Matt, this is awesome! I just got my FX30 earlier this week. Charged the battery and started looking for "settings" videos. Here I am - I have finished this one tonight, going to watch the second one tomorrow, but I do have a question. Now, on some of the sections that you were on a few of the "items" you went through were not in that order, in some cases I had an extra page, no worries was able to figure stuff out so far. However, one thing I have noticed, especially when setting or looking at fps, I have 23.96 as a default for 24p and 59.xx instead of 60. I doubt this is a big deal, but do I care? Is this what I want (my guess is this camera has an update on it that came after you filled this)? Thanks!
Matt, what lens are you using? I Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and many of the options you are setting are not available for that lens. Also, I don't have a proper screen for color grading and corrections so I would like to know what are the best settings for shooting video straight out from the Camera. Thank you very much for you generosity in sharing these tutorials with us.

I have tried setting up my fx30 on my own ( I probably did something wrong with it), and after shooting a few video clips (the were normal), whenever I press playback or check them on my MacBook Pro, all footages make stops and pauses instead of playing smoothly? did I set up something incorrectly?thanks for your input
Nice video always Matt. Just a quick question, some videos that I recorded are in portrait mode but I didn't recorded in vertical. Where do I find it in the settings, just wanted to turn that off.
Do you recommend all manual for someone with no videography experience but is willing and patient enough to learn through trial and error? Or will it be too complicated for me to understand an all manual approach?
I could be wrong but I think that "embed" just adds the lut file to the metadata but doesn't apply it to the footage (so it is easy to hand off footage and keep the intended look with the file). I think you have to use one of the PPLUT custom picture profiles to "bake-in" the lut.
Dropped in to the comments as soon as he mentioned that since it seemed incorrect. I don't think you're wrong here, it's just metadata. It would defeat the point to apply it baked in.

Could you please provide the proof, where image quality of 256 codec is "slightly better" than 264? I compared both and difference was only in size of the file.
Size of the file is exactly what it is. At the same file size, H265 has about twice better quality than H264. Depends on what type of shot it is, but on average two times better quality. So a 1GB H264 video should be similar quality to a 500GB H265. When it comes to FX30, 4K HS 100Mbps codec is about the same quality as 4K S at 200Mbps. Smaller file for the same quality and also smaller SD requirements. You don't need to use a V90 card as V60 will be fine. HS is a bit harder on your computer, so if you have a slow Mac or a really old PC it might be laggy. Most PCs and latest Macs should be fine though.
@@lukastemberger XAVC-HS 4K 24p 10bit 4:2:2 has bitrate 100Mbps, and XAVC-S 4K 24p 10bit 4:2:2 has the same bitrate 100Mbps. Where did you find twice better quality with the same bitrate, bro?
@@vvlad78 You said the difference is in file size. File size and bitrate refers to the same thing. XAVC S is based on H264. XAVC HS is based on H265. As codecs, H265 will give you approximately twice the compression quality compared to H264. It's not a black and white situation though. For a static talking head video, HS will probably give you better quality than even S-I. Because S-I will have a locked bitrate and HS variable, which makes it more efficient at scenes with less movement. In a hectic shot or a rainy/snowy shot, S-I will give you better quality since there's more information HS has to figure out how to encode into the smaller bitrate. At bitrates of 50, 100, 200+... You won't see a difference easily when just looking at the footage on screen. You'll see the difference when creating elaborate color grades, VFX, green screen, that sort of stuff. For TH-camrs, there's usually no reason to even go over 50Mbps when shooting. Videos like the ones this guy made are mostly pointless. There's no one recommend setting for everyone. The whole point is to have all the options and to know what you're doing so you can make the most out of the camera you have.
@JoeyRKDP Hey, glad I could help. 24fps is considered "true cinema" framerate. UHD 4K is not a cinema format, it's technically a TV format. Instead, there's a DCI format (Digital Cinema Initiatives) which is a standardized cinema 4K resolution. That's why true 24fps is only available in the 4K DCI format and not in the "TV" 4K UHD.
@JoeyRKDP oh, this is a 3 month old video. The firmware update wasn't out yet... You're actually right, it's weird. So, on the old firmware there was no option to film in true 24, only 23.976. And they just called it 24. Now that they added true 24, the camera is showing actual framerate with both 24 and 23.976 options whenever available. It was a very weird decision that pros were calling out, and luckily they fixed it.
Just a little note. It's been brought up before but you use the term 'filmmaking.' This is wrong terminology as you do not use film in making a video. Please use the right terms, you are making or recording a VIDEO and using memory cards in the camera. It's time to switch to the right language and not give the impression you are using 'film' when either shooting stills or recording a video.

It was a very weird decision that pros were calling out, and luckily they fixed it.
will this work for the sony fx3? thanks
i am filming birds 😢
translate to hindi please
Just a little note. It's been brought up before but you use the term 'filmmaking.' This is wrong terminology as you do not use film in making a video. Please use the right terms, you are making or recording a VIDEO and using memory cards in the camera. It's time to switch to the right language and not give the impression you are using 'film' when either shooting stills or recording a video.
Great video Matt, Thanks!
Thank you man! This was great!
Thanks!!!!
