Watching it initially convinced me to order a VW Homelink mirror for my Cross Sport during the Black Friday event, which saved me substantial $$$. Everything played out EXACTLY as presented here. It was helpful to know where the plastic connection points were on the housing. I was able to do the entire procedure with my bare hands and didn’t break anything! Thanks for a most helpful video!

A few questions: 1) Can this mirror be purchased in the US and installed on a Canadian version of the MK8 Golf R? 2) What is the tool that you used to remove the mirror housing? 3) Does anything in the car need to be recalibrated after the install (lane assist, front collision, etc.)?
i tried this last night and i have a few comments. getting the plastic cover to release is very tricky without breaking it as it is very thin. therefore be very careful. next, the release of the mirror and the plug is easy as it is shown here. but, the inserting of the new mirror is very difficult, not like it is shown here. you really have to stop and look for the way to align the new mirror prior to the insertion. be very careful, this could crack your window if not careful. it didn't happen to me, but i have read online where it has done that. Lastely, nothing is shown here on the setup of the compass. you need to have a paperclip and insert it into the hole beside the bluetooth button for 15 secs. then, you need to know the number for your area. once you know the number, repeatedly insert the paperclip until the number is showing on the screen. then, wait until the screen show C. then, go for a ride to a parking lot and drive in a circle at slow speed until the directions come up. hope this helps.
@@christopherhess7860 Chirstopher, if i remember correctly there are two clips. one on each side, in the middle. insert a hook tool and try to find them. i did break mine but was able to connect it back together. good luck!
Crazy, my GTI SE in the US comes with the home link mirror but the R didn’t in 🇨🇦? Wait, maybe that’s another dealer option I didn’t ask for that I wound up paying for anyways 🤔 😭

I'm in my mk8 right now cussing up a storm, I can't get that damn plastic cover off. What's the trick?
