Thanks lmao. I was adjusting the mirror as it kept falling down and I pulled on it a bit too hard and I done ripped the dang mirror off the car. I’m such an idiot but thanks lol
So i have the same problem. Do i keep the glass on the metal piece and place into the hole w/ epoxy or do i fill the hole up w/ epoxy, scrape the glass off the metal and then reattach the metal to the expoxy and then of course the mirror???
scrape the glass off the metal piece first, then fill the hole in the windshield with epoxy. If you are using the same glue I'm using, be swift with it when applying the glue, it hardens quickly. Also have the metal piece orientation in mind so you don't accidentally place upside down
Smacked it with a heavy screw driver continuously till the glass came off in pieces, it's also dusty. Heard that the piece of glass can be removed by heating the button to undo the glue
Ordered some of the epoxy, can I ask if it dripped a lot when applying it? Also do I have to mix it first or can I use the syringe to apply it straight on and press the mirror tab into it? If I do mix it first can you tell me the ratio roughly? Sorry for the questions just really want to fix it properly, thanks!
Hi, for the ratio, it's 50/50. It's a double syringe system so both will drip equally. It does flow down while applying, so definitely mask tape the windshield around the area. You have to mix it. Once you mix it, it can start to hardened quite quickly so be fast. Try not to mix for too long, there is also a strong smell to it. I would also place a towel over my dashboard because any droplet will be permanent
That wouldn't work here due to the dent in the glass. Something more viscous is required to fill in the dent (it will keep dripping down if it's too fluid), plus Rearview Mirror Adhesive is either liquid (too little) or double sided tape(not applicable here. They mostly used to reinstall accessories after replacing windshield
How is it holding up? With heat and so on? Is the jb weld clear weld good too? I've seen nice reviews on it on Amazon, can't find the gorilla glue here. But jb weld is heat resistant too
Yes, fill in the hole with the epoxy. I found it a little tricky to do especially due to the upside down situation and how quickly the glue can start hardening before you get to fix it up.
@@arkalanin No need to, this is a permanent bond between the metal piece and the windshield. You might, but the glue only goes between the metal piece and glass. You need to be able to slide the mirror off in the future.
I only put the glue on the glass. When it starts to harden, it dries quickly so I don't recommend applying on the metal button even though you can if you are swift enough. Use masking tape around the application area to avoid epoxy dripping onto windshield and double check the orientation of the metal button, placing it upside down is a nightmare since epoxy on glass is permanent
I have same problem. I have been advised against filling epoxy in chip to avoid any cracks. 2016 make car. Did you see cracks or any other problems with this fix ?
@@lwill4075 I fill the dent with epoxy and added the button right away. The epoxy get viscous quickly so it holds. But I only mounted the mirror next day
@@by_dark_mm9138 If you used the same glue as in the video, it's gonna be impossible to remove it without risking the whole windshield, if it's already dry
It didn't look so nice because the black film ripped, I would have masked the inside with similar film after the epoxy dried before gluing the metal piece to the windshield if I knew. But I ended up sticking a film on the outside it fixed that

How did you fill it in and keep it flat?

I have a 2012 Nissan Altima would it be cheap for the mechanic to fix it
It shouldn't cost much, but wondering if they will ignore the liability aspect of it. They will probably suggest you to replace the windshield
Am I able to put the mirror back on in under 24/hr ?
Yes, 24h is more than enough for the glue to dry (cure).
How long does it take for the glue to cure?
They make a glue specific for this job, it's called Rearview Mirror Adhesive.
That wouldn't work here due to the dent in the glass. Something more viscous is required to fill in the dent (it will keep dripping down if it's too fluid), plus Rearview Mirror Adhesive is either liquid (too little) or double sided tape(not applicable here. having a hard time filling in the glass with the epoxy and smoothing it out. anybody have this problem??
I did not try to smooth it out since it's under the metal button and not visible at all. It's very tricky especially due to it being upside down
Does it not work on regular super glue such as gorilla glue correct?
Gorilla glue is the brand, they have all types of glues. Be sure to use epoxy glue (Clear preferred), not the light liquid ones like crazy glue
@@YvonSmart but it doesn't work with regular super glue correct. I tried and it didn't stick
@@whatitisnt. Correct, it doesn't work, some may stick for a few days, but comes off when adjusting mirror
@@YvonSmart it also doesn't work on permatex rearview mirror kit. Perhaps epoxy would be better instead of a designated rearview mirror adhesive?
How is it holding up? With heat and so on? Is the jb weld clear weld good too? I've seen nice reviews on it on Amazon, can't find the gorilla glue here. But jb weld is heat resistant too
It's holding very well. JB weld would work just fine. Make sure it's clear, made for glass
hey thank you so much, but there is one question, do you fill the hole entirely with the epoxy glue?
Yes, fill in the hole with the epoxy. I found it a little tricky to do especially due to the upside down situation and how quickly the glue can start hardening before you get to fix it up.
@@YvonSmart Thanks! Oh, and also. Should you apply the glue on the metal piece aswell?
@@arkalanin No need to, this is a permanent bond between the metal piece and the windshield. You might, but the glue only goes between the metal piece and glass. You need to be able to slide the mirror off in the future.

Should have said its not advisable to do this. Windshield is compromised
How so ?
Did you put the epoxy on the metal piece as well and applied it to the glass?

I haven't had any issues what so ever, seems like a permanent fix

@@desilassi8547 This will work regardless

I used the J-B Weld epoxy.... is yours still holding
Yeah, it's still holding, JB weld is good too
@YvonSmart so did you put 1 layer of the epoxy to cover up the glass dent and then after that dried, you then glued the mirror button

Can you just leave the glass on the tab and glue it onto the windshield?
yes, it's possible. It might end up crooked and not flush with the glass
Did u glue it with the glass on the metal button? How did it go?
What if you take it to a mechanic?
Would be a good idea but most mechanics would suggest a windshield replacement
@@YvonSmart how much does it cost
Depending on the vehicle, a windshield replacement can run you over $300. I'd rather glue it back myself or by the mechanic if possible
