Base ISO for slog3 on FX3 and A7S3 is 800/12.800 with the latest firmware update. External monitor should be used for monitoring. Slog3 must be overexposed by 2 stops without a blinking meter at any point of the imagine, when you move the camera arround. Exposing at 0.5 only like described in the video will create massive noise in your video, even when you record at base ISO. Go on and try it in 2023 if you don’t believe me.

If im shooting SLOG3 with my Sony A7S3 and i have external monitor (Atomos Shinobi) with me and the monitor has the SLOG3 correction LUT in it and used that im going to use in the editing phase. I`ve been using A7S3 own monitor to show zebras on about 60 for skintones and Shinobi telling me when the IRE gets over 94. My actualy question is that how does the correction LUT and gamma assist actually work with these limits, am i actually exposing image badly if i have zebras at 94 with the correction LUT, is it actually showing me the real clipping point because of the correction LUT and if not, should i have the zebras match the REC709 that the correction LUT aims for? Same question about the gamma assist in the camera, can i trust in the zebras with that mode on as i would trust them without it? This is hard to explain, but i hope someone understands and could tell me the best workflow to tackle this problem. I would love to have the zebras show in the cameras monitor for the skin tones and the highlight clipping in the monitor or other way around, but what IRE should i aim for depending on the correction LUT or Gamma assist? Can i actually use correction LUT on the monitor when exposing by the SLOG3 rules?

Slog 3 is Slog 3 regardless of the camera

@@galocascio Yes you are right. But I meant those ire values, 10-94. different cells have different clipping values, even if the gamma curve is the same.

@@jan-peterbrask9441 Not necessary. For gama curves of sony Slog 3 always clips on highlights in any sony camera in 94 ire by otherway slog 2 curve clip at 107 ire.

@@galocascio Okay, thank you. this was new information for me. The fx6 is the first Sony camera I own, so I’m still missing out on basic things with this one.

@wolfcrow (or anyone else who knows), are there any important differences we should know about if we're shooting S-Log3 on the Sony a7 III (_no 'S'_) ? Thanks for the extremely helpful video!

Yes the a7iii isn't 10bit and isnt great for log. Don't bother.

@@CamsCampbell correct. It's doable with all of them but use slog2 not 3 and if you're not comfortable absolutely nailing your exposure and white balance it's not worth it. Look up whoismatt picture profile

I don't know why but even before I watched any technical videos and understood any technicalities, I always prefer to expose all of my videos at + 0.7. May be because I like number 7 🙂. I would keep the video details in mind when I expose my a7Siii from now on.
