What I love about this show is the development of the Janissaries and a glimpse into their organization and how they operated. These guys were feared in the 16th century but overtime they sought more personal power and became stagnant as a result. They were finally defeated by Sultan Mahmud II in 1826.

After the Ottoman Empire, the first tyrant of turkiye, mustafa ataturk wanted to kill all the ottomans, such as the soldiers, elders, and children. Thereafter, he had made the new act of laboring for all the Turks; meanwhile, his people really hated him for what he did or had done. After the death of ataturk, the laboring turks were suspended and then fought against the Germans and Italians for the invasion of Turkiye from 1941-1945 as in the period of ww2. After that, the Soviet Union gave power to Turkiye to become a part of the communist regime from the mid-1950s to early 1992. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the communist regime had been demolished in turkiye in 1992, in which it was the last nation of communism.

we all know the ottomans wiped out the janissaries in the 19th century, but many of their descendants are still alive today in north africa, in libya, tunisia, and algeria. i’m one of them. my ancestors served in tripoli, specifically in a city called misrata, where their mission was to protect the city from the knights of malta, who frequently raided the coast. later, the karamanli dynasty took power in libya, they started arresting the sons of janissaries because of the wealth they had amassed from the state. as a result, many fled to tunisia. This is just one of the many stories of the janissaries who served in north africa

@@KamilGunes-pd7uf i've noticed that many turks claim the janissaries who served in N/Africa are originally turkish.. but, many families already have names that indicate their places of origin. some are of serbian origin, others albanian, greek, and so on. i'm not sure if there are any of turkish origin, it’s possible. what makes me sure about my family’s origin is the name of the tribe in libya. it’s called the "Rumelia tribe", which is what they called themselves in libya. to be clear, i’m only talking about the group of people i come from originally, not all the janissaries in libya, because there were many different groups.
furthermore, many N/Africans today try to insult us by claiming we don’t truly know where our ancestors came from. they make these remarks knowing we are of eastern european origin. that said, i’d appreciate it if you could share a source for your claim. i’m interested in history, and naturally, understanding the story of my ancestors is very important to me
