites that offer this sort of stuff?
So glad you like it! I intend to make lots more videos like this one. It's a shame your library doesn't have them-are you from the UK? They are American books I think so that may be why. I can't think of any sites specifically, but I will be on the lookout so I can let you know if I find any.
Super interesting and helpful. I only just came across commonplacing and am so glad I found your channel! When you say you might take your CP notebook to a café, can you give some examples of what that might involve and what you might include? Still getting my head round it all! xx PS was going to say - I think this kind of thing helps with trauma and complex trauma, because trauma brains don't process information in the same way... Things can float around in the 'ether' of the brain, and not work their way through to healthy memory. So in a way, journaling and commonplacing seems like a way of assisting that process and lightening the trauma brain load.
Oh, yes-absolutely agree re: trauma brains! Gosh, I think I could write a book on that! Maybe I could do a video on it-might be a bit niche but hey ho! I will be doing a video soon on taking my commonplace book to a cafe because I am re-starting The Artist's Way, and that involves Artist Dates, and CP at a cafe is one of those for me. If you are a visual person, that might help, but essentially, I get my journal, my commonplace book and a pen pouch (or three! 🙈) andt ake myself off to a cafe where I typically buy a coffee and a pastry and just write out all of my commonplace info into my book. I often wait until I have a few things saved up for this and I absolutely love to just zone out where nobody can ask me to do things or speak to them (I even put headphones on while not listening to anything to make sure nobody disturbs me too!).
@@stacysspace That sounds like a super-interesting and helpful pointer for the rest of us trying to journal trauma. And see what helps others. Many, many thanks for your input and sharing via your channel on this! xx
Is the leather cover of the notebook also from the Traveler brand? Because I really like the inside organization, but the Traveler's Notebook doesn't look like it has that! I really like the idea of that book for commonplacing, though!
Do you mean the cream case the commonplace book is in? That is from Kolourcafe on Etsy, if you mean the tan colour journal, that is a Grand Voyageur XL notebook from Paper Republic. My commonplace book is a TN Passport in Black, the inside pink-ish nude wallet is from Galen Leather and the plastic zip and card holder and paper inserts are all from Travellers company. I think I have covered it all, but let me know if I still haven't! I have linked some of those items in my description of the video. Most of my Travellers Company items, I purchase from Miso Paper. I hope that helps 😊
Hi and welcome! So glad you liked it. The Tarot compendium is here: amzn.to/3UXVq7M It is called "Tarot. The Library of Esoterica" by Taschen. Hope that helps 😊
Can you link the tarot book please. I'd love one of them mini fact books, ones one all the famous people within childcare and early years. Such as montessori etc
I would love to know what other things you include in your commonplace book. I have read Building a Second Brain and taken the course with the same name. I loved your little zine, I would love if you put them on Gumroad. I do purchase a lot through Gumroad. I have been starting to read more books and taking notes and I do mine through Notion in a digital way. I would forget to take my book with me if I did it analogue. Thank you so much, I loved your video. Please keep doing videos on Commonplace Books.
I am so glad you liked the video and the zine! I have added the zine on Gumroad now, I posted the link on the community page 😊 I used to forget my notebooks all the time but I think it is just a habit now. That being said, If I ever don't have it for some reason, I just write it in my notes app and then copy it down later into my commonplace book. Much more time-consuming than your way though! I will be posting more videos soon on commonplacing-especially now I know how much everyone likes them! x

Absolutely! Totally agree about our attention being a valuable commodity nowadays. Thank you for your valuable insight x
Very inspirational! Thank you for this. I really want to start this!
I am so glad you think so 😊 I definitely recommend it. It is one of my favourite ways to spend 'free' time now.

So glad you like them! Thank you so much :)
Wow, very informative video. I find Oscar Wild very note worthy. I’m working on a commonplace junk journal with my daughter and we are having a blast.
Oh, what a lovely thing to do together! I have tried so hard to get my son into commonplacing, but he is currently having none of it!
That was so informative! Thank you Stacy.

Thanks so much again! ❤
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it :) I will get on with sorting out the zine (like magazine) x

@KSS709 Oh yes, that’s a good one! Have you read “101 Essays that will change the way you think” by Brianna Weist? That’s a good one too x

This comment made me feel so scène trama brains just process things differently

Immediately just went and downloaded the Kindle version of 'The Notebook: A History of Thinking on Paper' by Roland Allen, because of this video. 🤍 📖
Oh good! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I did too
Enjoy!
