    Videos like this just solidify the fact that Crown Brass truly is heaven's horn line.

    I’m 66 (yes, a grandma) and I miss marching band so much; 3 years high school, 4 years college. The most fun years of my life. Community band I play in these days just isn’t the same. Enjoy your time on the field. I know it’s hard work but you’ll look back years later and realize just how great it was, especially playing with other high caliber musicians. Thanks for posting this video; brought back wonderful memories❤️

      Thank you for your wonderful words of wisdom! My days of marching concluded in 2018. Since then I've had the pleasure of instructing the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band and the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. Nothing will take me away from this activity!

      @@tigerash555 I live in Huntsville, AL, now, and almost went to University of Alabama back in 1973 but they didn’t offer the degree I wanted. I ended up going to Troy University and played with The Sound of the South, under Dr John Long. At an alumni band performance in 2001, a fellow bandsman, also a high school band director, stated “the last year of your college life is the best you’ll ever be as a musician (unless you go professional or military) and the most fun you’ll ever have.” So true. Thanks for responding. I still get chills listening to great marching bands like Crown. Thanks too for the virtual view of this particular video. Good job. Congrats on being with The Crimson Tide!!!

    I've never seen an angle like this, being slightly to the side, and I love it. It allows for easier viewing of the valvage, and is just a fresh change of pace from other headcams.

    The mello part for this show is insane! So many neat little runs in the part that you miss in the scope of the full show if you aren't cued into it. As a trumpet player, I have mad respect for the mello parts. I love those hits! Good stuff man! Great playing! I simply love every aspect of this show!!!

    Yep, this was my view for 3 years in marching band from 2005-2007 on mellophone. Except I was never really able to march and play at the same time. One of our instructors was on staff for Crown at the time (his name was Nick I think) and he was trying to recruit me to audition for them because I was one of the better marchers...but he apparently had no idea I never really played while marching. When I graduated high shool, I was going to audition for some corp on baritone because I thought it would be easier to perform with that because the mouthpiece is larger and my lips are bigger but my dad got all angry when he found out it would cost money for me to do it if I made it and that was the end of my thought to attempt to join a corp. This was 2008. To this day many years later I still don't understand how people are able to move and march and dance while playing their instrument and play at a high level as if they were sitting . It AMAZES someone like me.

    • @tigerash555
      @tigerash555  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for sharing your story! One of the things that attracted me to drum corps in the first place was how impossible it seemed to me at the time. To this day one of the greatest lessons it taught me was to have courage in the face of impossible odds. Just because something seems impossible today doesn't mean that you can't take steps down the path towards that goal. A few days go by. Years even. You take a few steps... and all of a sudden you're looking back asking yourself how you got here as you stare down your next "impossible" task.

      @@tigerash555 This is a great lesson. I'm actually looking to getting into some business endeavors but with hesitation not being sure if it will be a waste of time if I try but it looks like step by step is the way to go.

    Awesome playing! I've watched the vid 20 times over and I'm glad you posted it. I'm a sophomore in highschool and play the mellophone, I plan on auditioning for crown after my Junior season ends, i want to buy the crown mouthpiece but i don't think it would be appropriate to use it if I'm not marching with them, so for that reason I want to buy the Bach 6 instead. I was told they are the same model but I have heard the Bach 6 doesn't fit on newer mellophones, we use the Yamaha flugelhorn mouthpieces that come with them and I'm unsure if the Bach 6 would fit on my Mello. A response would be greatly appreciated so if you manage to get the time for it that would be awesome. Also if u have any tips for preparing for the audition camps or the camps themself that would be great

      @Brandonaguillon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cody Napier it's actually a very common mello lick. It doesn't have to be this notes but usually it's some sort of scale up to a high b and it's like teasing a high c but you stay on the high b. Many corps write it in for lead mello

    Do you have any tips for getting better tone quality and range? Also can you tell me what exercises you use?

    • @TheManyNations
      @TheManyNations 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There aren't really any tips for that sort of thing except for practice. Start at lower notes and work to produce good tone on each one, working up your range. As you become more comfortable with higher notes (IE: You gain the ability to play them with good tone) you should start trying to work your way up higher. You'll probably find that the new notes you can hit will have bad tone. Rinse and repeat.
      I try to practice my mello at least 90 minutes a day.
      Use long tones and slurs, especially to practice your upper register.
