      Guys, Kerala MVD has released a statement that they will be cracking down on helmet cams now. They are citing incidents where people use helmet cams to record stunts and apparently a kid recently caused an accident while wearing a helmet with action cam and 3 people including the kid were casualties. Kerala MVD are saying the rider's attention will waver when wearing a helmet cam. Any takes on this? This happens anywhere else in India?

    • @shu_mar
      @shu_mar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SmirkVirtuoso I would be very scared to use an action cam on the helmet. Between the sticky mount and the weight / shape of the cam, the risk is greater than you think.

    I have no problems with "my first big bike" being compact and controllable. I'm not in the mindset to go all brave and buy an intimidating motorcycle only to be rendered useless in our Indian conditions. I'm still a student who hasn't earned his own motorcycle yet. But when I do, I'll make sure to not make any mistakes going after fancy on-paper specs in place of the motorcycle experience.

    I think this is a beautiful package of power and practicality. I've been stuck in 3 hour long bumper to bumper traffic wearing a track pant and slippers spending about 90 percent of the time holding the clutch. While I felt the heat, the bike didn't overheat. When you accelerate, you'd know that you'd be able to control it and that's the kind of confidence you'd need in a bike. You don't want something brutal. It's fuel consumption is on par with my old Duke 390 (around 20 kmph). The bike is small, doesn't grab a lot of attention and the stock exhaust cannot be changed with a slip on since it is a single piece. You'd need to churn out 1.5L to churn out Akra or a Zard. But with the minimalistic design, all you'd need to do is to rev it hard in the 2nd and the 3rd gear and watch the peak hour traffic scramble away from your lane in mortal fear and amazement. What else would you need in a middle weight retro streetfighter?

    The new triumph Trident 660 is great looking middle weight bike. The design looks retro and modern and the dimensions are compact to. But it doesn't looks like a big bike like compared to a Kawasaki Z650. However where it excels is in the performance. Thanks 3 Cylinder engine is one of best, its smooth refined and sounds incredible 👍👍👍.
    Well if want to choose a middle weight,then its the triumph Trident 660.
    But i also like the Yamaha MT07 which is the best middle weight bike in the international markets. Its one hell of bike especially with the cross plane crank 689cc twin cylinder engine , sadly its not here in India😑😑😑.any way thanks for the review ❤❤❤. Also nice dog you have their 😄😄😄like the name to sparky.

    Good balanced review. For my part, I think, considering where Triumph were aiming this bike in the market, they've done a good job. I traded in my 2019 street twin, for this bike. Because despite the torque and build quality of the twin, after 3yrs, I wanted something lighter and more flickable, a bike that would rev further. Well, that's what I got! I am having a great time on this bike, its placid, when you want it to be, however, it encourages you to let it free! It makes me smile. In 18 months I will trade up to a 900ish class triple. But for now! After my street twin trade in price... I have a New fun machine, for £2,000.

    I'll buy a bag of Kurkure over a lays chips anyday. Just like that I want my bikes to be what they are meant to be, and not over designed like the bulky bodied smaller cc bikes Designed in India to make it look bigger than what it really is. If it rides easier but have the same power as its rival than what is there to loose, the more easier it is to ride the harder I'll push it to make the most out of it, isn't that what better engineering is all about.

Additionally, that “meh” after 7000 rpm is a deal breaker for me personally, which makes me really sad. I am desperately looking for an upgrade from beginner baby ninja which unfortunately I have have outgrown. I really hope Triumph sees value in bringing bigger engine in similar form factor and they will find me pre-booking it immediately.

    Theoretically Trident may look like it has "borrowed" the engine from current A2 (LAMS) license Street Triple S (660cc) in reality it's not accurate. And neither is that it's just retuned 660cc Street Triple S.
    The bore and stroke have been redesigned and so is the cam to say least. It may share good number of parts with the S but it also doesn't share lot of parts wih it either. There are significant changes between these two machines to call it retuned S. IMHO the correct way to describe it could be that Trident engine is based on S engine but redesigned for Trident.

    There goes Powerdrift again, trying to sell motorcycles to Indians instead of reviewing them with honesty and speaking the Bitter truth, same case as the Honda CB500X and Bullet 350 review. No Shumi, 7.6 lakhs on road for someone upgrading from a 2 lakh rupee Dominar doesn't make sense, neither does saying 80 horsepower is something one will "outgrow" very soon in India, we barely have the roads and traffic conditions for these sort of bikes. Don't get me wrong, i am looking for a middleweight myself, not saying we shouldn't buy one at all, but please don't say 7.6 lakhs makes it very affordable and entry level bike, that just sounds stupid. P.S. loads of love to Sparky!, btw, i have a German Shepherd LOL.

    • @shu_mar
      @shu_mar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree on every single count.
      1/ I’m actually saying don’t buy this bike - triumph has made it too easy.
      2/ affordability is both personal and impermanent. Many can’t make the jump from a ₹2 lakh to a ₹9 lakh bike. Agreed. But if they’re in love with motorcycles, eventually they will. What real choice is there? So far the ₹4-6 lakh space is empty. And until it fills out, this is where it’s at.
      3/ I know it sounds super super strange but VFM only works until you sign the papers. Once you buy it VFM is behind you and your life wit the bike is all that’s left.

    I may look fascinating roadster but definitely doesn’t give u special feeling of owning a big bike ( as shumi correctly mentioned u will outgrow is very soon ).
    I was really impressed with HT 900 cc engine of ST and it definitely gives u feeling of big bike and that exhaust …! Overall I really doubt how much comfortable it will for long distance touring ( u can’t tour with pillion )

    Great review in pointing out the flaws in our Indian context. Is it really practical for India where maintaining even 100kph is difficult on highways, with people crossing the streets everywhere? On top of that, the roads are bad and ridden with potholes. At least in US roads have 65-75 mph (~100-120kph) speed limits and one can ride for hours in those speeds. Furthermore, this motorcycle is really small and lacks street presence. It is designed keeping the Western novice rider on mind and like you said, it won't feel special if you move up from a Duke 390 to this.

    If I'm ever buying a middleweight, it would probably be the Japanese for sure. TBH a majority of people in here don't care for track day performance and that is where "looks" come into play. If you go all in with that money, you definitely expect it to be a looker. A statement. A moment of pride. Nobody cares about a 3 cyl and 75+ bhp. It's all about the statement there, and that's where major Europian companies lack and that's what the Japanese and the Koreans have mastered for the Indian mindset.
    In short- Get a Z650. Save some cash.

    For the Indian roads any smooth and fast bike more than 200cc is enough, if trident is not able to push in some scary way after 7000 rpm people will not find anything new after spending lot of money. It is okay to spend good amount of money for 3 cylinder big engine. But performance does matter. 👍
