      they were not slaves. it is true that they started their lives as slaves. but from the moment they entered the janissary corps, they ceased to be slaves. and they were highly respected in society. it is true that they were paid. it is even known that they often refused to fight or changed the sultan just to get paid.
      They were also very troublesome for the Ottomans after a while.
      As a Turk, my ancestors were sipahi. they were real Turks who cultivated normally, paid taxes and fought to protect their country when the time came.

    Tough I enjoyed this dramatized documentary, we need to keep in mind it's still a dramatized docu.
    For instance, it would be madness for a Sultan to fight to stop an ambush. That's not his job. Vlad had to do it out of borderline desperation to keep his small number of men motivated. Also, he spoke their language perfectly, knew their customs, etc
    As far as I read, there were a few issues with the ambush. One of Vlad's captains failed to coordinate his attack. Either fear or miss communication. Also, the Jannisarries were fiercely loyal, and would stand, fight and die even when they had no chance, where other soldiers would flee. This meant the ambush proceeded slower than intended, and the Ottoman managed to find time to protect the Sultan, and form ranks

      Skanderbeg, dracula, all were turkish trained soldiers who knew about the streanth and weakness of ottoman army. If Skanderbeg lived for long enough, the time would eventually come, when mehmet would kill him. That time ottoman army became so much powerful, christianity was like the man who is in the middle of the see, holding one stick and then another, to be alive. In those times, whoever willing to fight the ottomans, christianity announced them as a Hero😂. Vlad dracula the Impaler, john haniadi the bastard(I am not using bad language, huniadi really was a bastard) and skenderbeg the traitor all were christian heroes😂. No accounts of this battle document Mehmed fighting among his men here. There are writings of Vlad the Impaler storming in battle and attacking, employing his tactics by himself. Much stronger nations would have their generals do so. Vlad was a warlord also, and this was a high position synonymous to prince that he held (that of Voievode). Mehmed on the other hand had a much much much larger empire to deal with. In the context of this battle, I doubt he would face Romanian troops directly. The Wallachians were attempting to assassinate him after all. The only way to not disclose his location was trough hiding.

      Whoever rebels, and whoever is helpless, fights for survival. You cannot compare a Wolf like Mehmed with an ant like Vlad. Mehmed is the greatest, scholar, strategist and Warrior of that era. This is accepted by all historical authorities in the world. That's why his nickname is "Conqueror"-"Fatih". It's really ridiculous that you portray the beast called vlad, who brutally murdered tens of thousands of innocent people on the stakes, as a Great Hero warrior. At the end of the day, don't forget that Vlad's worthless head was cut off by the janissaries and thrown in front of Mehmed's feet. As Conqurer Sultan Mehmed Khann told the Enemy envoy to convey to the European Kings;
      "Even their dreams cannot reach where my power reaches."
      He says this for the poor people like you who try to beat the Turks not in reality but in their dreams. Get a lesson from this.

      But they were essentially slaves or second class citizens.
      This is very well hidden in the series which makes Mehmed treat them with some respect when in fact they were not respected at all at the beginning of their history.
      It kind of makes Vlad's statement much more likely: that though Mehmed told him he was a brother, Vlad probably saw how the the real Janissaries were treated and knew he was just a slave or second class citizen with a golden ribbon for his royalty roots.

    Truth is that Mehmed most probably didn't participate directly in the battle, but was rather taken away from the site and protected by his guards. Vlad confused Mehmed's tent with that of the grand viziers' (probably because of bad intel).
    Mehmed didn't fought the battles personally, but he looked from afar, and thought about the strategies to employ along with his generals (it was too great a risk for the empire for the sultan to fight on the battlefield). On the other hand, Vlad the Impaler fought alongside his men (like Stephen the Great, his Moldavian contemporary and blood relative).

    MEHMET VS VLAD SKANDERBERG AND HE TAKE ISTANBUL WHAT A BIG MAN

      Skanderbeg, dracula, all were turkish trained soldiers who knew about the streanth and weakness of ottoman army. If Skanderbeg lived for long enough, the time would eventually come, when mehmet would kill him. That time ottoman army became so much powerful, christianity was like the man who is in the middle of the see, holding one stick and then another, to be alive. In those times, whoever willing to fight the ottomans, christianity announced them as a Hero. Vlad dracula the Impaler, john haniadi the bastard(I am not using bad language, huniadi really was a bastard) and skenderbeg the traitor all were christian heroes. But mehmet defeated all of them,and took their lands.
