Wow this is crazy, I happened upon your content because I saw your flugel audition for crown 2015. But then I stumbled on this and my jaw dropped, I’m a freshman at WCU studying trumpet under Dr. Ulrich. I’m in the trumpet studio as well as the wind ensemble with Dr. Underwood. Anyways, just thought it was cool to see someone who marched some of my favorite years of crown also studied under Dr. Ulrich. Great rendition of Holst’s Second
@@jaredjoyce8769 Late to the party but yes music is interpretive but most people interpret the song of the blacksmith to be faster than “ideal”. It’s the song of the blacksmith. You’re hauling iron around. It shouldn’t necessarily feel light and quick. I’m not saying that these musicians were wrong in their decisions but a slower and heavier interpretation would have been nicer.
Being a Holst fanatic I really thought this wouldn't work with just five instruments but we'll done you really made it work..
i love brass quintets like this. My only regret is not doing more of this in HS. Great job guys!
only 5 players? wow this is absolutely fantastic.

@@Tucker.Showkeir i do and im no were near as good i want to be good at music but i must being missing something
It’s good and all up until the solo. It would have sounded better on euphonium :/
Heck ya it would
Idea: replace the horn with a euphonium and then give it a solo. Easy. Thousand times better. And also maybe change a trumpet to a cornet.
Exactly my thought! Of course, I am biased as I play Euph. :)
The March and Song Without Words were perfect. However, The Blacksmith was fast and the Final was too slow.
Music is about expression, expression is fluid and malleable, just like the tempos of the pieces they chose. There is not a correct tempo.
I mean the Written tempo is usually a good place to start……. To you know,, find the correct tempo.
