    Wow this is crazy, I happened upon your content because I saw your flugel audition for crown 2015. But then I stumbled on this and my jaw dropped, I’m a freshman at WCU studying trumpet under Dr. Ulrich. I’m in the trumpet studio as well as the wind ensemble with Dr. Underwood. Anyways, just thought it was cool to see someone who marched some of my favorite years of crown also studied under Dr. Ulrich. Great rendition of Holst’s Second

      @@tigerash555 I live in Huntsville, AL, now, and almost went to University of Alabama back in 1973 but they didn’t offer the degree I wanted. I ended up going to Troy University and played with The Sound of the South, under Dr John Long. At an alumni band performance in 2001, a fellow bandsman, also a high school band director, stated “the last year of your college life is the best you’ll ever be as a musician (unless you go professional or military) and the most fun you’ll ever have.” So true. Thanks for responding. I still get chills listening to great marching bands like Crown. Thanks too for the virtual view of this particular video. Good job. Congrats on being with The Crimson Tide!!!

    Yep, this was my view for 3 years in marching band from 2005-2007 on mellophone. Except I was never really able to march and play at the same time. One of our instructors was on staff for Crown at the time (his name was Nick I think) and he was trying to recruit me to audition for them because I was one of the better marchers...but he apparently had no idea I never really played while marching. When I graduated high shool, I was going to audition for some corp on baritone because I thought it would be easier to perform with that because the mouthpiece is larger and my lips are bigger but my dad got all angry when he found out it would cost money for me to do it if I made it and that was the end of my thought to attempt to join a corp. This was 2008. To this day many years later I still don't understand how people are able to move and march and dance while playing their instrument and play at a high level as if they were sitting . It AMAZES someone like me.

    • @tigerash555
      @tigerash555 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing your story! One of the things that attracted me to drum corps in the first place was how impossible it seemed to me at the time. To this day one of the greatest lessons it taught me was to have courage in the face of impossible odds. Just because something seems impossible today doesn't mean that you can't take steps down the path towards that goal. A few days go by. Years even. You take a few steps... and all of a sudden you're looking back asking yourself how you got here as you stare down your next "impossible" task.
